Now that my kids are old enough, they love to help me cook. And I love to cook, but I don’t love to spend a lot of time in the kitchen. I prefer to cook a great, family favorite meal, clean up quickly, and move on to family time and meal time. One of my favorite, quick cobbler recipes is super fast, super easy, and super kid-friendly. But! It can be really messy!
This is my Triple Berry Cobbler recipe.
Ingredients
1 12 oz package frozen blueberries (or fresh blueberries)
1 12 oz package frozen raspberries (or fresh raspberries)– I don’t care for raspberries, so I use strawberries instead
1 12 oz package frozen blackberries (or fresh blackberries)
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup all purpose flour
1/4 cup butter, melted
1 t vanilla extract
1 package refrigerated pie crust (with 2 crusts in the package)– or make it from scratch if you can or have the time
1 large egg, beaten
1 T sugar
Instructions
Stir together first 7 ingredient in large bowl until just combined
Spoon into greased 13 x 9 inch baking dish

Roll 1 piecrust to fit baking dish, place on top of berry mixture
Cut remaining piecrust into 1/2 inch strips and arrange strips in lattice design over piecrust
Brush with egg, and sprinkle with 1 T sugar
Bake at 400 for 55-60 minutes until golden and bubbly
When I’m mixing it up, the berries seem to stain everything. And then when I bake it, the berries always seem to bubble over into the bottom of my oven. Burned berries on the bottom of the oven are not fun!
This isn’t going to stop me from baking my favorite easy cobbler recipe, but it’s not my favorite thing to do.

One time I tried my hand at one of those fruit pizzas. I made a double batch of the sugar cookie batter because one didn’t seem like it would be enough. Well I did not take into account how the dough would grow some while baking (baking is not my forte) and sure enough a ton of it started falling off the edges of my pizza stone and all into my oven. Ugh! Epic fail!
Pies always overboil on me!
My BIGGEST kitchen need right now is a new oven! We love to bake pizzas directly on the oven rack for super crispy crust, but the cheese tends to sometimes melt onto the bottom of my oven. This new cleaning feature sounds perfect!
Chicken Pie.
frozen pizza….gooey cheese always drips down 🙁
Homemade lasagna! I always put a piece of foil or a big baking sheet under so it’s not AS messy.
Lasagna, for sure! I always fill it too full, but it is so, so good! I’m going to have to try this cobbler! Yum!
My homemade chicken pot pie ALWAYS boils over!!
We love a good, moist roast chicken, or a pan full of sausage, sweet potatoes and apples… but the splatter, oh the splatter! My oven door is always fogged with splatter!
I have a baked bean recipe that includes bacon and beef and it seems to ALWAYS bubble over! I just had to do that nasty oven cleaning mode last weekend. Winning this would be awesome!
chicken pot pie! I’ve learned to just keep a pan underneath to catch the gunk! :o)
Favorite recipe that leaves my oven messy? This garlic cheesy bread- so good, but without a pan underneath (WHY didn’t I do this…blaming the kids) it’s a beast to clean up.

Pecan Pie always seems to boil over for me!
Looks delicious!
My spinach dip always runneth over. Probably because I put it in a super cute, but way too small, dish. Oh well.

Pies always boil over!
Apple Pie! Always bubbles over.
I love to make my mom’s homemade chicken pot pie, but stuff always comes out the top of the pie plate. I always put a big pizza pan on the rack underneath to catch the stuff that drips out. I hate that smell of the burning “stuff” at the bottom of the oven! If I made your cobbler (which sounds awesome!) I think I would probably put the big pizza tray underneath again!
Anything where sweet potatoes might overflow. I HATE the smell of burnt sweet potatoes.
That cobbler sounds delicious! We have blueberry bushes in our yard and I never know how to use up all the blueberries, so I’m filing this away.
Do you think it would help to place a large baking sheet under the pyrex dish to catch what bubbles out?
Thanks for the recipe!
Cherry pie is the worst for me. Actually it is the best, but the worst on my oven.
Thanks!
My chicken pot pie always makes a big mess in the oven. I really need a new oven!
I make The Pioneer Woman’s Apple pie all the time. It is requested at most family functions. It specifically says in the directions to place the pie on a cookie sheet. I only remember to this about half the time. The other half I am smelling burnt pie every time I turn my oven on for a few weeks.

That looks sooo good! Man we need a new oven! The only thing that ever goes over in mine is pizza! Everytime!
homemade chicken pot pie and my pecan pie always make the biggest mess!
Pies always make a mess 😉 but baking is so much fun anyway!!!
For sure, my lasagna does EVERY time. Do you think I have learned my lesson? NO! What a fantastic giveaway from LG
Every time we make homemade Hawaiian BBQ pizza, it always makes a big mess.
I tweeted about the giveaway. https://twitter.com/anzhie_luv/status/337678469527904256
Apple pie still coats my oven a month later. Even though I lined the bottom with tin foil, it still found a way to hit every open spot!
Chicken pot pie always boils over for me!
FULL pot Roast!! But oh, so good.
Apple pie and chicken pot pies always boiling over for me. I usually put a large cookie sheet under them to help keep thongs a bit cleaner.
It never fails that my berry or peach cobblers always overflow and drip down the sides of the baking dish, making the worst sticky messes in my oven.

Homemade pizza always leaves a messy oven!
I love roast chicken, but it always splatters grease all over my oven. It’s worth the mess though!

Apple Pie! It never fails to bubble over!
Macaroni and cheese – it always seems to bubble over! Several of my casserole-type recipes barely fit into my nicer bakeware, so I risk it for the nice-looking dish to put on the table. I prefer to cook bacon in the oven – which can also be messy!
We put our pizza straight on the oven rack, which means I have to clean more, but the crust is SO Good! 🙂
pecan pies! but i’ve learned to put another pan underneath just in case!
Not a contest entry, just a thank you! I made the berry cobbler this afternoon for a Memorial Day party at our home. The recipe was flawless and a hit with adults and kids. Thank you for sharing such a great one. I added a squeeze of lemon only because I had one cut and it gave it just a little brightness to the sweet and tart cobbler. Thanks again!!!!
With the kids helping to cook, it seems ALL my recipes leave the oven messy. But the exploding-baked-potato incident stands out in my mind, I must admit.

I like my fruit pies really full — but then they tend to boil over and make a mess.
I tend to overfill my cake pans so I can level them to get a perfect two inch layer and sometimes they run over into the oven.
Chicken pot pie
Eggplant parmesan – it always bubbles over!
When I make my pumpkin bread, even if I skimp on the ingredients, it always explodes or overflows in the oven! Stinky, stinky oven.
I dont to alot of baking, so the only thing that overflows is my Chicken pot pie.And i hate oven cleaners. I inhaled some one time without realizing how dangerous it was and my throat was raw and i had a hacking cough for a week. It was ROUGH! Needless to say i didnt clean the oven for a long time after that (and it didnt get finished the first time)

It has to be my lasagna, so good but can be messy when it boils simmers over
The recipe that leaves my oven messy is my enchiladas! I stuff the baking dishes full and use lots of cheese and sauce which, even if I cover them, tends to bubble and slosh over the edge when I pull them out 🙂

We love to make a portuguese native dish called Alcatra. It’s from Terceira, Azores. It’s like a pot roast made in a clay pot. Sometimes it over flows and get the oven all greasy. One time we made it and the clay pot cracked in half. It was a not so fun clean up, but we LOVE that stuff!

Growing up my Portuguese mother made my favorite dish from the Azores called “Alcatra” …taste like home!
Little did I know what went into it. It’s slow cooked in a clay pot. Once the the sauce comes to a boil it starts to over flow. You can imagine how hard it is to clean up pork fat! It’s very greasy. I even had the pot crack on me one time. Regardless this dish is too amazing and worth the mess! Below is the recipe if anyone would like to try it. You must have the clay pot makes a huge difference. Here’s to a new stove! 🙂
Ingredients:
5 Onions sliced
5 cloves garlic finely chopped
Pork fat (cut into small cubes)
2 cups of white wine with 1/4 cup of salt (dissolved)
9 lb beef round eye roast
5 onions
5 cloves garlic
1/4 cup salt
2 cups white wine
Pork fat small strip (1 lb)
8 Bay leaves
10 Whole cloves
Pork or lamb bone with marrow 1 large or several small enough
to cover bottom cut leaving 1 inch of meat around bone
Butter (2 sticks)
Directions:
1) Baste dish with butter
2) Add sliced onions to bottom and all around dish
3) On bottom over the onions add bone marrow. (Pork or Lamb)
4) Add chopped garlic, bay leaves, whole cloves, pork fat cubes.
5) Add a layer of the roast meat
6) Add onions again lightly
7) Repeat steps 4 and 5
8) Add onions sliced butter and pour the wine and salt mixture over it.
9) Place in oven at 400 degrees ¾ covered until boiling (around 2 Hrs)
10) Lower to 350 degrees and cook for about 4-5 Hours) and once meat is tender it’s done.
11) Serve and enjoy!
