Wednesday confessions

1. I took a nap yesterday. The shame! In my defense, it only lasted about 15 minutes, but I just had to close my eyes.

2. The paleo diet consumes my thoughts and all I can think about is how badly I want sugar. I may start twitching soon.

3. I guess I forgot to mention that I’m back at trying paleo. The 4:00 daily headache was really getting on my nerves, so I decided to completely deprive myself of all that is wonderful in the world of food. But it’s okay. So far, I like what I’m able to eat.

4. I’ve start wondering about silly things like…. If our house isn’t sold by Christmas, will we still decorate for Christmas? Do buyers want to see someone’s Christmas decorations?

5. Clearly, I need bigger things to worry about.

6. We have become Scrabble addicts. I see Scrabble tiles when I close my eyes at night.

7. Our big coffee pot is in storage and we’re only using the Keurig now while the house is on the market. But this morning we were out of K-cups. Not good, friends. I need my coffee.

8. Coffee is my paleo exception. I give myself a pass on this one, as long as I have a paleo-approved breakfast.

9. Another silly thing to worry about… Hudson’s first experience at Williams-Brice Stadium is this weekend. Should he wear a jersey or a Gamecock polo? Todd is all about the jersey, but we don’t have one.

10. I miss my college girlfriends terribly. Girls, if you’re reading, expect a phone call from me this weekend. I’ll try to make sure Hudson and Hayes are asleep so they don’t start screaming as soon as I dial your number. (How does that always happen, by the way? I can remember my mom saying that every time she got on the phone, my brother and I started fighting.)

11. I’ve gotten so bad about taking pictures of the every day stuff. I’m excited that Crist and I have a date with our photographer friend Brooke, so we can get more confident behind the camera. But I just forget to grab the camera. This is why my blog has been lacking so much in pictures lately.

12. This is not so much a confession, but just something that made us crack up laughing this morning. I was singing this One Mizzou song/commercial that we heard while watching the Missouri vs. Georgia game on Saturday. I’m singing it while fixing Hudson’s breakfast, “One Mizzou, one Mizzou.”

Hudson says, “The zoo’s closed, mommy!”

Silly boy!

Toodles, Poodles! Happy Wednesday, friends!

Oh, man! That “One Mizzou” song was so cheesy but also catchy. We were singing it afterward, too. Love the “The zoo is closed.” bahaha

  2. Ashley says

Okay, I’ve been a lurker forever, but I have to comment today:
    1) I’m a Mizzou grad and we all hate that song/commercial. Our gameday ad last year had Jon Hamm in it. This year? A cheesy jingle.
    2) When I went to college, my mom would tell people “Oh, my daughter is going to Mizzou” People would always say “The zoo? They have a school there?!” and she’d have to correct them (St. Louis has a very big, well known Zoo, so I guess it was natural that’s what people would think since that’s where we live).
    3) Once I graduated, I got a job at the zoo. So my mom would tell people “My daughter is working in HR at the Zoo.” And they’d go “Oh, she got a job at her alma mater, how neat!”.
Tricky things. So Hudson isn’t the only one who mixes up the Mizzou and THE zoo. 🙂

Hey Ashley! Thanks for commenting today! 🙂 I am cracking up right now. My husband and I thought the video footage in the Missouri commercial was great, but the song was catchy, but kind of cheesy. But we’ve been singing it all week! So funny that other people say “the zoo” too! 🙂

  3. says

You are the second person that I’ve heard not having their coffee today. But the other person’s Keurig died on them…..so it could be worse I guess. LOL I would definitely do the Christmas tree at least even if the house is still on the market. People might thing you are weird and anti-holiday if you didn’t LOL. I probably wouldn’t drag all the holiday decorations out though if it were me.

Jennifer, absolutely not bad at all! It sounds wonderful! When I was pregnant with Hayes and Hudson had just moved to his big boy bed, I’d nap with him every Saturday. It was glorious. 😉

  4. Stephanie says

It is, of course, in my best interest that Mizzou win this weekend, but I’m still annoyed with them from this past weekend, and I feel like they haven’t earned their SEC rights yet, so … Go Gamecocks! (I, too, obviously need bigger things to worry about, ha!)

  5. says

I totally think you should decorate for Christmas! We had our house on the market during the holidays last year, still decorated, and a week after Christmas were under contract after two years of trying to sell- hang in there, it will sell 🙂

  6. Marcie says

I have also been trying the Paleo diet. I just ordered the book Practical Paleo. I totally fell off the wagon today and had a piece of pie for my daughter’s first birthday! I used her birthday as my excuse.

  7. says

Hi Erin! That’s awesome you’re trying the Paleo diet, my husband and I have been eating Paleo since February and absolutely love it! (Granted, we’re not super strict about it…we eat Paleo at home during the week, but then we tend to indulge when we travel/on the weekends…so we probably only eat about 70% Paleo) One of my favorite treats are Luna and Larry Dark Chocolate Coconut Bliss Bars…they taste like a fudgesicle, but they are made with organic coconut milk and agave nectar, so they’re definitely Paleo-friendly! (you can find out more about them here: http://coconutbliss.com/coconut-bliss-products/dark-chocolate-bars) I got them at my local natural foods store, and Whole Foods probably sells them as well…they are a little pricey, but they’re so good! I’m also in the process of putting together a Paleo page for my blog with some of my favorite recipes and resources…I should probably have that up by the end of the week! xoxo

  8. September says

Unless you’ve done the jersey thing before with Hudson I may skip it (especially if you’re buying one for the event). My son thinks they’re hot and itchy and won’t wear them.

So sorry your house still hasn’t sold. Just as a thought, but have you considered having a professional stager go through your house? You have a beautiful home and it’s perfectly decorated but they definitely take a different approach when staging a house to sell it vs. “staging” a house to live in. When we sold our house in NJ last year we had them completely go though our house; it ended up costing around $900 (I could have spent less, but I had them actually “do” the staging instead of taking their notes and doing it myself) but was worth every penny! We actually sold our house to the first people who walked through and they offered us over list price.

  9. September says

Oh, and God bless you on the Paleo diet! I lack any willpower whatsoever—I run 30 miles a week so I can eat anything and everything I want to (for me that’s the “easy” way out).

  10. Allison says

I recently did an elimination diet, and sugar was one of the things I had to eliminate. It’s so hard to quit sugar, but absolutely do-able. I would caution against cheating, though, if you’re really serious about getting sugar out of your life. The longer you stay away from it, the less you’ll want it (and this is coming from a girl who used to obsess about when she was going to get her next Coke, cookie, etc.). I drink something called Zevia (sweetened with stevia) as my Coke substitute.

  11. says

I wouldn’t worry about the Christmas decorations. My mom was a realtor for 25+ years and she said no one ever said anything about people’s decorations, mostly because she said the showings would really drop off between Thanksgiving and Christmas anyway. But she did say that one house she showed during the holidays, the people looking actually wanted to buy some of the decorations and put it in their offer!

  12. says

Oh man. I’m also trying to work up the courage to try the Paleo diet, but can’t decide if it will be harder or easier living in Guatemala. I think coffee will be an exception for me as well. I don’t think functioning in life will happen otherwise.

  13. says

A 15 minute nap!? Girl! when I lay down for a nap (which is usally at least 3-4 times a week) I sleep at LEAST an hour – sometimes two! Power naps do nothing for me and just make me grumpier than when I laid down! …granted I am 32 weeks preg and have a 2 year old so I am constantly worn out, but even when I am no preggo, I sleep for HOURS at a time!

  14. Beth says

Our house (also in downtown Columbia!) has been for sale for a while too, and I’m not exactly expecting that to change anytime soon. I’m going to decorate for Halloween and Christmas – surely that wouldn’t prevent someone from wanting the house? Plus, I think the slow home-selling season is November and December anyhow.

  15. rbs2 says

yes to the Christmas decs…i remember pictures of your wreaths/trees in the past and they look like what many would pay a decorator to come in and put up. and i would say no to a jersey…i’m not a big jersey fan anyway, but they are also pretty $$$ (why i do not know)–you could likely buy a polo and jonjon for the same price (obviously not worn together), and get more wear out of both the entire season 🙂

  16. says

I’m reading and i miss you like crazy. i so often want to just jump on aan airplane and come see you. i’m just going to have to make that happen one of these days. i love you friend and can’t wait to catch up! we will be in austin this weekend doing the 5k for pancreatic cancer on saturday. my mom and my DAD are doing it with us! he’s such a trooper 🙂 xxoo

  17. says

Go with the polo. You won’t regret him looking sharp. We took our 4 year old to his first game at Neyland Stadium (Go Vols!) this weekend and he looked so cute in his orange polo.

  18. says

I need to get back on the paleo train. I’ve fallen off and I can tell it’s making a difference in my day-to-day feelings…. and polo all the way! It’s classic!

  19. Catherine says

I’ve seen how you decorate, and YES you absolutely decorate for Christmas!! That might even attract them to your house more. The vast majority of residents in Columbia are Christians and will love to see your home done up right for the holidays. Just your luck, you will have a showing on the day you start to pull it all out. 🙂
Jerseys are hot and don’t breath (at least the ones for kids they sell). Polo or tshirt. Jerseys for cooler weather. (I know from experience. Hope it goes well!! Jason took Claytor Saturday…too hot and they only lasted first quarter, hopefully we fare better this weekend)

  20. Samantha says

    Hey Erin,

Im a long-time lurker, but thought I would comment today. I definitly think you should decorate for Christmas. My family moved around A LOT while I was growing up and one of my mother’s concerns with every home she has had is where she is going to place her Christmas tree. To this day, whenever I move (even into apartments in college and law school) one of her first questions is, “Do you know where you are going to put your Christmas tree?” LOL. Your home always looks beautiful for the holidays so there is really no downside to decorating it.

  21. Melissa says

Our across-the-street neighbors had their house on the market for 9 months. Nine long months! When Thanksgiving rolled around, they hauled out all of their Christmas decorations and did it up big. The wife said that after 9 months of keeping all surfaces free of clutter and “personal touches,” she was going a little nuts and wanted to feel at home in her home. A week later the house sold and the buyers asked to buy most of the non-personal holiday decor. The buyers said that seeing the home ready for Christmas showed how the home could be grand and homey at the same time!

  22. Laurin says

Decorate for Christmas! Don’t deprive yourself and the boys of such a beautiful time of year!
I don’t think it matters what Hudson wears to the game this weekend, as long as he’s dressed in Garnet and Black he will be perfect! Go Gamecocks! Beat UAB!

  23. CampDallas says

We sold our house a week before Christmas last year, and my husband will be the first to say that “HE WAS RIGHT!”…there was no need to drag the tree downstairs for the showing. They still offered! In a way, I think it really made our house extra cozy and inviting, so if necessary at that point because you haven’t sold, decorate!

I’m also turning 30 in a couple months. Cheers to us!
