what's in my… DVR?

I’m starting a new little series called “What’s In My…?” My friends Kate and Slynnro have done this, too, and I wanted to join in. I’ll try to always do them on Wednesdays, but y’all know I’m not consistent when it comes to any blogging series that I start. I’ll be covering what’s in my makeup bag, toiletry bag, handbag, junk drawer, and anything else I can think of!

I’ve had a few people ask what shows I’m watching this season, so this week I’m kicking off the series with What’s In My DVR?

I have devoted countless blog posts to my TV addiction, so you better believe that the past couple of weeks of season premieres have been absolute heaven for me. I programmed my DVR a couple of weeks ago for all the new fall shows and I’ll be really upset if it doesn’t record something. I love TV.

I had to say goodbye to LOST last year and that was heartbreaking, so I am going to try out a lot of this season’s new dramas to try to find something to help fill the LOST void.

Monday

Dancing With The Stars (ABC) 8:00

The Event (NBC) 9:00

Chase (NBC) 10:00

Notes: I swore I wouldn’t watch DWTS this season, but I just know I won’t be able to avoid it. So I’m recording it and planning to just fast-forward through it every week. I’m excited about The Event and Chase. Hopefully I can hang on and commit to watching a new show.

Tuesday

Glee (FOX) 8:00

Biggest Loser (NBC) 8:00

Running Wilde (FOX) 9:30

Parenthood (NBC) 10:00

Notes: Glee is my favorite show on television, I’ve been a huge Biggest Loser fan since it first aired, and I love Keri Russell and want to support her, so I’m hoping I like her new show, Running Wilde. I’m still watching DVDs of season 1 of Parenthood, but I’m DVRing season 2 so I can catch up.

Wednesday

Modern Family (ABC) 9:00

Notes: I’ll also probably use Wednesday nights to watch shows on my DVR.

Thursday

My Generation (ABC) 8:00

Grey’s Anatomy (ABC) 9:00

Project Runway (Lifetime) 9:00

The Apprentice (NBC) 10:00

Notes: My Generation is based on the class of 2000 (the year I finished high school) and even though I haven’t loved Grey’s Anatomy in a couple of seasons, I’m just so invested that I can’t stop watching. TC and I are both really excited that the original Apprentice is back on!

Friday

Dateline (NBC) 9:00

Outlaw (NBC) 10:00

Blue Bloods (CBS) 10:00

Notes: I love Dateline, I love Bridget Moynahan, and I love Jimmy Smits.

Sunday

Mad Men (AMC) 10:00

I’m not great with new shows. I loved Desperate Housewives in the first season and then hated the second so I stopped watching. I watched two episodes of Private Practice before I had to stop because I just couldn’t get into it. Then there’s the horrible situation where I absolutely love a new show and it gets canceled before season one ever ends. So we’ll see how I do with picking up the new shows this season. But something has got to fill the void that LOST left behind.

What’s in your DVR?

i love to organize!

Some days I feel like I’m barely keeping everything going and I’m constantly juggling fifteen different projects, people, activities, etc. This is why it’s so important for me to stay organized. If I take ten seconds to put something back where it belongs, I save thirty minutes later by not having to search for it.

I’ve gotten a few emails on how I keep things organized, so I thought I’d share it all with you. If you have tips for me on how to save time and stay even more organized, please let me know! I’m not an expert and I find that as life changes we have to change our organizational ways. I’m a huge fan of Excel spreadsheets for budgeting and creating timelines for projects. But what do we do with all the stuff around here?

Handbags

I have about three handbags that I rotate throughout the year. Switching them out is a breeze because I have small pouches in them that hold all of my stuff. Nothing, other than my wallet and cell phone, float freely in my handbag.

I have this cute set of Toss Designs pouches that fit perfectly in my handbags. Each pouch holds something different: 1. lipstick and powder, 2. feminine products, 3. writing utensils.

I just transfer these cute bags to the new purse when it’s time to switch. Easy peasy!

Calendar

I use the MomAgenda Mini Daily and the MomAgenda wall calendar to keep our schedules going. The mini daily goes everywhere with me and the wall calendar hangs on the bulletin board in our office/playroom. My daily to-do list goes in the mini daily, but our family activities and days that we’ll need a sitter for Hudson go on the family calendar.

It has been really helpful for us to keep track of everyone’s activities and to juggle three people’s schedules.

Mail

We have a mail sorter that sits on our kitchen counter. I go through the mail every day and throw away what we don’t need and keep the things we do need. If it’s an invitation, I respond to it immediately and put the date on our calendar if we can attend. If it’s a bill, I put it in the mail sorter and we usually pay the bills over the weekend. In the last year, we have really taken care of our mail pile up issue. I cannot stand stacks of paper. I like to deal with them immediately and get rid of them.

We also have a filing cabinet (it’s actually attractive) that holds all of important stuff that we can’t trash. We try to go through that once a year and purge the things that we know we don’t need to hang on to anymore.

Toys

Our playroom cubbies and shelves are finally finished and we’re just in the process of arranging them. But I will show you a sneak peek. It is so great to have vertical storage rather than having so many toys scattered on the floor. I’m still in the process of choosing containers for the cubbies based on our needs. Containers can be expensive, so I want to make sure we know exactly how we want things to be organized before we make any purchases. I’m also planning to put a TV in that large opening in the center, but we’re just looking for the right TV and the right price!

The categories that I have for containers are 1) small plastic toys, 2) puzzles, 3) small stuffed toys, 4) bouncy balls and roll-around balls. You can probably see that Hudson has tons of books and those are honestly his most favorite toys.

His big toys that won’t fit in the cubbies are just hanging out on the floor of the playroom, but it’s nice to get some of our floor space back.

How do you keep your house organized?

gyros, baklava, and a little dancing machine named Hudson

We went to the Greek Festival with some of our friends from Sunday school on Friday night. It was great to catch up with them. Life has been so busy lately and the summer always leaves people with different schedules so it’s hard to get together. We had some great Greek food and then Hudson was ready to “get down” out of his stroller.

I couldn’t really let him walk around the festival because he’s kind of a wild man. But I had seen a big dance floor under a tent when we arrived and lots of kids were playing under there. So I decided to take Hudson back to the tent to see if he’d just run around under there.

He did more than run around! The boy was feeling the rhythm. As soon as he heard the music, he couldn’t contain himself. My sweet friends were able to get a little bit of video for us and I’m so happy they did!

Hudson did this dancing bit for at least half an hour. He just wouldn’t stop. His little cheeks were so red and he was having the time of his life. The funniest part was that he had his Baby Einstein DVD case (his newest security blanket) and wouldn’t put it down the whole time he was dancing!

It was a great weekend in college football. We had lots of fun at the game and I got to see a fun blog friend! This world is so small! Ashley was sitting right behind me at the game and came over to say hello.

The Gamecocks had some scary moments, but we won and we’re even more excited to go play Auburn next weekend. TC has never been to Auburn and it’s one of my favorite away games, so I can’t wait! And how about the Auburn/Clemson game? We got home from our game just in time to see the end  and TC and I had to really control ourselves to stop from screaming and jumping around the house. We were so excited!

I hope y’all had a great weekend. We had a hard time getting out of bed this morning, but Hudson is at school (hopefully having a great time) and I’m folding mountains of laundry.
