base-ketball, soccer, movie night, and devastating television

We had a really fun, long weekend. I completely forgot that Monday was President’s Day until I glanced at the calendar on Sunday night and realized that the boys wouldn’t have school on Monday.

On Saturday morning, we went to breakfast with Todd’s parents. After breakfast, we took the boys to get haircuts. Hayes needed a serious haircut. His hair has been growing in the back and on the sides, but not in the front. So it was time to get him cleaned up a bit.

He was such a wiggle worm, as you can tell by the blurry picture. I don’t know how the girl managed to do such a great job with him moving around so much, but he ended up with a cute little haircut.

That day it rained and rained all day long. And we were supposed to get some kind of wintery mix. That was the day that I put the outfits together for yesterday’s guest post and on the way to my in-law’s house, it started hailing. I’ve never seen hail in such cold conditions. Then it turned to freezing rain and some areas of town got snow. It was a wild weather day.

That night, we took the boys to Target and then we went to Smashburger for the first time. We really liked it, and the boys actually ate their food. Do you have a Smashburger where you live?

On Sunday after church, we hosted some friends and their kids at the Gamecock baseball game. All of our friends have kids the same ages as our kids. Hudson was so excited and kept saying, “We’re going to the base-ketball game!”

We had Todd’s firm’s suite for the game, so the kids were able to run around in the suite and go outside to watch the game. The adults could supervise and watch the game. It was a really fun time for all of us!

I wanted to get a picture of all seven kids together, but that didn’t happen.

After the baseball game on Sunday, a few of my girl friends and I got together to see Safe Haven. I had read the book back when I was pregnant with Hayes and loved the book. I loved that it was a great blend of romance, suspense, and a good Southern story. It isn’t the typical Nicholas Sparks book. (My favorite Nicholas Sparks books are The Guardian, The Lucky One, and Safe Haven, by the way, because of the suspense.)

Anyway, I really, really enjoyed the movie. There were a few differences between the book and the movie, but it had been so long since I read it, I didn’t notice many of the differences. And, of course, I cried and cried and cried.

Hudson’s “soccer season” starts next month, so we’ve been trying to teach him a little bit about the fundamentals of soccer. Or at least the whole “don’t touch the ball with your hands, only with your feet” part of soccer. We’re excited to see how he does playing with all of his friends.

Hayes has hated getting baths for as long as I can remember. And last night, he actually tolerated it for a while. As in he didn’t scream and cry for thirty minutes. I’m hoping he’ll come around and start enjoying it more as we get closer to the summer. He needs to be loving the swimming pool this summer!

But he was so sweet hanging out in his towel after his bath last night. Sweet little love bug. He looks like he’s 6 months old in this picture.

Another really big part of the weekend was the Downton Abbey season finale. And I’ve love to talk about it, but don’t want to spoil anything for my friends who haven’t seen it yet. But seriously? Just pure devastation!

I saw Safe Haven also and thought it was really good despite being different than the book. I love most of Nicholas Sparks books and one of my favs is A Bend in the Road.

I am really looking forward to baseball season!

Just downloaded Safe Haven to my iPad – looking forward to reading it. And Downton Abbey – BIG fan, and I was also totally devastated and surprised! I read on another blog that some people weren’t surprised (don’t worry – no spoilers here), but I gasped! Actually, I figured it out, but only a few seconds before.

Now I can’t wait for the next season!

Downton – WHY????? I actually heard about this by accident a few weeks ago when I was researching why the actress why played Cybil left the show. Sometimes (even thought I hate when this happens) I wish they would just replace the actors instead of killing them off.

We saw Safe Haven this weekend too, and I loved it! I actually didn’t read the book, so I wasn’t able to compare the movie to the book. I thought Julianne Hough and Josh Duhamel were cute together. 🙂

I started the series of Downton Abbey this month and watched all three seasons so I was caught up in time for the season premiere. I was shocked!! I had no idea that was coming. He was one of my very favorite characters too, so I am so sad about it. Let’s hope next season is a littler happier than season 3. 🙂

Love the pics of your boys! They are just precious.

I haven’t read Safe Haven, but my favorite book written by Nicholas Sparks is The Guardian. I was bawling by the end. I’ll never forget the dog’s name – Singer.

And Downton Abbey – OMG. My favorite character. I wish it hadn’t ended the way it did. On another note – interesting twist that Lady Edith’s character is taking.

I love baseball – especially spring training in Arizona. I’m trying to plan Ann anniversary trip to NYC this year. My husband’s team is scheduled to play the Yankees during that time, so I hope it happens!

I also read Safe Haven awhile ago so I don’t remember it much! I’m anxious to see the movie!

Baseball – yes, I am a huge St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan! They always do well so it is fun being a fan! We’ve also taken our son to sit in the suite there courtesy of my sister’s employer. It’s the only way I’ll take my son to a baseball game until he gets older!

Downton Abbey – I was stunned and so so sad for Lady Mary. But I knew something was going to happen because I heard that Matthew was leaving the show. And what is it with Lady Edith and her older men?

A suite sounds like the perfect way to see a game with kids!! I found out about Downton late, so I watched the first two seasons on Netflix, and then you gotta hate that gap between Netflix and the current season! I didn’t want to pay for episodes on itunes or Amazon, so I’m just waiting. But of course now I’ve seen so many spoilers on Facebook.

How cute is Hayes with his little hair cut? He and Hud definitely have their own looks but they look SO MUCH more like brothers with the haircut, too cute! We love Smashburger. Are you surprised? I rarely meet a burger and fry I don’t love. Ha! Wish our boys could run and play soccer and base-ketball together! What fun!

I was crushed at the finale!!! I was reading how those watching in the UK watched it on Christmas Day, it would have seriously messed up my Christmas if I had watched it then. This season was so rough to watch, it makes me wonder if I still want to. I don’t like spending my Sunday nights sobbing!

I was still getting over Sybil’s death. Ugh! I was literally in shock!!! I read today that they already have people auditioning to be her new love interest!

I LOVED the outfits that you guest posted about yesterday – really, really cute! I’ve only been reading her blog for a couple of weeks, but I’m hooked. We have a Smashburger in Phoenix and Scottsdale, Arizona, and we’ve gone a few times. Definitely a yummy find. I just started following you on Pinterest, Erin. I need lots and lots of inspiration for the home…our new place needs some serious of help. 🙂 Your weekend sounds like a fun one!

You had such a packed weekend! What fun!

I really want to see Safe Haven, but I’ll have to get my friends to go since my husband won’t see it 🙁

Oh my gosh I can’t read the comments because I don’t want to know what happens in DA, but I just love the show so much!

I’m so glad that you enjoyed Safe Haven. I recently finished the book, and can’t wait to see the movie soon!

I can’t get over Downton Abbey… devastating! I’m so curious to see where the show will go from here.

The baseball game looks like so much fun! I can’t wait to see Safe Haven, I’m in the middle of the book right now. I literally cannot put it down, it’s so good. I still haven’t watched the Downton Abbey episode. It’s waiting on my DVR but it sounds like I better prepare myself for disappointment.
