Moon Pie Owls for Kids

moon pie owls

A few years ago, before my kids were born, I tore a page out of a magazine that had these adorable Moon Pie owls on it. I tore that page out and said that I would make those cute owls with my kids someday.

And that day finally happened!

I gathered up all the supplies we needed, and while Hayes napped, Hudson and I had a fun little afternoon activity of making these sweet, yummy Moon Pie Owls together. To clean up our fun Moon Pie Owl activity, Hudson and I used Clorox Disinfecting Wipes to clean the counter tops before and after the activity.

Moon Pie Owls

Ingredients:

Chocolate Moon Pies

Chocolate Cookie Icing

Blue Cookie Icing

(any other cookie icing color you want to use to decorate)

Orange cookie icing

Oreo Cookies Brown

M&Ms

Candy corn

Popsicle sticks

Chocolate sprinks

We used the chocolate icing as a way to attach all the other food to the Moon Pie. The brown M&Ms are the center of the eye, two Oreo halves are the big part of the eye, and the candy corn is the nose. We also used the orange icing as a way to do some fun, simple decorating on the Moon Pies.

We had the best time making these fun little treats together, and he was so excited to share them with his daddy and brother and even talked about bringing some to his friends at school.

I love the holiday season, and love that Halloween kicks it all off! I also love that my kids are old enough now to help out with some of the festive activities like cooking and baking, and helping make some of the decor.

The holiday season can spread more than holiday cheer – it can mean spreading germs, too.

With visitors in and out of the house, baking, hands-on activities with kids, holiday travel, shopping among a sea of people with the sniffles and holiday parties, it is important to practice flu prevention during the holiday season, so you don’t miss out on any of the festivities!

To help put a stop to the spread of germs this holiday season, be sure to get vaccinated, wash your hands frequently with warm water and soap for at least 20 seconds, do the elbow cough, and follow other good health guidelines. And encourage your children to do the same!

Clorox wants to help spread prevention through the holidays. It’s also important before and after hosting festive parties and holiday guests to remember to disinfect germ hot spots – like doorknobs, light switches, TV remotes, faucets and plastic toys – using an EPA-registered disinfectant like Clorox® Disinfecting Wipes, which helps reduce the spread of cold and flu viruses.

I make sure to get a flu shot and wash my hands regularly! Although I most likely always get sick around the holidays (fingers crossed) this year I will not!!!

  3. Elizabeth says

Get plenty of rest and vitamin C! It’s so easy to skip sleeping to get things done, but that makes our bodies weak. These owls are cute!

I like to make sure that I’m eating fresh fruits and veggies – since the holidays tend to be all about sweets – and getting enough sleep in order to keep me healthy!

As a former elementary school teacher, I wash, wash, wash my hands all. day. long. And we get flu shots, too, and try to exercise and eat well.

Keep up our good sleep habits so we don’t get run down and catch a cold or the flu. We tend to over eat a bit during the holidays so we stay healthy during the busy holiday season by getting outdoors when the weather is nice to burn off those extra calories and stress.

By getting everyone in the household to have their FLU SHOTS!!! We’re thankful we did b/c both of my children had two different strains of flu (that wasn’t included in last year’s shots) and their symptoms were primarily gone within 24-48 hrs because of the additional antibodies they had from their flu shots/mist. Go out and get them if you haven’t done so!

  11. Kirby says

We wash our hands like crazy! My mom (a college instructor who avoided sickness every school year) wrote an article for the Chicago Trib when I was a kid talking about how her secret was to just always wash her hands. We still wear by that advice.

  12. Erin Howell says

During the holidays and cold winter months, we wash our hands constantly – and I always sanitize while we’re out and about (grocery carts, etc) to avoid the sickies!!

  13. Erin Blonshine says

Lots of hand-washing and veggies!! It’s easy to get caught up in the yummy baked treats of the season, but it’s important to eat fruits and veggies to help your body fight infection.

  14. Danielle F. says

Wash hands after school/work immediately after coming home. Always keep Clorox wipes and Purell in the car for immediate disinfecting.

  15. D SCHMIDT says

We wash our hands frequently, sanitize carts before touching and always use paper towels to touch door knobs in public places. I also sanitize my children’s hands before eating or touching their faces when out. We also take vitamins to try to maintain health.

I stay healthy by going the other way when I hear coughing people! Just kidding. hahaha No, seriously. I always make sure when I get in the car after I shop to use that Germ-X and I think that’s about it! I keep my house clean so no worries there.

  21. says

Those are so cute! I’m going to grab stuff to try and make them for Thanksgiving!

I try to encourage hand washing…the school germs are too much for all of us!

  22. Sonya Morris says

By eating right (everything in sight, lol), drinking lots of water, taking vitamins, using a bunch of hand sanitizer & washing hands like crazy. Disinfect when visitors leave. As soon as we get home from visiting family, I will strip my kids and soak them in the tub to wash off any germs.

  23. Betty C says

Since we know that stress reduces our ability to fight germs, we try to relax and get plenty of rest. Along with that we try to keep a balanced healthy diet and use Clorox wipes to wipe down areas that are germ laden.
