Five on Friday… on Saturday!

I totally meant to write this post on Thursday night, but I’m out of town right now and that just didn’t end up happening. But because Five on Friday is one of my favorite things all week, I still wanted to go ahead and link up with Darci for Five on Friday… on Saturday.

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I have been in Chicago since Thursday. Molly, Nina and I are here on behalf of Dr. Smith’s diaper rash ointment. I will blog all about this trip later, but it was really such a fun weekend! With beautiful Chicago temperatures! And the most amazing rigatoni at the sweetest little Italian restaurant in Roscoe Village, thanks to Nina’s awesome tour guide skills!

While the couple of days away were super fun, and I am so thankful to Dr. Smith’s for being able to go… I really miss my family. I can’t wait to get home today and hug my boys. Todd and I are also taking Hudson to the game tonight against Vanderbilt. Whoa, boy! I’m so excited!

The house progress is really moving! Almost all of our built-ins are finished, almost all of the trim is finished, and we should be seeing paint and our hardy plank soon. We’re getting close! The mantle on our outdoor fireplace was complete (except for paint) the other day when we went by. This fireplace is on our screened-in porch, and just about every morning Todd and I talk about how excited we are to sit on this porch and have coffee. If we were sitting out there today, we’d be watching College Game Day and sipping coffee!

I am a regular contributor for Courtney DeFeo’s blog. Yesterday, I wrote about raising boys to have a healthy and normal standard of beauty. I’d love for all of you to go read it, especially if you have boys.

My two new favorite pieces for fall are these two from J.Crew. I love the Merino leather-pocket sweater. It’s heavy, but so pretty! And I love this stripe necklace tee! It is simple, but has a little bit of sparkle, and looks pretty cute with an excursion vest!

We begin our building process next week, so I’ve loved following along and seeing yours…are you planning to put an outdoor TV above the fireplace? Nothing sounds better than a fall day on a screened in porch watching College Game Day!

what?!! you were in chicago? i wish i’d had an erin sighting while out and about. glad you had fun in the city and got to enjoy a neighborhood, too – not just ‘downtown’. the outdoor fireplace sounds like a little bit of heaven on earth.

So glad you girls had so much fun in Chicago….. y’all are pretty much FAMOUS!! So neat!

And your casa is really coming along!! It won’t be long now at all!

Lastly, I absolutely LOVED your post on Courtney’s blog. It was something I very much needed to read! Jackson doesn’t quite “get” those things just yet, but I know it’s not far off. And I’m extremely guilty of saying things just like that aloud (not to mention thinking them all too often). Anyway, I’d never thought about how those self deprecating words could leave an impact on my little guy as to how he views beauty and what is okay to say and to think of women. Not to mention that I just need to shut it down and feel happy and blessed to have the able body that I do in fact have [even if it looks a tad different than it did pre-babe!]!! Great insight, friend …. thank you!! XO!

I have to ask which restaurant you ate at in Roscoe Village? We lived there for two years, and our dog is named Roscoe in honor of our sweet little Chicago neighborhood:-). Hope you enjoyed Chicago!

    1. We were at the Carolina game Saturday! My parents had extra tickets and we went with them. Wish I had known you were there! 🙂

    2. Your post about beauty was great, and it was a great reminder about the things we say about ourself and our actions go along way when we think about shaping our little boys’ lives.

    3. I love the Necklace Tee. I live in J.Crew!
