July Goals

June Goals Revisited

Well…. I treated my goals about the same way I treated my blog. Out of sight, out of mind. I didn’t read three books, but I read two. I didn’t walk Boudreaux every day. We did make a little bit more progress on Hayes’s big boy room. But, most importantly, we spent time out of the house every day. We were either at the park or at the pool and we’ve been having the most fun summer. I haven’t been eating all that well. After the beach, I completely fell off the wagon. But I feel great about myself. I think the Vitamin D does that for me!

June was a great month of fun and family and sweet reflection. We haven’t been taking life all that seriously and it’s just been nice to be intentional about family time and fellowship with friends.

All that said… I do have some July goals, if only for the sake of a blog post.

July Goals

Β 1. Read three books

Okay, okay. I put this down every month, but I love to read. I only read two books last month because I got sucked into Season 2 of Orange is the New Black. But I’m planning to read The Orphan Train, The Book Thief, and Goldfinch. What’s on your list?

2. Go to the pool four days a week

This isn’t all that challenging either. It’s the only way we can spend time outside in the summer and the boys love it!

3. Register Hudson for fall swim “team”

Hudson is quite the little fish and I want to make sure he has the opportunity to continue to do something he loves after school starts. He’s not a huge fan of soccer because he’s not super competitive. But he got really excited when I mentioned swim team to him.

4. Host friends for dinner at least once.

We had out of town visitors for a few days in June and we will have friends visiting again in July. We’re also hosting a going away party for our dearest friends in July, which will be fun, but I am not at all happy about it. So sad.

5. No spending. Period.

I do not need anymore clothes. The boys do not need anymore clothes. All we need are groceries. Amen. And I’d love to save to buy our curtains for the family room and breakfast room.

How did you do in June? About like me? What are your plans for July?

You know how much I love these goals!! Too bad we don’t live closer to each other and could go swimming together with our kiddos :). Happy July 4th Weekend!

I’m glad you’ve been having fun this summer. I think that’s more important than making a list every month. I read a new book called Bittersweet by Miranda Beverly-Whittemore. It’s very good – I hard a hard time putting it down. I also read All Fall Down by Jennifer Weiner. Started off good, then kinda lost my interest. I’m also glad Hudson enjoys swimming – it’s a great form of exercise, builds strength, and fun! I live in Arizona – the heat in the summer is brutal (although I keep telling myself it’s a dry heat) and swimming is a great way to get through the heat over here).

Goldfinch is on my list! I also would like to accept our house as is and invite friends for dinner (since Josh moved in we are making my house ours).

Goals are fabulous, but what’s more important is living intentionally and having fun, and it sounds like you had a month full of those things. My goals are to finish reading Unglued and Tell the Wolves I’m Home and to read Bringing up Boys and The One and Only. My sweet boys are heading with my in-laws to Charlotte for two weeks this month to see their aunt, uncle, and cousins. My hubby doesn’t know this yet, but I hope to surprise the boys with a playroom makeover when they return. What a perfect time to tackle the project of purging the playroom!

Wynn’s soccer league at church was non-competitive, meaning they just got together for practice once a week and didn’t play real “games.” I loved that, because it was all about running around, having fun and learning some new skills, and not at all about winning. (They have the rest of their lives for that!)

Swim team sounds like so much fun!!

Love your goals. I had planned on stretching out season 2 of OITNB, but I ended up binge watching and finished the entire season up in less than 4 days. So now I’m back to reading. πŸ™‚

I’m right there with you on no spending. I’m saving for new curtains for our living and dining room and nice window treatments are expensive!

    Enjoy your summer!

I think your goal of not spending is so refreshing and made me smile. So many bloggers these days are always trying to get us to buy more and more and more by showing us all their affiliate links to clothes they think we must have just so they can earn more from our chicks on their links. I appreciate you being honest and saying you have enough. How refreshing!

I feel like we’re living at the pool right now, but I love it!!

I need to stop spending this month too. My child needs NO MORE summer clothes, yet I continue to pick up a piece here and there when i see something cute. That needs to stop!

I just took my May power sheets goals off of the refrigerator today, only because we have house guests arriving this afternoon. So that’s about how successful Jun goals were…. Hahaha Maybe I’ll just pretend that there are only 3 weeks in July, start over next week. Happy 4th!!! Xoxox

I love the list of goals for each month.
I want to limit time on my phone and read in place of it! I am reading Antelope in the Living Room now and Melanie Shankle is hilarious!
I also need to jump into the no spending. Why is buying kids clothes so fun?
I guess that will be my August goal.

  11. says

My goal for the month is going to be to spend very little time on my phone and read at night instead!
I am readying Antelope in the Living Room now and love it. Melanie Shankle is hilarious!
I am always inspired to read more after you post book lists.

We are coming to Columbia this weekend to take our one-year old to the zoo. Once you posted about a super nice park in Columbia. What is the name of it?

  13. says

I read all three of the books on your list and The Goldfinch was my favorite! The characters and story got a bit dark at times, but the writing was so detailed and descriptive. I love it!

  14. Jessica R. says

Awesome list of goals, but can I make one (annoyingly unsolicited) recommendation? Don’t read the Goldfinch! One of the most nihilistic, unedifying, and unsatisfying books I’ve read in a while. Wish I hadn’t wasted a week on it. Even more unsolicited: Have you read Gilead by Marilyn Robinson? Maybe my favorite contemporary book. Anyways — love the blog as usual! πŸ™‚

  15. Laura says

Oh this is so fun! Can’t wait to hear about Hudson’s experience on swim team.

What fabric do you plan to use for your curtains? I have a major love affair with fabric. I could spend my entire decorating budget on it!
