September Goals

First things first! Thank you all SO much for your comments, calls, texts, social media comments offering your congratulations on our big news. We are so appreciative and we are so excited!

I am feeling like I’m ready to get back into the swing of things with blogging. Now that our secret is out and the boys are at school, I have a little time to myself in the morning and I can freely talk about what’s going on in our lives.

So reading was always one of my biggest goals every month. I’ve been reading three books a month since January, and love swapping book recommendations with y’all. But since I got pregnant, I cannot quiet my mind. And it’s like I get motion sickness from reading… even when I’m sitting still. (More on my pregnancy symptoms in another post.) And reading has kind of fallen to the wayside in favor of mindless television and late night episodes of Family Feud with Steve Harvey. (I wish I was kidding.)

But I love fall. And even though it’s still 100 degrees here, there is the promise of fall. The grocery stores are selling those yummy spiced cinnamon pine cones and brooms and I. Am. Ready.

september goals

Let’s get right to it. My September goals. Again, nothing super big, but all stuff that I either need to get done or want to get done.

1. Work on Brother Room

Our original plan was to move the guest room to the finished room over the garage and put the nursery in the guest room. We didn’t think we wanted the boys to share just yet. But now we’ve decided to put them together in Hudson’s current room and put the nursery in Hayes’s current room. We had just finished up getting all of Hayes’s bedding together, so now we’ll just get the same bedding for Hudson. I’m so excited!

2. Set up my DVR for Fall Television

Goodness, I can’t believe I put that in writing. But all of our favorite shows are coming back. Scandal, Homeland, The Newsroom, The Good Wife, Dancing With the Stars, and all the college football we’ll be watching. Again, I’ll be lucky if I read at all this month, but I’m going to try!

3. Read Two Books This Month

I’m cutting it back to one book for the sake of grace. Let’s see if I can jump back in the reading saddle. (I will update y’all with what I did read this summer! I crossed two books off my list.)

4. Host a Family for Supper

We’ve done this at least once a month since January and it has become my favorite goal. We have plans with friends this coming weekend.

5. Get Back Into Our Wednesday Routine

AWANA and children’s choir starts back this week at our church on Wednesday nights. Todd and I like to go early for supper, eat together as a family, take the kids to their classes and then attend our pastor’s Bible study together. And then I go to choir rehearsal. It’s one of my favorite nights every week and I’m so excited it’s starting back. I’m looking forward to having dinner with so many of our favorite families.

So those are my goals for the month. Nothing crazy to tackle. We’re back on track with meal planning. Our house is getting back in order after the low key summer. I’m excited about this season!

How about you? What’s on your agenda this month?

Baby!

We’ve all been keeping a little secret since the middle of June, and now we can finally let the cat out of the bag!

We are all so excited to share that little baby Carroll #3 will join our family in March of 2015!

The boys are absolutely thrilled, and Todd and I are just overwhelmed with gratitude. I’m 13 weeks pregnant and pumped for that magical 14 week to get here!

And I just love this sweet photo that Courtney Dox took of our family. It’s one of our last photos of Fiona, and it was taken a couple of days after we found out the great news.

So that’s the big thing that’s been going on around here this summer! I will share more very soon.

First Day of School

Today was the first day of school for Hudson and Hayes. We were one of the last schools to start in our area and we were all ready.

Last night when we got home from church, I tucked Hudson in and prayed with him about his first day of kindergarten. He told me that he might be a little bit shy and was going to miss his teacher from last year. But I promised him that he would love his new teachers and that they’d have a great year.

We laid out all the paperwork we had to take with us and set out their clothes, so we could have as smooth a morning as possible. I set my alarm for 6:30, but I was wide awake at 6:15. I think I was nervous, too!

I didn’t want him to be late and I didn’t want to rush. I made breakfast and got myself ready and then Hudson and Hayes got up and came downstairs. It was such a smooth morning.

Both boys even agreed to let me take their picture!

Hudson’s school starts an hour before Hayes’s does, so Todd and Hayes stayed at home while I took Hudson to school. He held my hand walking down the hall, and was eager to meet his teachers and check out what was going on in the classroom. I kissed him on the head and walked out. Once he saw his buddies, he was just thrilled to be there.

I ran home and got Hayes, took his picture, and then went back to school for him to start. He walked right in, used the potty (yay!), and washed his hands. And then he found his place in the room.

It’s going to be a great year for both boys, and I know they’re both going to grow and change so much this year. Hayes will gain more independence and Hudson is just going to learn so much and change so much.

Hudson even got a head start on his homework today while I put Hayes down for his nap. He’s going to love school!

I can’t believe it’s already time for us to head back to school. We are still a week away from Hudson’s first day of Kindergarten and Hayes’s first day of preschool. We’re spending this week at the beach with our family and soaking up the last few days of our long summer.

I’ll admit that I’m ready for school and routine and for the boys to be back with their friends every day. I’m ready for cooler fall temperatures to roll in and for football games and even, wait for it… homework! I can’t believe I’m saying that!

But I’m seriously looking forward to fall wardrobes. For me, it’s the boots and the jackets and chunky sweaters. And I love back to school shopping for my boys.

Every year, I look to Mini Boden for favorites for my boys. I love their tees, their jackets, and their pants. In the fall, the cord baggies are some of my favorites and the brushed tartan cargos are my absolute favorite of the pants for boys. They’re so comfy and they’re warm, and they’re also just so cute!

Hayes is wearing the vehicle t-shirt and I just love Hayes in red. I love that the shirt is amazing quality and the applique is soft, comfortable, and holds up after countless washes. Hayes is heading off to the 3s class at his preschool, and it’s going to be a big year for him. There will be a lot more structure, more expectations, and more opportunities for him to thrive and grow.

Hudson is starting kindergarten in a week, and he is so excited! He has grown up so much in the last year, and I am so excited for this next phase of his life. He loves to learn and loves to be around his friends. Hudson is wearing the same vehicle t-shirt featuring the pirate ship.

I love it when my boys’ outfits coordinate, but don’t necessarily match. And I love that I can pass all of Hudson’s clothes down to Hayes to wear later.

The suede dessert boots are perfect for school, but also great for church or dressier occasions. And they boys love wearing them!
