Okay, these are my favorite kinds of posts because I love to know what you’re going to say! Like when I asked who would be invited to your fantasy dinner party.
I’ve actually done this post a couple of times before, but as readers come and go and time goes on, I think people’s answers might change. (You can see the first time I did it here and the second time here.)
I seriously get the biggest kick out of everyone’s answers.
So… here’s the question.
What’s your strut song?
You know the one. You’re walking through the grocery store, with your baby in the buggy and you can hear a rhythm in your head. It puts a bounce in your step.
Or you’re walking into a day of work and think, “This would be so much more fun if when I entered the building, my theme song would come on and I could strut across the room.”
Come on, you know you’ve thought about it, too!
If a song played every time you walked into a room, what would it be?
I’ve actually changed mine from the last time I posted this, but today my choice is Everyday People by Sly and the Family Stone.
I actually love to have it play during my warm up if I’m going for a jog. I’m absolutely a nerd. But I love music!
Honorable mention songs: I Don’t Feel Like Dancin‘ by The Scissor Sisters, Uptown Girl by Billy Joel, St. Elmo’s Fire by John Paar, God Only Knows by The Beach Boys and American Girl by Tom Petty
And for some reason, maybe because of the movie Easy A, Pocketful of Sunshine is coming to mind. But I don’t even really like that song!
So, please chime in and tell me what your song is! And then download it and walk around listening to it!
Girl on Fire by Alicia Keys. I get so pumped up when I hear that song. I have to sing every time and it makes me want to just conquer the world!
Oh my gosh, I love this song, and this SHOULD be your song! You’ve done such an amazing job. You can conquer the world!
Shania Twain-Man! I feel like a Woman. Gets me moving every time!
Haha! I love this one, too! I could listen to her greatest hits CD non-stop.

Jump (For My Love) by Pointer Sisters. It just makes me want to tackle something huge! This is fun!
When I was little, I used to stand in front of the mirror and sing and dance to this song. Great choice!
That’s a GREAT one. I don’t know how I could pick just one, and these are more about the music than the words (ahem)… Kelly Clarkson Walk Away, Jason Mraz The Remedy, Faith Hill I’ve Got My Baby, Taio Cruz Dynamite, Spin Doctor’s Two Princes, ok I need to stop. I also have If You Like Pina Coladas in my head strangely often. But I think the one would have to be Tim Mcgraw Something Like That
These are all great songs! I need to listen to a few of those! I love Walk Away and love it when it comes on during Body Pump or Spin class! 🙂
“Build Me Up Buttercup” by the Foundations … every time!!
Yes!! My sorority had our own version of that song, so sometimes I still hear those lyrics. But the original is WAY better, obviously. Such a fun song!
I’ve been on a Justin Timberlake kick lately (gee, I wonder why?). Tops right now are Damn Girl, Senorita, and Let the Groove Get In.
I haven’t gotten his new CD yet… My love for him comes and goes. Maybe I’ll listen to it. 🙂 I need to see what all the fuss is about!
Shining Star by Earth Wind & Fire. so embarassing (and it shows my age!) LOL
September by Earth Wind & Fire is one of my very favorite songs! Shining Star is great. And you are not old!
Love, love, love the movie “Easy A!”
As for songs…probably something by Barenaked Ladies.
Hahaha that scene in the movie with the “Pocketful of Sunshine” card…. such a cute movie!
Bob Seger’s Strut has to be on my list…but I’d steal John Travolta’s Stayin Alive too!!
Yes!! I love it when I’m in the grocery store and Stayin’ Alive comes on. I want to disco dance down the aisle while pushing my buggy.
Love this! Okay, so the first one that came to mind is “You Make My Dreams Come True” by Hall and Oates. I have no idea why I love that song so much, but I do. “You Are The Best Thing” by Ray LaMontagne also comes to mind because it was playing as we were introduced at our wedding reception. Just makes me happy!
I LOVE You Make My Dreams Come True! Great choice! It reminds me of 500 Days of Summer. So cute!
“She’s a Bad Mama Jama” suuuuuch a great song!! and puts me in a good mood when I hear it. What a great idea for a post!
LOL! Great choice! That is such a fun song! I think it was played at our wedding reception, so of course I can only think of dancing in a big white dress.
“Baby I’m a Star” by Prince! I got to see him live when I was 7 weeks postpartum in Columbia and it was an AMAZING show. Just… amazing. He’s incredible.
Oh how fun!! I didn’t live here yet when he came to Columbia, but I heard about it. I saw him in college in Dallas and it was amazing! I was in awe!
Hahaha…. I love these posts.
“American Girl” (both by Carrie Underwood and Tom Petty)
“Hey Soul Sister” (Train)
“Ho Hey” (The Lumineers)
Hey Soul Sister!! Great choice!! Now I want to listen to all of your choices. Great songs! I think you always play along when I’ve done these. I wish we could put together a big CD and have everyone practice their strut! 🙂
Lip Gloss by Lil Mama. The beat and the “whatchya know about me, whatchya, whatchya know” gets me every time. As in I have to stop and dance no matter where I am.
I need to download that one and listen. I don’t think I know that one and I’m obviously missing out!
Rhythm of my Heart-Rod Stewart
“With the words I love you rolling off my tongue.” Great song! I love it!
Love these post!! 🙂 I would have to say mine is… Titanium ~ David Guerra & Sia. I also love usher’ s “without you and Joe Cuba’s ~ Bang Bang! Lol!
Yes! Titanium! My hair dresser said today that Titanium would be his song! I could listen to that song all day!
All my running races begin with U2’s Beautiful Day. Recently I cannot get enough of Fun’s Some Nights! It gets me moving for sure (and maybe I add a few of the dances moves from Glee into my dancing)!
I can’t get enough of Some Nights either! My kids love to dance to it in the living room. It’s such a happy song. (Or it sounds happy! I never even listen to the words!)
And Beautiful Day is a great choice!
Anything by Beyonce. The song Get Me Bodied, is prob my fave one right now.
Love her! But I don’t know that song, so I”ll need to check it out.
Dancing Queen by Abba
Fantastic! Great choice!
Mine would definitely change by the year but right now probably: Feel So Close by Calvin Harris, Beautiful Day by U2, Dog Days are Over by Florence and the Machines, Keep Your Head Up by Andy Grammer, and Thrift Shop (loving that song right now!)
Those are all fantastic choices!
Well, I have three, because my motto is “Go big or go home”.
1. Yeah! by Usher. I love it so much.
2. Ain’t No Mountain High Enough by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell. This song makes me so happy!
3. Right Back Where We Started From by Maxine Nightengale. It makes me want to dance around and shake my hair 🙂
1. Love you and your baby Allegra!
2. Yes. StepMom. Crying just thinking about it!
3. I don’t think I know this one. Going to look it up now! 🙂
xoxo
Today, without a doubt, as I sit here in complete angst – Don’t Stop Believing!
Oh, friend. I love you. Praying! Don’t Stop Believing!
Wish we were sitting in the car singing St. Elmo’s Fire!!
Cissy Strut by the Funky Meters- t’s an instrumental, but you have to listen to it. That’s my cool walk song. It’s a total strut. Also, insofar as my cleaning/cardio mix goes, a Diva by Beyonce remix. Cause you know, a Diva is a female version of a hustler. Totally me, right?
I’m going to go listen to it right now. So funny! You are totally a diva. Or a hustler! 🙂 Love it! We need some candid camera videos of people doing their strut or cleaning to Beyonce! 🙂
I always love when you post these because it makes me feel a little more normal with my love of 70s music. 🙂 I probably couldn’t pick just one, but I have a playlist on my phone of Earth, Wind and Fire songs and The Commodores songs. If I get really bogged down running and need a little pep, I start that playlist! Ha! Josh says I have a 50 year old woman’s taste in music. 😉
The first sonf that popped into my head would be Don’t You Worry Child by Swedish House. I am loving that song right now. It has been helping to pull me out of a dark place
