what's in my… DVR?

I’m starting a new little series called “What’s In My…?” My friends Kate and Slynnro have done this, too, and I wanted to join in. I’ll try to always do them on Wednesdays, but y’all know I’m not consistent when it comes to any blogging series that I start. I’ll be covering what’s in my makeup bag, toiletry bag, handbag, junk drawer, and anything else I can think of!

I’ve had a few people ask what shows I’m watching this season, so this week I’m kicking off the series with What’s In My DVR?

I have devoted countless blog posts to my TV addiction, so you better believe that the past couple of weeks of season premieres have been absolute heaven for me. I programmed my DVR a couple of weeks ago for all the new fall shows and I’ll be really upset if it doesn’t record something. I love TV.

I had to say goodbye to LOST last year and that was heartbreaking, so I am going to try out a lot of this season’s new dramas to try to find something to help fill the LOST void.

Monday

Dancing With The Stars (ABC) 8:00

The Event (NBC) 9:00

Chase (NBC) 10:00

Notes: I swore I wouldn’t watch DWTS this season, but I just know I won’t be able to avoid it. So I’m recording it and planning to just fast-forward through it every week. I’m excited about The Event and Chase. Hopefully I can hang on and commit to watching a new show.

Tuesday

Glee (FOX) 8:00

Biggest Loser (NBC) 8:00

Running Wilde (FOX) 9:30

Parenthood (NBC) 10:00

Notes: Glee is my favorite show on television, I’ve been a huge Biggest Loser fan since it first aired, and I love Keri Russell and want to support her, so I’m hoping I like her new show, Running Wilde. I’m still watching DVDs of season 1 of Parenthood, but I’m DVRing season 2 so I can catch up.

Wednesday

Modern Family (ABC) 9:00

Notes: I’ll also probably use Wednesday nights to watch shows on my DVR.

Thursday

My Generation (ABC) 8:00

Grey’s Anatomy (ABC) 9:00

Project Runway (Lifetime) 9:00

The Apprentice (NBC) 10:00

Notes: My Generation is based on the class of 2000 (the year I finished high school) and even though I haven’t loved Grey’s Anatomy in a couple of seasons, I’m just so invested that I can’t stop watching. TC and I are both really excited that the original Apprentice is back on!

Friday

Dateline (NBC) 9:00

Outlaw (NBC) 10:00

Blue Bloods (CBS) 10:00

Notes: I love Dateline, I love Bridget Moynahan, and I love Jimmy Smits.

Sunday

Mad Men (AMC) 10:00

I’m not great with new shows. I loved Desperate Housewives in the first season and then hated the second so I stopped watching. I watched two episodes of Private Practice before I had to stop because I just couldn’t get into it. Then there’s the horrible situation where I absolutely love a new show and it gets canceled before season one ever ends. So we’ll see how I do with picking up the new shows this season. But something has got to fill the void that LOST left behind.

What’s in your DVR?

I promise I have a life, but I DVR so much! DWTS, 90210, Biggest Loser, Grey’s, The Office, Private Practice, Modern Family, Boardwalk Empire. The sad thing is that I actually WATCH these shows while they are on, but I still DVR!

  2. says

I hadn’t heard of “My Generation” before, I’m the class of 2000 also (Smoke-Free Class of 2000!) might have to check that out. I’m always so stingy about adding new shows because I feel like I watch enough tv as it is already. I’m liking the new season of The Apprentice though, interesting twist on things. I’m also with you with Dateline, gotta record that every week. Law & Order SVU is always on my must DVR list.

glee is my favorite show on television as well!! the episode yesterday just made me completely giddy. As a music minor in college, I feel like I just get to have fun for an hour straight while I watch that show. I sing along, dance along, booty dance with the hubby…hee hee…it’s just FUN!

have you thought about adding house? That’s a good one! : )

  4. Karah says

Have you eve watched Castle? It’s a great show. It’s one of my favs. We have also been watching parenthood and I love it. Its so funny plus I love Lauren Graham and miss Gilmore Girls. I don’t think i will be watching DWTS this year because I watch 90210 and GG on Mondays.

  5. says

    None of the above?

I only watch Top Chef and the Real Housewives shows, and I usually only catch those on re-runs. We’re actually considering getting rid of cable altogether, especially since most of the shows I like can be found on bravotv.com or you tube.

If it wasn’t for sports, we wouldn’t really need a TV at all.

    Yeah, we’re weird. I know.

  6. says

My DVR cache looks very familiar to yours…I swore I was going to stop watching The Biggest Loser. It’s TWO hours! But I just can’t. I love Parenthood and Modern Family; they are probably my favorite and yes, I’m very invested in Grey’s. I hadn’t thought about DVR’ing Dateline. I watch it if I can, but I could always catch up over the weekend or on a slow night. Good idea!

  7. says

We also watched The Event and Chase on Monday night – hope they turn out to be good! πŸ™‚ Monday is our BIG night of TV – Chuck (LOVE it!), How I Met Your Mother (too funny), and Castle!

I only caught a few episodes of Glee last year, but I’m hoping to catch up and get on board with this season! πŸ™‚ I’ve heard great things about Parenthood and Modern Family, too! We also watch Dexter on Showtime – it’s so twisted, but so good!

We get spoiled with DVR b/c now we can’t stand to watch a show when we can’t fast-forward through the commercials, haha!

What a fun post and reason # 98973932479832749823 why I need a DVR. Can’t wait to get started on Glee!!!! πŸ™‚

I need to watch Parenthood because I love actress Lauren Graham. Fun fact and you might already know, but did you know she’s dating in real life the one who plays her brother on the show? And I need to watch Modern Family because I have Wednesday off from school!

  9. says

Darn, I forgot the new Keri Russel show was on last night! I will have to try and watch it next week or maybe I can find it online somewhere!
I love Parenthood. It is so funny!
And I hadn’t heard about The Generation. I was class of 1999, so it might be fun.

  10. says

Since you loved Lost, you may be interested in JJ Abrams’ new show, Undercovers. I just heard about it today, and the trailer makes me want to give it a try. I loved Alias, so I’m curious to see how JJ Abrams can do another spy show and make it work.

  11. says

This is perfect. I can never keep up with what shows are on which nights and what channel. I (gasp) don’t have a DVR. I’m totally printing your schedule for reference on what to watch at night. I’m not very good with watching something every week because I don’t always have time, but it’s nice to know what shows to plan around when I can.

  12. says

I was so excited for the season premiere of Glee last night! I also love the shows Castle, Modern Family, and Community. And I’m totally in the same boat as you with Grey’s Anatomy. I used to love it (and I live about 1 1/2 hours away from Seattle so that made me love it more), and even though it has been waning over the past few seasons, I can’t seem to stop watching it!

  13. says

I only DVR DWTS i will never watch it live so i can hurry up and fast forward thru the slow parts but, I do hope Jennifer Gray wins! I love watching teen mom (shame on me i know but, i am sucked into it!) I have intervention, hoarders, the office, modern family, csi, csi miami, dateline, the real housewives, top chef, flipping out, tori and dean, glee, army wives and some how I love pawn stars on the history channel starting watching once and i couldnt stop… I didn’t relize how big of a dork I was until I started listing πŸ™‚

And i Know this is sooo off the subject but i was flipping thru and saw Kate plus 8 last night on tlc and those kids are still in highchairs. My oldest daughter Roxy was born one day after them and she hasnt been in a high chair in foever!!!! It def. bothered me there 6 years old!

  14. says

I heard that LOST fans should like The Event, so hopefully that’ll help fill the void for you! I recorded it but I haven’t seen it yet. I’m just now watching LOST via Netflix. I was SO glad that they brought back the original Apprentice! I was happy with it last week, although that District Attorney, can’t remember her name, really rubbed me the wrong way. I hope she goes soon! I have a serious tv addiction, so much so that we don’t have room in our dvr to record all of the shows I want in one night, and Icannot wait til the weekend to watch becasue Monday and Tuesday are usually deleted! :O

  15. says

Modern Family and Glee is all I have time for but I LOVE them! We also DVR lots of football games on the weekend so that we can start them about 30 mins late and fast forward throught the commercials.

  16. says

Many of these are also on my DVR! I am OBSESSED with Parenthood, probably my favorite! I think you should add Cougar Town to your Wednesday night list, it’s HILARIOUS {my husband might even like it more than me}. I think I’m adding My Generation now, I hadn’t heard of it till now and your little blurb sold me!

  17. says

I’m so with you on Grey’s – I can’t stop now. Although you should really give Private Practice another shot – it’s gotten so much better since the first season!

P.S. I’m a recent follower and I absolutely love your blog. Even when you think you have nothing to write about, I still find you interesting! Which either means I have no life or yours is fabulous. Let’s go with the latter. πŸ™‚

  18. says

absolutely loved running wilde last night so funny and raising hope. i’m with you on the apprentice love that’s it’s back to how it started…so much better.

  19. carrie says

Well I love Big Brother, but its over now. I also watch Survivor,Pawn Stars, the Biggest Loser, LA Ink, The Apprentice, Dateline. OMG, I watch a lot of tv!! I can’t help it I love tv! πŸ™‚

  20. says

Thanks for reminding me about My Generation. That’s also the year I graduated high school and I had seen previews for it and thought it looked interesting, but I completely forgot about it when it came time to set up the DVR!

  21. says

    OH, here we go!:

Sunday: Undercover Boss and *gasp* CSI: Miami.. can’t believe I just admitted that in public.

Monday: How I Met Your Mother, Rules of Engagement, The Event, and Hawaii Five-O

    Tuesday: Glee and Biggest Loser

Wednesday: Criminal Minds… I don’t know what else is on on Wednesdays because I work late.

Thursday: My Generation, Big Bang Theory, Grey’s Anatomy, and Private Practice

Friday: Dateline and Blue Bloods.. and maybe CSI: New York.

I watch way too much TV too. We also have Dexter on Netflix. So I never DVR that – but I do watch it.

  22. says

I so just did this on my blog–I love TV just as much! I think we’re watching a lot of the same shows and I’m glad you decided on watching DWTS after all. How could you stand not seeing Bristol Palin and The Hoff each week?!

  23. says

Ohmygosh – did you watch What about Bryan? Or Six Degrees back in 06 with Bridget Moynahan? Or Men in Trees? All short-lived TV shows that I loved.

  24. Emily says

    GLEE!!!!!

    Blue Bloods
    Housewives
    DWTS….said I wasn’t going to watch it either….
The Middle is hilarious! Modern Family!
    Hooray for Fall!!!

  25. says

Sunday: Desperate Housewives and Brothers & Sisters (love this show!)
    Monday: Castle
Tuesday: Glee, BL, Parenthood, Good Wife
Wednesday: Modern Family and Top Chef: Just Desserts
    Thursday: Grey’s and Private Practice

Trying the new Keri Russell show and am curious about My Generation.

  26. says

You know what I loved most about your post (besides Glee being your favorite too) is that I finally found someone else who has shows they watch on every day of the week! I thought I was alone in my love of TV but I feel happy to know I’m not alone anymore!

  27. says

Looks like a nice line-up! I’ve been catching random re-runs of Parenthood here and there. Sometimes it’s comes on on Saturday nights when I’m babysitting. Anyway…..I LOVE it and I hope it survives and sticks around for another season!! So hilarious!

  28. says

I hate when I love a new show and it gets canceled!! I am sad, old, and living in the past because I have no recording device. So the only shows I sit and watch when they are on are Modern Family and Vampire Diaries!

  29. says

We have very similar TV tastes! I hadn’t heard about Running Wilde – thanks for putting it on my radar, hate that I missed the premier. Blue Bloods looks good – I’ll add that to my roster.

I think I watch as much TV if not more than you do – I’m comforted that there are other TV freaks like me out there.

  30. says

We have some overlap in our lists – Glee, Modern Family (tonight – yay!), Chase (liked it so far), The Event (not sure I want to commit to something compared to Lost)

I also love the following: Cougartown, Big Bang Theory (why couldn’t it have stayed on Monday?!?), 30 Rock, The Good Wife…there is more, but I think that is enough to show you that yes, I am a tv addict πŸ™‚

love that the new shows are finally back!!!!

  31. Sonya says

I only have 2 must-watch shows…Grey’s Anatomy and Brothers & Sisters, and My Boys when it airs! I hate Private Practice because of the very first episode they had that was combined with Grey’s. It just made me mad! I try to catch the Law & Orders, but I tend to forget! I have a hard time choosing to watch new shoes, because the ones I like I always end up being canceled! I usually wait a season and if it’s still around I might try it out.

  32. says

I just did a post on my show line-up too,….and my new-found adoration of GLEE!

I can sympathize with you about having new shows end after the first season….I remember religiously watching “Studio 60” and “Cashmere Mafia”…both wonderful shows, and they abruptly stopped after the 1st season. I get so disappointed when that happens!

  33. anonymous says

Wow! With all that TV and all of your projects, you really should do a post on how you get it all done in a day! Incredible.

  34. says

So, I haven’t watched Grey’s in several years, which makes me sad because it was like my FAVORITE, but, I just can’t get into it anymore.

My shows are Chuck, Sons of Anarchy, Teen Mom (trainwreck that I cannot turn away from!), Modern Family, Community and Bones. But, I don’t have DVR or TiVo–how sad is that?!?

  35. Mary Beth says

    Monday:
    Gossip Girl
    90210

    Tuesday:
    NCIS & NCIS LA
    One Tree Hill

    Wednesday:
    Criminal Minds
    Cougar Town

Thursday (way too much tv, and I hardly ever get caught up):
    Bones
    Fringe
    Grey’s Anatomy
    Private Practice
    Vampire Diaries

    Friday:
    Blue Bloods
    Medium

  36. says

I am obsessed! I DVR so many shows and sometimes I have like 2 or 3 episodes before the hubs and I have time to sit down and watch them. Some of my favorites are: Gossip Girl, 90210, Desperate Housewives, Grey’s, ALL of the RH except DC, House, Top Chef, RZ, and I’m sure I’m forgetting some! Obsessive much?? I think so!

  37. says

I actually did a similar post this week. I pink puffy heart tv. It’s a sad obsession. Shows I love are: Modern Family, The Big Bang Theory, The Office, Community, The Good Wife and HIMYM and Tori and Dean when they are on.

  38. says

I LOVE Keri Russell, too, and am also excited for Running Wilde! I haven’t been able to watch it yet, but will hopefully sometime this year πŸ™‚ I am a TV fanatic, too, and always end up DVRing way too much TV and then can never watch it. I am still working on last year’s final season of LOST – ridiculous, right?!? We had to move back in June and I lost almost the entire season of Parenthood and I’m so upset. I haven’t started watching the new season yet, not until I can get some idea of what happened in the first. I am currently reading recaps on the episodes, as I figure it’ll save precious time that I don’t have to watch the DVDs.

  39. Charla Liedahl says

I love Keri Russell and I ADORE WIll Arnett (RIP, my beloved Arrested Development!) but I thought Running Wilde was horrible. Anyone else sorely disappointed?

  40. Laura says

Ah, I’m so jealous of all your TV! I live Down Under, and everything is delayed majorly. Some of the things you mention we don’t get yet (brand news ones like Running Wilde), and other things are on cable (which I don’t have).

However, I recently made time for:
    1) The Bachelor/ette (sometimes I lose interest depending on who it is, but I made it through the season with Ali…we don’t get Bachelor Pad or any of those spinoffs)
    2) Gossip Girl (trashily wonderful but only on season 3 here)
    3) Masterchef (like a worse version of TopChef, but not using chefs, just using people who are not professional cooks…oh how I miss TopChef and Project Runway, so sad)
    4) Life (the BBC documentary series).

Sometimes I watch How I Met Your Mother or the Amazing Race, but it sort of depends on when they are on. I don’t always DVR them. I watch the news too but I don’t DVR it.

I have Mad Men on DVD but I haven’t started yet. Of course I’m way behind and I’d have to start from square one.

I really don’t feel like I watch that much TV because I’m way behind on my DVR’ing and I have loads to catch up on. πŸ™‚ Fun post, thanks for sharing!!!

  41. Jennifer says

    Ok…let’s see:

    Sunday: Desperate Housewives
    Monday: Gossip Girl and House
    Tuesday: Biggest Loser
Wednesday: Top Chef: Just Deserts, Law & Order: SVU
Thursday: 30 Rock, The Office, Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice, Project Runway
Fridays: If it looks good, i’ll record 20/20 or Dateline
