Books I Read in April

Okay, so it’s the end of another month (how did that happen?) and I’m going to share the three books I read this month. I was on a roll early this month because I flew to Louisiana and back and finished two books on that trip. I thought I might actually read more than three books this month, but I didn’t read at all while my mom was visiting and just finished my third book for the month tonight.

It’s great because I’m reading a lot faster now than I was just a few months ago. I’ll read instead of watching TV at night or while we watch TV at night. And I read every night before bed. And I am getting the best sleep of my life!

I read three fantastic books in April and I would recommend all of them.

Books I Read in April

Where’d You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple

I found myself smiling all the way through this book. I know it was very different and oftentimes downright strange, but it was quirky and fun. And I think I liked it because it was unlike anything I’ve ever read. I just found Bernadette to be so charming and, although strange, I loved her transparency and honesty. And I felt awful for her. I felt like I was watching episodes of Arrested Development, which totally makes sense because the author wrote for the show. I highly recommend this book, but also understand that it’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea.

Defending Jacob by William Landay

Another fantastic book that kept me fully engaged the whole way through. This book is about a father who has to defend his son against a murder charge. It made me really stop and wonder what I would do and how far I would go to defend one of my own boys. The ending left me stunned and I still find myself thinking about it at times.

What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty

I read The Husband’s Secret last month, so I was excited to read What Alice Forgot. I was hooked halfway into the first chapter of What Alice Forgot. With every single turn of the page I wanted to know more about what Alice forgot when she bumped her head in her spin class. She has completely lost her memory from the past ten years and it’s so interesting to read and see things unfold. I’m a fan!

What about you? Have you read any of these three books? What did you read last month? It’s almost time for beach and pool reading, so I’ve been collecting fun books specifically for the summer season, too.

I loved The husband’s and What Alice Forgot. Have you read/plan to read, the quiet wife? Same type of book, different author.

Adding all three of these to my ever growing list of “must reads”. I read 5 Denise Hunter books during the month of April. (Barefoot Summer, Dancing with Fireflies, Game of Love, The Perfect Match and Truth or Dare) After I read the first one, I couldn’t stop. The books are very easy reads with sweet story lines. I sleep so much better when I read a little while before lights out.

I’m really into audiobooks right now. I can get my house cleaned or run errands while I listen. I love it! I listened to BRIDGET JONES: MAD ABOUT THE BOY by Helen Fielding and I never laughed so much in my life. When I finished it I just started it from the beginning immediately and listened to it again. It was that good. Right now I’m listening to THE ENCHANTED APRIL by Elizabeth von Arnim. It is a classic and my mom’s favourite. I’ve just never read it. I’m loving it! 4 women go off to Italy for a whole month. What an adventure!

I know I just mentioned this on Instagram to you, but I thought other followers of yours might also be boy mommas. I am reading The Way with Boys right now by Dr. Rao and am LOVING it!!! Highly recommend. It is so interesting and really gives insight into boys’ brains.

I have Where’d You Go, Bernadette on my iPad – along with a lot of other books – I’m going to Paris tomorrow, so I plan to read on the plane. We’re taking a cruise back from England, so I have 7 sea days to read as well!

Loved What Alice Forgot – also read The Husband’s Secret. Have you read The Hypnotist’s Love Story? It’s also very good!

I second the above comment– the Hypnotist’s Love Story (also by Liane Moriarty) is very good. I really like her books.

LOVED WYGB! One of my recent favs. You must read Tell The Wolves I’m Home. It’s been 3 weeks and I still can’t get it out of my head. I also loved Eleanor and Park. I’m waiting on Defending Jacob from the library!

How is the language in the books you mentioned? I have the hardest finding good reads that don’t have a lot of awful language in them. It ruins the whole experience for me.

I’ve read the first two, but need to add the third to my list!! Loves the first two. Totally need some new recommendations for my audible addiction!!

Loved all of those! I agree with the other commenters that you should read The Husband’s Secret. And I’ve forgotten what I am currently reading (what??!) but it’s really good…ha! That’s helpful, huh?

I read WYGB after Gone Girl because I was looking for another great mystery. Gone Girl was so good if you haven’t read it (you probably already have). Now I’m reading Dark Places by Gillian Flynn, really good too. Thanks for the recommendations. They’re great!

I just finished Defending Jacob. Oh my goodness. I still cannot believe the ending!!!! I kept thinking the entire book, what is he trying to say?!?!? Where is he going with this? Definitely did NOT see that coming!
