One of my favorite things about having two little boys so close in age is the seemingly instant friendship that comes through brotherhood. Hudson and Hayes are at the age where they play so well together, and they often refer to their brother as their best friend. This thrills me.
Recently, I had the opportunity to sit down with the boys and introduce them to The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. They were already big fans of Winnie the Pooh. We have tons of Pooh and Friends figurines all over the house, and ‘Pooh Bear’ was among Hayes’ first phrases.
I can remember watching the VHS of the Winnie the Pooh movie as a child. I loved the fantasy world of the Hundred Acre Woods and the friendship that Christopher Robin shares with Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Piglet, Eeyore, Kanga, Roo, Owl, Rabbit, and all the other friends in the woods.
I first watched the movie when we lived on a street full of other young families in Baton Rouge. It was our first house, and we would move around a lot after that. But I can remember living on that street and making friends with the other girls that lived across the street or next door. It was a different time. We could go in and out of each other’s houses and wave hello to the mothers as we dashed back to our friends’ bedroom to play with dolls. Or we’d just go outside and ride bikes until dark.
Moving away to a new town was hard, even to a seven-year-old. But I instantly made friends with my next door neighbor. We were school classmates, next door neighbors, and we developed a friendship when she invited me over to jump on her new trampoline in their backyard. The simplicity of Winnie the Pooh brings back so many sweet memories. The characters are there for one another. They share with each other and look out for each other. Pooh and Piglet would do anything for each other, and the sweet stories in this movie are exactly what I want my boys to see as a sweet model of friendship.
I’m thankful for the friends I made through my lifetime as my family moved around, but I’m also so excited that my boys will always have each other. That constant best friend, who lives in the room next door. And in my case, we may have moved and friends may have changed, but just like Pooh and Christopher Robin and all the other friends of the Hundred Acre Woods, the memories of those friendships last a lifetime. They sustain distance and time and changes. The sound of my boys’ laughter as Pooh gets stuck because he ate too much honey is a beautiful reminder that the magic of the Hundred Acre Wood is timeless, and the adventures will live on forever.

This is fantastic! I have a 7 month old little girl, and I was just thinking the other day about how I can’t wait to introduce her to Winnie the Pooh!
Sounds like a perfect Christmas gift for lots of littles!!
Pooh is my all time favorite!!!
I have two boys as well, ages 4 and 15 months. I love to see the relationship developing between them, especially as my little one grows older. I am so happy that they will always have each other to depend on!
I love pooh! And I love introducing my two year old son to the things I loved as a child!
Right now our son is our only child. I got involved in a mom group through meetup the moment we moved to Arizona (he was just 11 days old when we came here!) and since then, we both have developed such good friends. It is so important for Maddox to be able to play and interact with other kids his age, and to understand the concept of sharing and taking turns. Also, Eeyore was Maddox’s first stuffed animal. He had a little rattle inside so there was the tiniest tinkling of bells. Maddox LOVED that EEYORE so much. It was the only thing that he would want for the longest time. I am excited to introduce the rest of the Pooh family to him <3

Showing our children the importance of friendship is high on my list of behaviors to model. I should let them watch Pooh!
Pooh is one of our favorites. I can so relate to your thoughts on your boys being “best friends” already. I love it. We still have this on VHS and we often play “Pooh Sticks” in the creek behind my mama’s house!
This was my one of my favorites on VHS as a child too! There’s something so magical and adventurous about the Hundred Acre Wood. My favorite adventures as a child were playing in our treehouse and pretending to be the Swiss Family Robinson!
I love Winnie the Pooh! I found a collection of the stories all put together in one book with the intent of giving it as a gift, but have kept it just because I enjoy reading them occasionally myself!
Friendship, imagination and adventure are important for my children because they get to develop social skills and enjoy the fun of being a kid.

Friendships are the bonds that keep my daughter happy, healthy, enables her to use imagination, and often a source for many adventures.
healthy friendships allow children to grow and experience relationships with peers. It provides a safe ground to have adventure and imagination, teaches them social skills, and enables them to make mistakes and hopefully learn from them.
All children need to learn early the importance of friendship, imagination and adventure. If they learne these traits well, they will grow into happy adults.

Friendship, Imagination and Adventure will help a child grow and want more from life.
Friendship is the lodestone in our lives. Creativity and a sense of adventure can spark a child to perform better in school, become more confidant, problem solve – and lead to an amazing adulthood.
My daughter made a career based on imagination, creativity and a sense of adventure. She did this with 2 long time friends 🙂
I remember watching Winnie the pooh when I wan a kid 🙂 Loved it. Unlike myself I hope my children have lots of friends. I think its important for them to experience and learn the values of friendship. Helps them develop emotionally and socially. They learn how to set up rules, how to weigh alternatives and make decisions when faced with dilemmas. They experience fear, anger, aggression and rejection. They learn how to win, how to lose, what’s appropriate, what’s not. And of course they will also enjoy the gift of friendship. Having someone understanding and a support system. Make them laugh and have fun.
It allows them to discover who they are, which is important for when they get older. sweepmorey at gmail dot com

It helps them be good people as they mature.

Friendship is very improtant in any childs life, i try to get my son to build as many friendships early in life as possible to help teach him how to share and give him a sense of loyalty. Adventure and imagination are also soo so important to my young son, these charactoristics play big roles in anything a child does and wants to grow up to be, imagination allows him to pretend to be anything he wants and adventure lets him think of things he can do that help him imagine what he wants to be.
It builds character, creates a world of fun, and leads to a happy childhood.

I find that E. behaves and listens better after he’s had some socialization with kids his age. He’s an only child so that isn’t as frequent as for other kiddos, so we try to get as much peer interaction as possible for the little guy.
