On Tuesday morning, we loaded up our car to make the long drive to Indiana. The GPS says 10.5 hours without stops, so the drive ends up being a little over 12 hours for us to get to my parents house when we stop for potty breaks (for kids and dogs) and food.
If you follow me on Instagram, you may have already seen some of these pictures.
We packed up the dogs, the suitcases, snacks, the boys, their toys, and plenty of paper towels and we were off!
It rained and iced a little bit on us on the way up there, and then the rain finally stopped and there was snow. It wasn’t the smoothest drive, but the boys were troopers. Thank goodness for the DVD player we got last Christmas.
Over the river and through the woods, to KK’s house we go!
Todd’s parents and grandmother caravanned with us and joined us for Thanksgiving in Indiana. And my brother got the week off, so he flew in from Colorado.
By the time we were 25 minutes away, everyone was a little slap happy. We ended our trip with a dance party in the car, and even Boudreaux was excited about it.
I woke up the morning after we arrived full of gratitude. My entire family was under one roof and I was outside with my sweet dogs, and it was snowing. I just love Thanksgiving and love that it comes without expectation and full of absolute thankfulness.
We watched Christmas movies, cooked, ate delicious food prepared by my mom, and just hung around. I mean, is there anything better than Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, and the Haines sisters singing… “Sisters?” It’s just the best!
And Hudson was able to talk Poppy and Uncle Walker into playing Candyland with him a few times.
Thanksgiving Day was spent watching the parade, cooking, and napping. I think almost everyone took a post-lunch nap!
On Black Friday, Todd’s parents and grandmother drove back to South Carolina, and the rest of us went with my Dad to the Ball State football game. Hudson and Hayes had the best time. And, luckily, we were inside and out of the freezing temperatures.
My boys just adore their grandparents. We are so blessed to have four loving grandparents who just want to love on our kids.
After the game, we took the boys to see Frozen. The theater was packed and we were on the very front row, but both boys were mesmerized. They had snacks, but they laughed and laughed and never looked away from the screen. It was so fun to watch them. And I loved Frozen, too! It was such a great Disney movie.
The drive back home wasn’t as much fun…it never is. But was made it safely, and made it home in time to watch most of the Carolina/Clemson game. (Go Gamecocks!)
Did you see Frozen yet? How was your Thanksgiving? I cannot believe December is here. We’re pretty excited. We have a very eventful week coming up, and I can’t wait to share it all with you!

What a fun Thanksgiving with your family!! I love celebrating the holidays with the ones you love most!
We’ve been so fortunate to be able to spend holidays with both of our families. My grandmother used to say, “It’s Christmas when you get here.” 🙂
How fun! What great pictures! My family and I went to see Frozen as well! It was SO cute! What a great little story about love and family! Perfect way to bring in the holiday season! 🙂
Yes! I loved the message, the music, the humor, the animation. It was so cute!
We’re taking James tomorrow night to see Frozen (I wanted to wait until school was back in!!!) and I cannot wait. Everything I’ve heard has made it sound like the best Disney movie ever! Glad you had a wonderful Thanksgiving, Erin!
Smart idea to wait until school was back in! The theater was SO packed. He is going to love it!! Have fun, friend!
Looks like a lot of fun! Would you mind sharing what color lipstick you are wearing in the picture in the car? It looks so pretty and festive, yet it doesn’t scream look at my lips, lol! I have pretty full lips and shy away from too bright colors.
We saw Frozen as well and loved it! It was my daughter’s first time in the theater so it was pretty special! So glad you got back safely – that will be us after Christmas when we travel to my husband’s hometown 12 hours away. The drive is always a challenge but it will be worth it.
The driving is a doozy, isn’t it? It’s so worth it, but always presents some interesting challenges 🙂
What a great Thanksgiving! My daughter calls my mom KK too! 🙂
Aw I love that!! I think she’s just glad she has a “fun” grandmother name. 🙂
Glad you had safe travels!! A lot of people I know went to see Frozen too. I am debating on taking my 3 year old. He has only seen Planes in the movie and did great but got a tad bit scared when Dusty fell in the ocean. Do you think he would be scared in any parts of Frozen?
Hey April, there was a scary part with a snow monster. But it was only about five minutes and it was really the only scary part, I thought. My boys laughed a LOT.
Thanks Erin!
Looks like a fun time! I’m looking forward to seeing Frozen, but don’t think my 22 month old is quite ready for a movie theater experience!
Hey Keshet, I think we took Hudson to see The Lion King in the theater (he had already seen it on DVD) when he was about 26 months old and it was mostly okay, but he wiggled a lot. Ha! The good news is Frozen will be out on DVD soon enough for her to see it at home! 🙂
What a great Thanksgiving! Glad you all had such a nice time. I think I’m going to have to take my kiddos to see Frozen now. I’ve heard a lot of good reviews!
What an adorable family you have. Happy thanksgiving to you all!
How nice to spend Thanksgiving with your whole family!! We saw Frozen as well and loved it. Unfortunately, Carsyn is using fear of the snow monster to prolong bedtime..
So glad you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. The fact that you had snow is absolutely perfect!
Can’t wait to take Hudson & Ella to see Frozen. I’ve only heard good things.
I will never get tired seeing pics of your precious family! It looks like y’all had a great time! (But I’ll tell you what I’m really looking forward to! All the pics of your new house!!!!!)
Love that it snowed! You know that rarely happens in LA:) Glad y’all had a great time!
