our weekend: Charleston, sweethearts, and birthdays!

1. Okay, tonight is Oscar night. Kind of a big deal to me. I love movies, if you haven’t figured that out yet. And, really, I thought everyone loved movies, but apparently my good friend Crist doesn’t like movies at all. I don’t even understand it.

But over the past few months, I have tried to see as many Best Picture Oscar nominees as possible. We saw Les Miserables, Lincoln, Zero Dark Thirty, Argo, Silver Linings Playbook, Life of Pi and Beasts of the Southern Wild. I didn’t get to see Amour and didn’t really want to see Django Unchained.

I’m also pretty pumped about the red carpet and going to a friend’s house to watch the red carpet.

2. Todd and I had a quick little getaway to Charleston on Thursday and Friday. He had to speak at the law school in Charleston on Friday morning, and I got to tag along for a couple of days. We really needed a night out of town. We rolled into Charleston on Thursday afternoon (about an hour and a half from where we live) and went to a reception. Then Todd and I went to eat at Magnolia’s.

We saw a couple get engaged and enjoyed meeting the pedi-cab drivers we had that night. (We always take a pedi-cab and love chatting with the drivers.)

Friday, Todd had to go speak on a panel. It was raining really hard, but I hung out in the room and slept later than I usually do. And then I watched Argo in the room. It was pretty much the perfect morning.

I piddled around a little bit after that, but the rain stifled the day’s plans of shopping a little bit. Todd and I headed back to Columbia around 4:00 in time to have dinner with his parents and Hudson and Hayes.

Hudson and Hayes had a fun 24 hours with their RC and PC while we were gone. And of course, I didn’t take pictures while we were gone.

3. We went to Jack’s fun football themed part yesterday morning, and the boys had the best time playing with so many friends. They all had eye black on to look like little football players.

4. Todd and Hudson left after church to go to the baseball game today. I’m so hoping that Hudson will love baseball as much as his daddy and I do!

5. I was a server with a couple of friends last night at the Sweetheart Banquet at church. It is such a great event that our church puts on every February. Todd and I weren’t able to attend on Friday night because we were in Charleston, but I was able to be a server for the Saturday night dinner. It is so well-organized and so much fun to meet all the couples.

I did slip down on a piece of melting ice on the gym floor. It was definitely embarrassing, but if you know me at all, it shouldn’t surprise you that this happened. If there is an opportunity for me to fall down, I’m going to take it. (I like to say I come by it honest from my mom!)

Are you excited about the Oscars tonight? Did y’all have a fun weekend?

Well you’re in luck because The Big Chill, Home Alone, Shawshank and Jerry McGuire are in my top favorite movies list!

But I really hate Willy Wonka. Can’t help it. Scary Gene Wilder!

Crist, I agree- at least the movies you like are good. NOt liking movies is still weird though. My matron of honor does not like and/or cannot remember a plot of a movie immediately after viewing. That’s bizarre too.

I live for the Oscars but am going to have to miss a good portion of the broadcast (it’s obviously set up to record). J’s grandfather hosts a monthly family night and it’s tonight. Hoping he’ll let us turn it on! So glad you had a fun getaway to Charleston. We went there on our “babymoon” and ate at Magnolias. It was fantastic and I can’t wait to go back!

Forget the Oscars…you ate at Magnolia’s…I’m so jealous! Love that place…and Blossom. PS…you and Hayes look super cute at the football party

We visited Charleston for the first time this summer and ate at Magnolias too! It was great, but we really really loved 82 Queen. Can you do a post on what you like to do in Charleston? I know you’ve been there quite a few times now. We live in the NC mountains and are anticipating going back to the SC beaches this summer.

Oh how I love Magnolia’s! We went on our “babymoon” to Charleston (just a few weeks before Will was born) and I ate the fried green tomatoes and shrip and grits like they were going out of style. They also have amazing sweet potato fries and pecan pie…oh no. Now I’m hungry and jonesing for Southern food!!!

I just read a commenter above did the same babymoon! I bet tons of pregnant women flock to Charleston for their last big food hurrah before baby comes, LOL!

A mini getaway to Charleston sounds lovely. I’ve only been there once, attending a conference, and really enjoyed it. Hudson looks happy with his lollipop – I hope he had fun at the baseball game!

Ah, the Oscars. Brandi Glanville needed to cover up a little bit more, I thought. But how cute did Channing Tatum look? Jessica Chastain looked amazing in her dress. For the most part, I thought everyone was well put together. Although I was not a huge fan of Kelly Rowland’s dress. I loved the dance and musical numbers. And William Shatner always makes me laugh! The only movie up for Best Picture that I saw was Silver Linings Playbook. I have a four month old, so it’s a little harder to go to the movies these days – I’ll be ordering many of them from Netflix, though!

We actually had a rare occurrence of snow here in Arizona last week but it cleared up in time for the Rodeo (which is a big event in Tucson – children get two days off at school). We took our son to a little event called the rodeo roundup – there was a petting zoo, pony rides, face painting, country music band, etc. even though are son is too young to participate, it was enjoyable to just walk around. Then we went to eat at my favorite Mexican food afterward.

I’m so glad you had a fun getaway! I love seeing couples get engaged it makes my non-romantic heart get all warm & fuzzy! Also, I knew we were meant to be friends… I fall ALL.THE.TIME. I also get this from my mom who had a nickname growing up as “flippy”, because she wasn’t so steady on her feet. My nickname was “grace”. 😉

I’m impressed by how many of the best picture nominees you saw. I have only seen two so far-Argo and Zero Dark Thirty. They were phenomenal! It sounds like you had a great weekend. Hayes looks adorable in his eye black, such a cute Birthday idea!
