The Future of Your Home

I am one of those people that loves to go to hardware stores and electronics stores just to wander around all the beautiful new kitchen appliances. I love to open the doors, look at the shiny new appliances, and imagine what I might put in my house.

Even before building our home, I loved doing this.

I was recently reading about a brand new product from Whirlpool called the CoolVox Refrigerator. I’ve never been much of a gadget person, but this refrigerator combines my love of music in the home with the necessity of the refrigerator. And it is just incredible!

The CoolVox is a sound system refrigerator, enabled by Bluetooth wireless technology and the fantastic sound of Harmon Kardon Speakers. You can play music through the refrigerator via Bluetooth through your wireless devices.

When we were designing our home, adding a sound system to our house was a big deal to me because I love to listen to music while I cook. When I heard about this refrigerator, I just thought it was the most genius thing. And made for me! It’s exactly what I would want, and helps eliminate extra clutter and devices in the kitchen.

Building on 2013’s Whirlpool® 20/20: A Look Ahead, Whirlpool® is back in the MommyTech Zone showcasing the evolution of the kitchen and beyond at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show. I LOVE the idea of a refrigerator that can stream music. Music is a big part of our household and our kids can often be seen bopping their heads to the beat and heard singing along. But what would be wonderful would be to have a fridge or maybe even the dishwasher that can digitally show the kids art work from school. Currently my fridge has about 8 large pieces of art work that the kids have brought home and will not let me remove from the fridge. My fridge would look so much neater!

I’d love to have more remote control over my home — I’m always so worried about whether I’ve left the heat turned up, etc. after I’ve left, esp. when we’re going to be gone for days.

My husband would LOVE this! I would love one with an ice maker that makes pebble/soft ice!! OR a dryer that would fold my clothes for me! HA! I would spend some good $$$ on that! 🙂

  4. says

We are hoping to redo our entire kitchen at the end of 2014/beginning of 2015. My husband would be amazed and obsessed with this fridge! I would love a dishwasher that would require NO pre-rinsing and a warming drawer that can also be a true oven. That would have been amazingly helpful over the past few days with tons of family here for the holiday!!!

  5. says

I would LOVE this for our kitchen, as it combines great storage with one of my favorite things – music. Our little girl would love this as well, so she could always have music to dance to. Thanks for hosting!

  6. says

This is probably a long way off, but I think it would be amazing to have a refrigerator with a tv display on it. I love the idea of having a tv in the kitchen, but don’t like the idea of trying to find a space for it (and for all the cords that come along with it). Having a fridge with a tv on it would allow me to watch the news, my favorite shows, etc while completely kitchen duties. It could also stream music and movies and be used for that as well. And when not is use, the tv could act as a digital frame of sorts and flash pictures, etc. This would be something I would invest it!!!

For our next home, I have two main wishes: a big beautiful laundry room with new washer/dryer, and a playroom with tons of storage! Those two things would make me very happy!

  8. Stephanie says

We are in the process of purchasing our first home. I have so many ideas of what I want for this new space (once we finally find it!) to look like. We are most likely getting a home that will need some updating and the idea of a gorgeous and functional kitchen that can gather all of our family in is what makes me the most happy about my future space.

  9. Alison S. says

We are updating our kitchen right now! Love this fridge and also want a wine fridge but space is limited.

  10. Lindsay Shedron says

This would be amazing! Not only is it beautiful, but it is multifunctional. I would love to get our iHome off the counter and utilize that space with a different kitchen gadget. It would be hard to top this, but having appliances and other home tools used by remote would be amazing. All too often I forget to power something down or adjust temperature accordingly after I walk out the door.

  11. Ashleigh F. says

We’ve been needing a new fridge for a while now. We have a baby due in April and I’d love to sing and dance with him as I cook! 🙂

  12. Katie G says

I love this idea. I think in the future, our homes will have a central server that controls all of our preferences and these will be sent to all home appliances with settings changing theoughout the day. Perhaps we’ll find recipes to cook and at the usual start time for dinner, the oven will begin to preheat. At bath time, more hot water than usual will be ready and available. Our habits and preferences will be tracked and accommodated for ease of living and energy efficiency.

  13. Janelle says

I, too, would love the idea of a refrigerator with a small tv imbedded. I like have the background noise of a show, music, whatever, while I am busy working!

  14. sl says

I love the idea of music from my refrig. I also love music while I cook. I also want a big walk in pantry to store everything and keep my counters clear!

  15. Elena says

I would love to have a kitchen with innovative appliances that use very little energy. I would also love to have a self cleaning sink and microwave

  16. says

What fun ideas that Whirlpool is coming up with! How exciting! I would love appliances with smart phone integration – both as a remote control, but also with reminder notifications – like a reminder about those clothes that have been in the washer or dryer all day. Even being able to link up oven/microwave timers with your smart phone. I always seem to have my phone with me, but can’t always hear the kitchen timers from other areas of my house. How great would it be to not have to set two alarms! Even being able to control oven temp or the microwave from the app. Thanks Whirlpool for being innovative & looking to make life easier for us moms!

  17. says

Layout is huge as well as being green, I would love an efficient home so that utility bills aren’t really high. I want the radiant heat flooring too!

  18. says

I would like to utilize space better in my home. There are so many areas I don’t use to the full capacity, so I’d like to learn how to space save and better place things for a happier home.

  19. Jessica Hrouda says

My portable speaker sits atop my fridge now – This would be an awesome addition to our home. I would love to have a fridge that makes small ice (like Sonic) I could make my diet coke’s right at home! What a great innovation.

  20. Susan Smith says

The refrigerator with a sound system is neat, I enjoy listening to music when I cook. I think it would be neat to have a TV too because sometimes I’m watching a movie in the family room and it would be nice to be able to continue watching it when I’m in the kitchen cooking.

  21. Lisa Brown says

My idea for the future of my home: I would actually like to own a home of my own, firstly, and if I did have a home, I would want solar panels on the roof, and all energy-saving appliances in the kitchen, laundry room, sensor faucets throughout, excellent venting system over the gas range, and a nice open layout that makes moving around in the house, a breeze 🙂

We are in the process of buying a house right now so this topic is very much on my mind. I love the options Whirlpool is offering in 2014. Music from your refrigerator? That’s beyond cool. I love to entertain and have people in my home so to combine music and food in your kitchen from one appliance would be very convenient.

  23. Heidi R. says

We are getting ready to move into a new home, and would love to replace my (although still working) 12 years old Whirlpool washer and dryer, with an updated front load one. And a fridge that plays music would be awesome for this music loving, dance party loving family!!!

  24. Cayt K says

What an amazing product. The kitchen is def the heart of our home and being able to ingrate music into the fridge is such a wonderful idea. Cheers Whirlpool!

  25. Kerry says

I think for the future, it would be great to have my on line recipe right at my finger tips in an easily accessed area. Maybe a screen right on my refrigerator since for me, that is right in the middle of my cooking area. Right now I use my iPhone and have to constantly keep pushing the home button when it goes black while I stir, or boil, etc.

  26. cw says

  29. Maureen says

We would love a bigger kitchen. We have a narrow galley kitchen. There is not room for more than one person to be in it at a time and it is right where the garage entrance is. There is not really room for pots and pans or even a kitchen table. We would love an island.

  30. Paula Gardner says

My plan for the future of my home is to upgrade appliances and systems in our home as often as possible and affordable to take advantage of the new technology and efficiency.

I can’t cook or do anything in the kitchen without music…I would also love a washer and dryer that I can control from my phone (like when I’m coming home and I want to fold clothes fresh from the steamy dryer, I can turn it on from my phone). One day!!

Do you remember how your parents told you not to hand on the handles on the fridge and stove as a kid?
