ketchup… catsup… catch up

1. I’m absolutely loving my new Bible study. It’s hard work and it’s wonderful. This is probably one of the reasons I’m not putting very thoughtful blog posts together right now. But that is okay with me, because I am completely loving this study in Proverbs and the women I’m getting to know.

2. My new addiction is Pretty Little Liars on Netflix Instant. Rachel and I have such similar taste in TV shows, so when she said she was enjoying it, I knew I had to watch it. So while I’ve been ironing, folding laundry, and prepping dinner, I’ve also been sneaking in episodes of Pretty Little Liars. It can be slightly cheesy, but I like the characters and the suspense. It’s a fun show!

3. Speaking of Bible study, I hope I can put together a couple of posts soon so I can share with all of you some of the things I’ve learned.

4. We started speech therapy for Hayes this week. Once a week he will meet with an early interventionist for an hour and then for another hour each week he’ll meet with his speech therapist. I really like both of these women and I’m excited about what they can teach me to help Hayes get his little words out. I can see the wheels turning in his head, and we know he can hear us. We just have to help him form his words.

5. In a few weeks, I’m heading to Indiana for the Influence Conference. I’m excited to see my parents and Nina and get to meet lots of new friends who are excited about sharing the Good News on their blogs.

6. A few minutes ago, Todd sent me a text that he was listening to an old Trisha Yearwood song on our classic country radio station. We’ve both been loving the classic country station lately. He reminded me of a story I told him about when I was in the 3rd grade, and I called in to our local country station to request Trisha Yearwood’s “She’s In Love With The Boy.” I loved that song so much! And I listened to the radio all day waiting to hear my request.

7. I love that my husband remembers this story.

8. Sometimes it’s really weird to think that I lived most of my life without knowing him at all. Isn’t that incredible? It’s just a reminder to me to pray for my boys and their future spouses every single day. And the parents who are raising them.

9. Sorry to get derailed and emotional.

10. My 30th birthday is in less than two months!

11. I’ve developed a lactose intolerance in my old age. This is very sad. I have been eating dairy without worrying too much about it, but I always feel awful afterward. I have to stop doing that. I’m really going to miss ice cream. And cheese. It’s a good thing I like almond milk.

12. Today I said to Hudson, “I’m impressed!” And he said, “No, you’re Erin.”

13. Yes, he calls me Erin almost as much as he calls me Mommy. (Now I’m singing Call Me Maybe.)

I, too, deal with lactose intolerance and don’t always avoid dairy completely because I want extra cheese. Or an ice cream cone. Or whatever. And then I’m miserable and swear I won’t do that again, until…

And yes to #8. I think about that all the time, how I’ve only know my husband for a fraction of my life. I pray that my children find wonderful, supportive spouses as well.

Love your catch up posts! I have recenlty developed a lactose intolerance too. If i eat dairy I break out and have a horrible stomach ache. It really is the worst, I’ve always loved all forms of dairy.

I’m sure 100 people are going to say this, but have you tried Lactaid? It really worked for me.

PLL is my guilty pleasure show too 🙂 I try watching it while folding laundry, but then I realize I’ve been standing absolutely still holding my breath.

Oh dear, I know how hard being lactose free is because I did it for my son while nursing! Everything has milk in it. Hope you are able to just skip the big dairy stuff! I used to LOVE that song too and that is so cute that your husband remembers. My little guy almost 14 months is not talking much either. You will have to let us know how it goes with speech therapy. I might look into it for Henry!

Hayes is way to young to be in speech therapy. Give him time!!! My daughter didn’t say a word until she was over 2, she just wasn’t ready yet. But once she started talking, she never stopped and recently started law school on a full scholarship. Give your boy time and stop pushing him to do something he isn’t ready to do.

      Hey Lauren,

I’m not pushing him. 🙂 With his chronic ear infections at such a young age, his ENT and his pediatrician recommended him for South Carolina’s Baby Net program. He’s second born and he never babbled during months 8-10. They hoped he would have a couple of words, but he also has some actual issues to overcome with his jaw that we’ve known about for some time. With free, state-funded programs and early intervention, we’re happy we can try to help correct some of these things so he can begin to try to speak. They told me it could be a long road with him. I know he will do it eventually. But I can tell he is frustrated, and after lots of evaluation with doctors and therapists this was the recommendation. Thank you for your feedback. 🙂 I hope that in 21 years he is pursuing his dreams, and maybe even following in his daddy’s footsteps.

So glad I have you as a my PLL buddy to text back and forth with 🙂

Also….that’s my very favorite Trisha Yearwood song! Let’s add it to our road trip play list!

Now you’ve got that song in my head. I loved that Trisha Yearwood song too, but I was not in third grade. I would listen to the song on my CD until I got all the lyrics. Good times!

I have been so encouraged by your posts lately and am excited to see the way God uses you and this blog to reach even more people for His glory. I babysit a little boy who is a little over 2 and still not talking but clearly understands and is a smart little guy… and I wish sooo badly that he had speech therapy, so I hope that it is a blessing for you and Hayes. I’m sure he’s every bit as sharp as his big brother, and just being helped to get those words out will surely alleviate so much frustration for him! Anyway… thanks for sharing again!!

Hi friend!! I’ve been reading, but just not a lot of time to comment….so I’ll use this to catch up. Your boys are getting more adorable each day. I LOVE the post on Hudson’s first football game-him walking in that little hat KILLED me. An awesome Bible study sounds like just what I need. Hudson calling you Erin is hilarious. Carsyn calls me Jensie when she gets mad at me or really wants my attention.

I missed you the few days you were gone! I tell you all the time you were the first blog I ever read and I’ll miss you if you shut it down 🙁 Just promise me you’ll email me pictures of your boys and their funny stories, ok?

And your gamecocks have an easy game Saturday…please take it easy on our poor cats…we are STRUGGLING.

Erin, I too (at the ripe old age of 26!) have developed a lactose intolerance. I made the switch to almond milk, and like it a lot. So getting rid of milk wasn’t a big sacrifice for me. I have also found that, as long as I eat the cheese/ice cream in moderation (i.e. one or the other, one or less times a day) I can still eat what I like without feeling bad. Also, I started taking probiotics on a daily basis and that helps immensely. Maybe that could help you too! And, thanks for sharing that sweet story about your husband. Y’all are so cute:)

You can still have ice cream: http://www.sodeliciousdairyfree.com/products/coconut-milk-ice-creams?gclid=CL_R8ruv2LICFQQGnQodyxkALw

I love this stuff and they have a lot of really good flavors!

I’ve been severely lactose intolerant (like really can’t eat ANY dairy at all) and honestly you get used to it. Between rice milk and almond milk and greek yogurt (which is very lactose intolerant friendly and good for cooking) I can make almost everything I really want.

I’m so glad you are going back to the basics! I love reading about your family! When my now 6 year old was 2 or 3 she started calling me “Mom”. I wasn’t ready to be “Mom” so I told her that was half of my name. The other half of my name was “ma”. So, when she called me “Mom”, I called her “Sara”. The catch is her name is Sara Beth. It worked and at 6 I am still “Momma” or “Mommy”!!!
