home feels like the hotel

Todd and I got married in Greenville, SC and had our reception at the Westin Poinsett Hotel. We stayed at the hotel for about 4 nights and stay there every time we visit Greenville. I discovered the most wonderful thing the last time we were there. All of the Starwood properties (Sheraton, W, Westin, etc.) have signature scents. The Westin signature scent is White Tea and it is so yummy! It smells so fresh and crisp and I have been trying to figure out how to get my house to smell just like that.

You can buy the White Tea diffuser oil and a special 12 month Scent Wave program. The latter is what they use in the hotels to blow the scent throughout the lobby and into the hallways.

You can enroll in a 12 month program for $39.99. Scent Wave will send you a new cardtridge every 30 days! I want two of them– one for upstairs and one for downstairs. It’s genius and I’m so glad that anyone can purchase these!

tired!

I stayed up until 1:30 this morning watching the individual all around competition in women’s gymnastics. It was pretty exciting. I don’t know a ton about gymnastics, but I know that something fishy was going on with the scoring.

Anyway… we took gold and silver and I got really emotional watching Nastia Liukin at the medal ceremony and watching Shawn Johnson give praise to her teammate.

We’re celebrating my mother-in-law’s birthday tonight. I’m going home at noon to bake a cake. I don’t have big plans for the weekend, but there are a lot of projects I want to try to get done around the house. I still haven’t watched Project Runway from this week and I want to work on hanging up some of our wedding pictures that we recently got framed. I’m definitely going to be sleeping in. The Olympics have worn me out. I just can’t stop watching and bed time has gone out the window this week!

I’m excited to see who my partner is for the Preppy Fall Swap. Head on over there to sign up if you haven’t yet. Today is the deadline! Have a great weekend!

"how's married life?"

I know there are lots of newlyweds out there that may pop in to read my posts. Am I the only one that is seriously annoyed by the question, “How’s married life?”

Maybe it just annoys me because everyone and their brother asks that when they see us. It’s the same. We’re still together, we’re still happy, we love it. That’s why we decided to get married. Come up with something else to say when you see us, please.

i've got a fever…

…and the only prescription is more Olympics!

I’ve always loved the Olympics. The John Williams theme music, the Whitney Houston “One Moment in Time,” Celine Dion’s “The Power of the Dream,” the U-S-A chanting, and pretty much everything about it. I love that there is ’round the clock coverage and in the age of DVR and Tivo it is so much easier to keep up with what is going on.

Todd admitted that he’s never been a fan of the Olympics because he doesn’t care about any of the sports. Translation: they don’t play American Football at the Olympics.

When I was 2 years old, Mary Lou Retton came to LSU and we went to watch her. I was amazed and my Olympic love took over. I would put on my little white Nikes with the blue swoosh with my navy gym shorts and pigtails and run into the room and clumsily do a forward roll. My mom would yell, “Yay, Mary Lou!”

I can remember cheering for Kim Zmeskal at the 1992 games in Barcelona when Shannon Miller was getting all of the glory.

I can remember cheering with Bela Karoli, “You can do it!” to Kerri Strug when she had to complete the second vault after seriously injuring her ankle in the first vault. Then the team won gold and were quickly named, “The Magnificent Seven.”

I’ve been glued to the TV since Friday night’s opening ceremonies (which were incredible) and I’ve been particularly interested in swimming, synchronized diving, women’s beach volleyball, and of course, men’s and women’s gymnastics. Our men pulled out a Bronze medal last night and I’m hoping our women can capture the gold tonight. And I know I’m not the only one who thinks that those Chinese girls are way too young to be there.

I really love watching Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor in beach volleyball and of course, Michael Phelps in swimming. He’s crazy fast!

I think that my enthusiasm has rubbed off on Todd a little bit and he actually said, “You know, I’ve never liked the Olympics, but I’m starting to get in to it.”

When I asked what changed his mind, he said that it was the men’s 400m freestyle relay. Well, if that won’t change your mind, I don’t know what will!
