Five on Friday

1. The hills are alive…

Did y’all see Carrie Underwood and The Sound of Music on NBC last night? I stayed up way too late watching it after an event for Todd’s firm, but I was blown away. Blown away. KK and I played nuns in The Sound of Music back in 1995, and it was such a great experience. I love this show and love the stage production. What did y’all think?

2. If you live in the Columbia area, I highly encourage you to go shopping this weekend at the Junior League of Columbia’s Holiday Market at the state fairgrounds. Tickets are only $8 and they get you in every day of the market. And if you have kiddos, bring them tonight at 5:00 to meet Santa!

It might look a little like this!

4. Moving Day

We’re moving into our house today. If you’ve been reading along for the past year, you know there’s not much else I need to say. Can I get an amen?

5. Movies!

Hudson and I have been watching a lot of kid-friendly Christmas movies in the afternoons. We’ve been using this list as a guide. When we get moved and settled, I plan to drag out all the Christmas books and read those to them. I so love this time of year!

Oh gosh, The Sound of Music is one of my favorite movies…but I couldn’t get into Carrie’s version last night. It just didn’t work for me. She’s super adorable…but I didn’t love it. Am I the only one????

Super fun day for y’all! I am so excited for you. Seeing your house pictures makes me long for a brand-new house just not the process that it takes to get one. HA! Hope everything goes well for you today.

Good luck with the move today! I’m excited for you! I loved the show last night. It was so not the Julie Andrews/Christopher Plummer version, but I didn’t expect it to be. From what I hear, folks are blasting Carrie which makes me sad. She’s an amazing singer and though her acting wasn’t fabulous, I still really enjoyed it and I think she did great for her first musical! You mentioned going to Charleston for your husband’s work function- do you mind if I ask where you ate? I was just there in August with some girlfriends and we loved it! 🙂

Happy Moving Day, Erin! I know this day was a long time coming, and I can’t wait to see photos of your new home. Yay for moving in just in time for Christmas. So exciting!!!

I watched Sound of Music last night, and really enjoyed it. I knew it wouldn’t be quite as good as the original (because honestly, when are reproductions ever as good as the original?) but I didn’t expect it to be, so I wasn’t disappointed. Carrie did a fantastic job, even though her acting wasn’t super great. Overall, I enjoyed having a new, family friendly show to watch for a night. Hopefully they’ll do stuff like this more often on tv.

Just couldn’t get into Carrie Underwood in last night’s performance! Yes she can sing, but everything else was just all around flat. 🙁
Can’t wait to see your new home!

I can’t wait to hear all about your move. I follow you on IG and love seeing pictures of your new house. It’s beautiful!

I watched The Sound of Music last night too. I couldn’t stop comparing it to the movie and it just didn’t measure up. I love Carrie Underwood, because she’s a fellow Okie, but she just didn’t play the role like Julie Andrews. I thought the Reverend Mother stole the show. Her voice was amazing!!!!

Congrats on the move…so exciting for you!!!

Carrie’s voice is outstanding but she is not an actress……and having those Broadway vets around her made it glaringly more obvious….I had read it was not the movie version but the Broadway version so was prepared for the differences on that front………they needed an accomplished actress/singer to have the part……although I understand that they NBC needed the “name” person to make it…….it was what it was…..I managed to sit through it but it wasn’t good.

I posted about the SOM today too 🙂 Carrie has an AMAZING voice and I think she’s so gorgeous…but she is definitely not an actress and she’s no Julie Andrews (but then again, who is?)…but overall, I think she did an awesome job last night and I loved watching it! Although, now I’m really in the mood to go watch the original!

Good luck with your move!! xoxo

I thought the movie was pretty cute and I also stayed up way too late watching, but I couldn’t get over Carrie Underwood’s (lack of) acting skills… that aside, I think she did an amazing job singing – guess we know where her specialty lies! Happy moving day!

    Happy moving day!

So many people have been so critical of last night’s live performance. Carrie is definitely a singer, and not an actress, but I stayed up late loving every single minute of the show! It was cool to see something that was both family-friendly and innovative. I’d take something like that – despite acting flaws – over some of the terrible shows on right now any day of the week!

I, too, stayed up way too late last night watching The Sound of Music. And I, too, thoroughly enjoyed it!! 🙂 I’m so happy for y’all!! I may be many states away, but let me say “Welcome Home!”

The version with Carrie Underwood was a bit forced. The singing was good, but the acting felt like Days of Our Lives. Couldn’t get into it. (Captain Von Vampire was a bit creepy too!)

Cannot wait to see the new digs! Love that you can move in before the holidays 🙂
