What's in my bag? {and giveaway}

It’s been a while since I’ve done on of these posts. It’s funny how some of the items in our bags stay the same over the years, and as our kids grow and change, the items they need change a lot.

Now that Hayes is over two years old, but not potty trained, I very rarely carry an actual diaper bag. I only carry a diaper bag if we’re out for an all-day outing.

I keep a box of wipes in my car just in case we need them, and keep a spare change of clothes in my car. And then I just carry my purse with me, but throw in the things I’ll absolutely need for the kids.

These are the items in my bag.

what's in my bag_

1. Snacks. My boys love a snack, and it’s inevitable that someone will start whining at the most inopportune time. And the best fast solution is a snack.
2. Changing pad
3. A couple of diapers
4. Sunglasses
5. Gum
6. Lotion for me and the kids
7. Dr. Smith’s diaper ointment
8. Powder and lipstick
9. Toss Designs pouch to hold phone charger, camera charger, and makeup.
10. Another Toss Designs pouch for pens.
11. Lots and lots of pens.
12. Random toys from the car that somehow end up in my bag
13. Erin Condren Life Planner
14. Pool pass
15. Hair ties
16. Wallet (My mom received this wallet in a swag bag on a trip to London to the Burberry headquarters. And she generously gave it to me. Thank you, KK!)
17. Keys
18. iPhone

Dr. Smith’s is one of the staple items in my bag. Hayes has always had very sensitive skin, and Dr. Smith’s is a great diaper ointment and it’s also the perfect preventive treatment for Hayes. Dr. Smith’s is now available nationwide at Walgreens. You can find the retailer nearest you by visiting doctorsmiths.com.

So fun! But you left off the best part….we need to see your purse! And I can’t believe you carry your life planner with you. I’ve taken it out of town with me a couple of times (in my suitcase), and I found myself worried about it! Yep, I’m crazy.
And I love to carry a couple of dum dums in my purse. They are a GREAT tool for distracting Carter if I need to!

My must have item is my phone since I use it for everything!
I have never used (or heard of) Dr. Smith’s before. I will be looking for it!

The number one thing I keep in my purse at all times is baby wipes. Even though my kids are all potty trained and some are older (10, 7 and a 3 year old) I find there are TONS of uses for baby wipes and they come in very handy!

This is such a fun post! I keep baby wipes in my bag all the time. I don’t have children, but my golden retriever always seems to get muddy paws all seasons of the year.

What a fun post!! I love seeing what other people carry in their purse. And I’m SO happy to find somebody else who takes their Erin Condren planner with them everywhere! That’s an absolute requirement for me when buying a new purse….will my life planner fit?! 🙂 Now that we saw what’s in your bag, I’d love to see your purse. :))

  6. Katie B says

I love these kinds of posts! I take my life planner everywhere I go, too. But now I want to see what kind of bag you are carrying!!

My number one must have in my purse is Scooby Snacks (Fruit snacks) for my daughter. When we are out and about this is the one thing that will make her happy if she starts to get fussy! Never leave home with out them 🙂

I want to say something really beneficial like baby wipes.. but would it be contrite if I said my phone? Wipes is a close second.. I have two very dirty little boys! 😉

  9. Courtney H. says

I would have to say snacks are a top priority when shopping/goign out to eat with the kids. We like fruit snacks or squeezable apple sauces, since they’re no mess!

  10. Kelly S. says

My must-have item is EOS lip balm. I have one in my purse, in my bedroom table, in my kitchen, at my desk. I must have it with me at all times.

  11. Gina F. says

My kids are well out of diapers, but baby wipes are a MUST for my purse….kids are sticky, plain and simple..LOL 🙂

    Oh, and lip gloss.!

  14. Hascy says

I have a tin of Smith’s Rosebud Salve in every purse, in the car, etc. It works for chapped lips, cuticles, dry skin…

  15. Norma says

The must have in my purse is my iPhone. The next thing would be lip gloss. I have never heard of Dr. Smith ointment but I will look for it at Walgreen.

  16. says

As a soon-to-be-mom (in five weeks) I never leave the house without peanut butter crackers, a water bottle, and a hair tie. I’m pretty sure that will always continue. I can’t wait to carry around my diaper bag!

  17. Sarah Shuttlesworth says

Most definitely a ponytail holder and bobby pins. I’m growing out my hair and bangs! I have a cowlick and knew better than to cut them 2 months ago. lol

  18. Amanda says

The phone. When you have a military husband who deploys, you learn to never leave that phone anywhere. It becomes an appendage.

  19. Audra says

Chapstick is ALWAYS in my purse. But my bag is also always a mess with a million coupons spilling out. 🙂

  20. Allison says

With 4 and 5 year old boys, I always have baby wipes in my purse and another stash in my car. Those boys always end up with dirty hands at some point in the day when we’re out and about!

  21. Tina Rinehart says

I must have the diaper changing essentials, lipgloss, and my wallet of course. Lately, a small umbrella has been a must have as well!. =)

  22. Jennifer Gessner says

Diapers for my 2 kids and snacks! My daughter has food allergies (dairy, egg, and peanut) so I always have to have safe snacks available for her.

  23. Christy Groover says

Fun post! Hmmm, I would have to say as a photographer, my iPhone! Gotta have that camera close to catch all the babies “firsts”! 😉

  24. Mari-ann says

is Dr. Smith’s cloth diaper safe? And i love the idea of using little totes to keep things in to tooss from bag to bag…like your chargers!
My number one items…wallet and sunglasses

  25. Lisa C says

Wow. Your post brought back memories. My only is 23 so I have no need for most of what’s in your bag but it was fun to remember. Plus, I can now carry a small cross-body! Whoohoo! Your bag must be huge!

  26. Amber Miklos says

Well…phone and keys are non-negotiable. But I must have something for my lips! Current fav is Nivea Shine Naturally Glossy Lipcare. Oh, and a Luna Bar for when I’m starving but no time to sit and eat! 🙂 I guess that’s four things!

  27. Erin Howell says

Baby wipes! Even though my little is potty trained, I am always needing a wipe for dirty hands or a mess in the car! I think I’ll be buying wipes for the rest of my life! Love them!

  28. says

My # must have item is the Wet Wipes with antibacterial solution in them. Now that my oldest is potty trained it opens up a whole new door of my need for cleanliness.

  29. says

I always have my phone, a small wallet, keys, sunglasses and chapstick. If I have Owen with me I always have a diaper, a snack and sippy cup of water.

  30. says

This is a super fun post!!! 🙂 the things I ALWAYS have in my bag are: Cell phone, wallet/ID’s, extra binky, hand sanitizer and SNACKS 🙂 those snacks have come in handy more than once when my kiddos get cranky 😉

  31. says

I’ve heard a lot about Dr. Smith’s diaper rash ointment.. I need to check that out for my little guy’s sensitive skin! I love these posts!

  32. says

So fun! So hard to choose one item, but I am like you and don’t often carry a diaper bag, so the diapers and wipes are essential! I’ve had to use that emergency diaper quite a few times!

  33. Selly says

It’s a toss up between wipes and snacks. My kids could probably survive without the snacks, but I always have them, so they ask for them. So, I guess I created the snackmonster problem. I will go with wipes.

  34. Susan L says

Phone….I’m always getting lost and I don’t have a smart phone, so I have to call my husband. 🙂

  35. Claire Rheinheimer says

Sadly at this point it’s diapers. Oh for the days of makeup being the most important thing… lol

  36. Tiffany says

Bottle of water, wallet, sippy cups and sunglasses….okay that’s more than one, but being a mom requires a lot of things in my bag!

  37. says

I still carry a diaper bag with ALL essentials since I have 2 under 2 & I’m a nursing mom, but I have in my purse, car, diaper bag, etc at all times a spare bottle, a bottle of water & at least one Enfamil formula single just in case. My toddler can have water & my baby girl can get food if she isn’t able to nurse for some reason.

Learned the need for this the hard way when my son was a baby!

  38. Jenny R. says

I cannot live without baby wipes (and I may use them more often for the 6 year old than the infant even- ha!) and sanitizer! I cannot stand messes or germs!

  39. Amanda says

Even though Gray is 9 mos, with baby #2, I never carry a diaper bag. I have a little Lily make up pouch with a small pack of wipes a sample of aquaphor and 2 diapers and that’s all I need. Isn’t the difference between baby #1 and baby #2 crazy?

As for my personal essentials-chapstick. If I realize I don’t have it, my lips are suddenly as dry as the mojave desert!

  40. Beth B. says

My one thing that I have to have in my bag is my planner. Organization is key to a sane life, and my planner definitely helps me with that! 🙂 Thanks so much for the giveaway offer.

My felt pineapple coin pouch. It’s cute and holds a ton of coins for meters. You never know when you or a stranger may need change!
