Mary Kay Review & Giveaway

I’m not much of a beauty product tester. I find a favorite product, and I continue to buy the same things over and over again because I know they work. I wouldn’t call myself adventurous when it comes to makeup.

However, when I was given the opportunity to try some new products and some bestselling products from Mary Kay I jumped at the chance. A sorority sister of mine did a Mary Kay party at my apartment ten years ago, and that was the last time I tried Mary Kay products. But I remember loving them then, and I was excited to try them again.

I opened up my box and was so pleased to see such a huge variety of products to test. I removed all of my makeup and moisturized my face and got to work!

I applied my every day tinted moisturizer and then opened up the Mary Kay® Compact Mini that had three Mary Kay Mineral Eye Colors in Golden Vanilla, Lavender Fog, and Truffle, and a Mary Kay Mineral Cheek Color in Shy Blush. This little compact has every single thing I need in it. And the little brushes fit right underneath the colors. It’s perfect for when I’m on-the-go and need to reapply when I’m not at home.

To finish off my eye shadow look, I also used the Mary Kay Mineral Eye Color in Sweet Plum. This color is so pretty and the perfect color for the crease in my eye.

After I finished up the eye shadow, I applied some of my own eye liner and then opened up the mascara from Mary Kay. I am such a fan of mascara. I really need to always use waterproof mascara, but decided to try the Mary Kay® Ultimate Mascara™ . It creates a bold and dramatic look, and it creates longer looking lashes and lasts all day long! I primed my lashes with the Mary Kay® Lash Primer, and I can’t say enough great things about Lash Primer. This is the key to having my mascara stay on longer and show up bolder. It also helps lashes stay curled longer. The Lash Primer and Ultimate Mascara™ duo is one of the best combos I’ve ever tried.

I finished with the Mary Kay® NouriShine Plus™ Lip Gloss in Café Au Lait. I’ve never been a huge fan of lip gloss because I’ve only tried really sticky glosses. With this lip gloss, my lips felt moisturized, the color appeared to stay in place, and it was not at all sticky!

I’m so pleased with the very natural look I achieved with all of these colors. The makeup is light and actually feels good on my skin.

And now for one last very important review. The Mary Kay TimeWise® Microdermabrasion Set was sent from the heavens. It’s a two-step set that fights fine lines, refines pores, and leaves my skin feeling so smooth almost immediately. Really, after one week I saw visible results. And it smells wonderful and is just a great way to end a day, in my opinion. I will always use the TimeWise® set now that I know how great it is! What about you?

The best tip I’ve learned is to do a bold lip or eye. Not both. Since I heard this I’ve noticed that when I see someone wearing “too much” makeup it’s because they’re wearing bold lips and eyes.

the greatest tip i ever received for my face was to ALWAYS, ALWAYS wash and moisturize each morning and evening!! :o)

I got the same great advice as Jennifer (above), but I don’t always follow it… :/ The best advice that I’ve gotten that I USE is to put a little white eye shadow on the corners of the your eyes to brighten up your eyes – this has been HUGE since having a baby!!! 😉

The best tip I received was to moisturize before applying makeup to create a good, even base for foundation!

I’ve used Mary Kay for almost 10 years. It’s the best, IMO!!

  5. Megan says

The most important thing I’ve learned is to always take my makeup off before bed. A clean face is SO important to let your skin breath and restore itself at night 🙂

  6. Sarah Wright-Gaul says

Always take make off before bed! Especially eye make up! We don’t need any help looking older!
Moisturize – even in the summer when it is hot. Your face (and body) need moisture!

  7. Caity says

I was told years ago to only use my ring finger when applying any make up by hand. Apparently because the ring finger is typically the weakest it is also the gentlest for the delicate skin around our eyes.

  8. Toni :O) says

The best tip I’ve ever received is to use SPF every.single.day no matter if it is cloudy out or not. I love MK products!

  9. Bethany says

The greatest beauty tip I’ve abided by for the longest is using a tint or foundation with a higher (than most) SPF. Gotta keep that sun damage at bay!

  10. says

The best tips I’ve ever received are…wash your face every night before bed and moisturize! I’m great at washing my face every night…just have to have a clean fresh face before bed, but I’m not so good about moisturizing.

  11. Ellen says

Yep, washing my makeup off at night is definitely the best tip I’ve ever gotten. It really helps keep my skin clear when I’m not too lazy to do it.

  12. Amber says

The best tip I’ve heard is to pay attention to your foundation color…you may actually need a summer and a winter shade based on how much sun you get in the summer.

My mother has aged beautifully despite her many years in the sun and she swears it’s because of two things – aloe vera and water. She uses aloe vera gel on her face daily and drinks TONS of water. Easy little things to try 🙂

  14. Rebekah says

The best thing that I learned is to always wash your face before you go to bed…you can age your face just by leaving your makeup on all night.

I sold Mary Kay for a short amount of time and still wear their products. One trick I learned while I was a consultant was that their mascara is really easy to get off with a qtip if you get any accidental smudges or lash marks on your eye lids. Just lightly brush away and it doesn’t mess up your eye shadow any. Thanks.

My sister sells Mary Kay. When she first started, I thought ugh, I have to change my makeup and skincare products to be a supportive sister. This sucks. And then I actually tried the products, and I really love them. I think my best beauty tip is to get enough sleep. And when you can’t, yellow concealer works wonders on those dark circles!

  17. Lisa Brown says

Greatest beauty tip: don’t stress. Stress is so hard on skin and can prematurely age you.

The greatest beauty tip I ever learned was to not just apply bronzer/blush to your cheeks, but anywhere the sun would naturally hit your face- forehead, nose and chin!

  19. Eunice says

moisturize your neck too!! i was in my sister’s wedding last week and had a friend do my makeup (i don’t typically use very much makeup), pretty sure i hadn’t felt as pretty since my own wedding day 10+ yrs ago!! i’m now on a mission to find new makeup, would love to win it!!:)

  20. Laura F. says

The best tip I ever got was to apply a little bit of your concealer to your eyelid as well as under your eye. This keeps your lids from looking puffy and red.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  21. Kelly S. says

The best tip I’ve heard lately is to use a thin facial lotion first and then on top of it-use a heavy lotion. (Bobby Brown tip).

Thanks so much for the chance to win.

I have eyelashes that stick straight out without any kind of curl to them. When I was first learning to put on makeup as a teen, the best advise I got was to curl them before using mascara to open up my eyes.

  23. Megan Ferguson says

The best tip I ever received regarding beauty and face care was from my mother who said, “You are never too young to start taking proper care of your face.” She always instilled using proper facial cleansers, moisturizers, etc to prevent sun damage and aging!

  24. Krista says

Always remove make up before bed. I know how important this tip is, but I have to admit I am occasionally guilty of not following it.

  25. says

I feel like the best beauty tip I’ve received it to wash my face each night. i have combination skin and I feel like washing each night really helps me!

  26. Laura in LA says

I learned to apply moisturizers very light handed in upward strokes, so you aren’t tugging your skin downward. This tip was told to me at a Mary Kay party!

  27. Erin (P) G says

The best beauty advice I think I’ve been given is to always wash & moisturize before going to bed at night. Would love to win a Mary Kay gift basket seeing as how I don’t typically purchase MK makeup.

  28. karenmed409 says

I use a moisturizer under my makeup and switch out in summer months to wear a sunscreen under my makeup instead. It does the same trick and doesn’t dry my skin

  29. says

Greatest beauty tip I’ve ever read was to use honey- it was s recent disvoery and has done amazing things to my oily and sometimes dry (yes, i’m blessed with some great skin!) skin, I’ve been washing with it and using it as a mask- amazing!

  30. CrisM says

My tip is a bit rough around the edges, so to say. I grew up with only a dad in my life, so having that first trip to the mall to buy makeup with my mom wasn’t an option. My daddy always told my sister and me, “makeup is for ugly girls”. While I don’t live by those rules now, I keep it very simple. A touch of mascara, and lip gloss. That is it. For me, simple (and natural looking) is always better! (and daddy approved).

  31. Laura says

The best tip (that I am now regretting that I didn’t follow) – ALWAYS wear sunscreen. At one point in my childhood, it was “cool” to get a sunburn. Unfortunately, it shows years later.

  32. Wild Orchid says

My favorite beauty tip is to put a little white eyeliner along the inner corner of the eyes to make them appear bigger.
