totally random Tuesday

It’s been a long time since I’ve done just a random little brain dump post, so I thought it was high time! It’s going to take me a while to gather my thoughts for the Disney recap posts anyway, and this is the next best thing.

1. I’m addicted to The Good Wife. I’m forcing myself to slow down and now watch it all in two days because 1) that would be crazy and 2) there’s no way I can catch up to current episodes before May. Do you watch it? Are you on Team Peter or Team Will? But no spoilers!

2. Can we talk about when Julianna Margulies was Nurse Hathaway? She’s come a long way, baby. I guess we all have since 1995.

3. I’m going to fall back in love with reading this year. My friend Rachel wrote about this yesterday, too. But I have a beautiful stack of books on my nightstand and I actually want to read them. Right now I’m reading the highly entertaining, easy read “The Longest Ride” by Nicholas Sparks. Have you read it? What’s the best thing you’ve read lately?

4. I took a bath in our bathtub for the first time last night. Up until a couple of weeks ago we didn’t have our shutters installed and a big window sits over the bathtub. No, sir. The neighbors would be scarred. But now most of our shutters are installed and that bathtub and my book were calling my name last night.

5. The Philosophy Amazing Grace Bubble BathΒ is amazing. So fresh and light.

6. I would really like to take a calligraphy class. Not because I want to do that for a living or anything (or maybe I would?) but I just think it would be a really fun skill to have.

7. I’m obsessed with this shirt! I am also dying to get back into my white jeans and sandals.

What about you? The Good Wife? Any good books? Any tips on picking up a hobby at 31 years old? (I’m kidding…kind of)

My husband and I are definitely addicted to The Good Wife. The acting is SO good and the writing is SO good! We just started watching last season and have been watching the current season. Sounds like we need to catch up on the back stories via Netflix! πŸ™‚

I’ve seen you talk enough about The Good Wife that I’m convinced I need to start watching it! πŸ™‚ My hubby and I recently jumped on the Parenthood train and love, love the show! We’re actually almost caught up and hope to start watching when it comes back on this month. Reading, oh before my sweet kiddos came along I would devour books, mostly nonfiction books. It’s something I’ve been wanting to pick back up, just haven’t done it. And as for a hobby, I feel like I need an actual hobby. I’m always embarrassed when somebody asks me what my hobby is because I don’t really have anything good to say….

I’m in the middle of the I Still Love Calligraphy class and loving it! It’s such a fun way to decompress and I cannot speak highly enough of Melissa! She’s been available and always gives candid feedback.

  4. says

I’ve always wanted to learn calligraphy too. I’m experimented by myself, but I think I may need some more guidance before I can actually say I can write this way!

  5. says

I’m on a kick to read 50 (!) books this year–so far I’ve liked Divergent and The Lowland. Not a fan of Sharp Objects (by the same author as Gone Girl).

  6. says

Love The Good Wife. Team Will for sure. The best book I’ve read lately is And the Mountains Echoed. Where’d You Go Bernadette was also great. I’ve been on a reading kick lately as there’s not much on TV right now that I’m enjoying, save for a few favorites.

  7. says

I just started The Good Wife. ahhhhhh I love it!! I’m trying to pace myself!

Just finished “The Longest Ride”. I’m a huge Nicholas Sparks fan. This one wasn’t my favorite, but still good. I love to read. Love Does and The Book Thief are both great.

You have me wanting to start the Good Wife! I might just start today. It’s rainy and cold here. I’m reading John Grishams new book Sycamore Row and it’s so good. I don’t want to put it down. I want to read Nicholas Sparks book next. I’m getting back into reading this year too.

  9. says

I too need a hobby. It used to be reading but since having kids that’s something that has been put on the back burner. My goal for this year is to read more and so far so good. I loved the book thief and the husbands secret. I also picked up hands free mama

  10. says

I think I could’ve written this post myself! I’m reading Longest Ride right now. And Hands Free Mama. Ohhhh…must-read for EVERYONE. Daddies included. And I want to take a calligraphy class, too! I just thought about that yesterday as I was addressing birthday invitations!

A friend of mine took up the banjo while her kids were starting music lessons. Said she thought it was good for them to see her having to practice and work at something, just like they did. I think that’s a really good inspiration for your kiddos if you take up a new hobby.

Had to chime in about the calligraphy class! My mom recently took a calligraphy class they offer at midlands tech just because she’s always been interested in it. It was several weeks one night a week and she loved it! I say go for it, I’m sure they’re are more classes in town as well πŸ™‚ can’t wait for the Disney recaps!

I just had my wisdom teeth out. Per your recommendation started The Good Wife. So good! i also read I Knew you when by emily liebert. Mix and match mama had recommended it. Almost done with A week in winter.

I love pampering time! And for hobbies, I love knitting! It is nice and relaxing, a bit creative without having to be too much so, and (once you get the hang of it) it is a good way to get out nervous energy while you watch a show or sit in bed.

  15. Beth says

I’ve got to get back on the reading train too. Instead, I’ve been immersed in Mad Men on Netflix. SO.GOOD. I can’t believe I’ve waited this long to finally watch it. Speaking of good tv, I’ve watched The Good Wife since the beginning and it’s a “can’t miss” on Sunday for me. Team Will- without a doubt!! But back to reading- other than the Nicholas Sparks book you are currently reading, please keep us posted on anything else good you pick up. We seem to have similar taste and I need book suggestions to get back in the groove. πŸ™‚

My two favorite books in 2013 were Calling me Home by Julie Kibler and Bread and Wine by Shauna Niequist. I think you would LOVE Bread and Wine. It is SO right up your alley, Erin!! Love, love, love! I’m currently obsessing on Scandal and am on episode 3 of season 3. Cannot stop!!!

  17. Leila says

Falling back in love with reading is one of my goals for 2014! I have so many half read books but I am completely hooked on (and this is nothing new – I just never read it!) Gone Girl! SO good!

    • Kristine says

I’ve been reading Where’d you go Bernedette? I love it! I’ve also been watching obsessively Justified. My husband got me watching around season 3 so I’ve gone back and started watching the first 2 seasons. I have a huge crush on Timothy Olyphants character Raylan and all the characters are so fascinating. The acting is unbelievable. Especially Margo Martindale in season 2.

Oh my hubby and I are totally addicted to The Good Wife! It’s so smart and sassy! Keep watching so you can be all caught up when the new shows begin!
As for books, have you read Jennie Allen’s newest “Restless”? I’m just starting it but it is SO GOOD! Also, Melanie Shankle (the big mama blog) released her second book today, “The Antelope in the Living Room”. Can’t wait to get my hands on it and dive in! Check it out!

Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn is the creepiest book I’ve ever read besides Still Missing by Chevy Stevens. I couldn’t put either of those books down. I thought Sharp Objects was better than Gone Girl. I’m glad you had fun at Disney World – I’m looking forward to your recap as well!

I have loved The Good Wife since the first episode. Wonderful writers and actors. My two favorite books from 2013 were The Light between Oceans and The Silent Wife. Sadly, the author of the last book died before she knew it was a success.

  22. says

I’m just now getting back to reading this post!!! πŸ˜‰ Ditto on the calligraphy and white jeans! Let me know if you find somewhere to take classes.

  23. says

    Thanks to everyone for sharing!
I have written down all of these suggestions for books since I have been wanting to get back into reading.
My husband and I have been addicted to Homeland recently but I don’t watch much TV otherwise. I may have to watch The Good Wife now πŸ™‚
Hobbies for a mommy are tricky. I don’t have tons of spare time and feel guilty being away from my kids doing things I want to do. So, decorating is one of the hobbies that I always go to. This can be a DIY that doesn’t require a lot of money or painting a room, refinishing a piece of furniture, etc. All of these things make OUR home more beautiful so I feel like everyone benefits. And it is a good stress relief for me!

  24. says

My husband and I LOVE the Good Wife! I have been trying to read more this year as well. My first book of the year was American Wife, it was really good. I’m working on The Paris Wife now!

  25. says

I’ve watched The Good Wife since it started. Definitely Netflix and start from the beginning. So many good story lines over the years. Another good one to get into is The Mentalist. Again, another one you need to start from the beginning.

  26. Kellie says

I started watching The Good Wife after reading your blog. I just finished the first season today. I love it but feel like there are way too many episodes to watch before I am caught up! It took me two weeks to watch the first season. These snow days have helped the cause!!!! I am pro-Peter! Can’t wait to see the twists and turns the show takes. Thanks for blogging about it. Are you almost caught up? How many episodes do you get in per day?

  27. says

Yes! Calligraphy! Me too! Jones Design just posted something about an online course…but certainly someone in this deep southern town I now live in will give lessons! I checked a while in cola and the Joann Fabrics in West Columbia offers one!

  28. says

Love the good wife! Only started watching it in January and iv reached season 5 and waiting for new episode. Team Peter at the moment.

  29. says

I cannot choose between Peter and Will! I love them both! I started watching the old episodes after the first of the year on Hallmark Channel and then they stopped! I guess I should just watch using the dvds or amazon prime.

  30. says

I’ve never missed an episode of The Good Wife, and I’m Team Will … but I just love the show in general. I’ll follow it no matter who she’s with, I think. Brilliant writing! And Julianna may not be Nurse Hathaway anymore, but she still WALKS like Carol did. It’s funny to me … she walks down the halls of Lockhart Gardner with the same gait that Carol walked through the halls of the ER. Must be a Julianna thing.

  31. Katie McCormick says

I got sucked into The Good Wife and have loved every second. Here are my thoughts:

    1. Team Will….it’s so obvious they are in love. I just want them to be together so bad!!!! But…
    2. If they were together, would it ever be easy? I feel like there would always be drama with Peter and the kids…
    3. I am a homecare therapist, but watching this show makes me want to wear fabulous suits to work every day! It’s not practical and won’t happen. Maybe my next job requirement will be one with a wardrobe budget and mandatory suit dress codes…
    4. I have recently come up with an idea for an episode of The Good Wife in my head dealing with the world of therapy and dementia. If only I could get in touch with someone about this brilliant idea;)
