31 days of back to basics blogging: Day 1

It has been evident so far in this school year that to Hudson, one of the tell-tale signs of being a “big boy” is being able to bring your lunch to school.

His school gets out at noon, but kids are able to stay after school for various activities. And sometimes kids just stay after school for thirty minutes to eat lunch. Hudson stays after school on Mondays for J.A.M. (Jump and Move) and he brings his lunch on Mondays.

Every Monday morning, I pack his lunch box. He typically gets carrots, grapes, strawberries, Goldfish crackers, and a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. And every Monday, Hudson is so excited about his lunch box.

We got a bit of an early start this morning. We don’t usually leave the house until 8:45, but we were ready to go at 8:20. Hudson sat by the door with his lunchbox until it was time to leave.

Today was a day that Hayes also goes to school. His early interventionist was going to be meeting him at school today to work with him in his classroom. I was really happy to hear that they had a good time, and I love getting the written reports from her on his progress with speech therapy, and getting the “assignments” for what I can be doing to work with him.

When the boys were at school this morning, my friend Amber came over with her twin two-year-old boys so she and I could brainstorm some things for our church’s Christmas production. Her boys are so sweet and were just so funny! I had forgotten how cute two-year-olds are!

On the way to pick the boys up from school I had a long overdue phone conversation with Catherine, one of my very best friends from college. And when we said goodbye and got off the phone, I found myself in tears. I sent her a text telling her that apparently now I can’t even say goodbye on the phone without crying. I hate goodbyes.

Hudson loves his little friends at school, and frequently refers to them by their first and last names. His little buddy Dolan is just the cutest thing.

We’re having a relaxing night at home. I cooked supper, and we let the boys stay up a little later than usual for a dance party. I’m so excited that fall TV is back. We watched Homeland and Revenge last night, and I’m glued to Dancing With the Stars tonight. I’m rooting for Shawn or Emmitt to win it!

I hope you all had a great first day of October!

this is too funny, because libbi LOVES taking her lunch to school! every day when i pick her up, the first thing she does is tell me what was in her lunch box. (even though i’m the one that packed it- ha!) 🙂

Hilarious, Amy! Hudson’s “report” in the car every day is always about what he had for lunch. Before he ever stayed for lunch, he used to come home saying, “Mommy, where’s my lunch box? I need a lunch box.” He was so envious of the kids who got to stay for lunch. It’s so funny the things that they think are so great!

We decided not to send our daughter to 3yr Pre-K, but has recently become obsessed with her “lunch packpack.” As a teacher I usually take my lunch every day and wish I could be as excited as her!

I love this post! I had to laugh about Hudson referring to his preschool buddies by first & last name. I’m still friends with so many of my preschool friends (our parents are all still friends) & they still refer to me as “Katie Bender”. We joke about how they thought it was a double first name!

I just love this post and LOVE your topic. These are the posts that made me “fall in love” with your blog from the beginning. That banner that Nina made is just about the sweetest thing I’ve ever laid eyes on. You are so blessed! Precious boys!

Lunches were the best when mama made them for me. If you ever want to really tickle him, cut his pb&j with a cookie cutter so it’s in a shape. That really made my mom the best mom ever ha!

Loving the back to basics! Shoot me an e-mail- I want to hear about the early interventionist (or you might have posted, and I missed it). Sweet Hudson- I must admit that lunch is the highlight of my day as well! xoxoxo

K.C. loves his lunch box, too! He’s still coming home with most of his lunch uneaten, so we’ve talked to him about starting to eat school lunches. It turns out the poor thing really wants to eat school lunch like some of his classmates, but wants to carry his lunchbox everyday because he loves it. Great post!

Love your post topic for this month! I can’t believe how big the boys are, it doesn’t seem like it’s been long since I was wedding planning and reading about your wedding:)

Remind me how old exactly Hayes is? Graves is eighteen months and says literally two words and I’m sort of concerned and wondering if it’s time to look into something to help him or if this is just his normal :-/

Ok sooooo I heard it in your voice when we were hanging up but I couldn’t say anything b/c I was on the verge myself! I had to keep it together for the sake of driving and my emotions are already a wreck. It was so great catching up with you and getting my mind off of my dad for a minute. I love you and miss you and love you and miss you!!!
