Read, Build, & Win!

I am so excited about today’s review and giveaway! This review was really done by Hudson, so that’s what has me so excited. Hudson is in this really fun stage where he is just a sponge. He never stops talking. He loves hands-on activities and loves to make things. He loves to learn, and he especially loves to read!

Hudson and I were given the opportunity to review the new LEGO DUPLO Read & Build Set. LEGO DUPLO is introducing its new line of Read & Build products. These sets come with bricks (or LEGOs) that allow preschool aged kids like Hudson to engage with the book storyline in a hands on way, which helps them learn to read.

The set comes in a box with a sturdy board book and twelve bricks. Hudson absolutely loves books and he loves to build things. He is constantly stacking things and using LEGO bricks at home. So I knew he would get so excited about this set!

He immediately wanted to start putting things together using the bricks, so I started reading the book to him. The story was about a girl named Penny and a boy named Joe. Penny needed an airplane, and the story told us how to put together the airplane. It shows you the picture of all the different bricks you need and how to put them together.

It was so simple that Hudson was able to figure out how to do it by himself. And he was so very excited that he built something that looked exactly like what he saw in the book! He kept walking around showing everyone the picture of the airplane in the book and showing us that he made one that looked just like it.

Then we built the car for Joe. Hudson kept wanting to play with the airplane and the car, but he only wanted to play with them if we could read the book at the same time. I’m excited that Hudson is learning more and more about reading. He recognizes some sight words and has learned all of his phonics over the last year. It’s fun to show him new ways to learn to read, so I’m really happy that LEGO DUPLO has introduced this new product line to help engage kids with reading.

I think this would be great for the little 3 year old I nanny. He would love to sit and learn how to build something while reading … perfect combination, especially for boys that I feel are left out sometimes of the fun learning toys!

This would be a GREAT tool, what an amazing idea! Preschoolers love building things and my little guy is obsessed with reading. i love that he can follow along with the pictures in the book and then learn the story as well. 4. Carrie says

My son would love this! He loves books and at two is already memorizing words and phrases of his favorite books. I think this activity would make him realize words mean something and help him start understanding how to read. Will definitely put these on our Christmas list!

I don’t have kids yet. But my best friends lil one Cooper already loves to read at 16 months. Well loves us to read to him. We bought him books even before he was born so he has a nice collection started. I know he would love to read a book and have a toy that looks like the characters in the story to play along with. He has one of the bears that says his name and reads along with a story. That’s one of his favorites. This is such a neat idea.

  6. Juliene says

These are a great idea. My husband and I both looved Legos as children and have the ones web played with then to pass to our son. These would be great to help those unruly boys sit and follow directions.

  7. Cami says

My son is 18 months old. He is just starting to follow extremely basic, one word instructions. I love this as a teaching tool for him. Cool product!

  8. Lindsey says

My 2 year Les loves Legos! It’s hard to get him to sit still for a boo so he’d love to build along while we read!

  9. says

I know my son Andrick will be a lego kid because his uncle (my brother) was a lego fanatic and has already bought Andrick his first set of legos. Andrick is just 2 months old, so we’re waiting a bit to give him those. But I love the idea of pairing legos and reading!

  10. Heather says

My 2 1/2 year old is learning to read right now! She is starting to recognize things in the picture, so this would help get some hands on practice! Thank you!

This is great because it makes reading a more active playful thing, and an enjoyment of building things links to reading, so as to encourage a child to enjoy reading. Win win! Great for a 3 year old, I would think.

We’re huge Lego enthusiasts so this is a no brainer for us. Our boys love building with the bricks. I’m sure they would be even more excited to build as they read. And associating actions with words seems like it would be a great reenforcement tool. Way to go, Lego!

  17. Marci says

We LOVE Lego building sets at our house! What we love so much about Lego products is they appeal to all ages. Our daughter and son both love to build with Lego sets. I am excited about the new build and read set … having a story book to accompany the set is such a great idea! Hooray to Lego for creating such a great product for the younger age group!

Thatcher would go nuts for this! Even if I don’t win, I may have to buy that for him – he loves trucks and cars and anything that moves, and he also loves to read. I imagine it’s great for their hand/eye coordination and also identifying objects in a book while also seeing it in person. Way cool!

  22. Jen says

My little boy would adore these blocks!! This would be his first set of Legos. What a fun and creative way to get started!

  23. Sara Brown says

I have seen the commercial for these! They look amazing! I am a huge reader, and want my little boy to be one as well. He loves reading and holding something (ie stuffed Hungry Caterpillar when we are reading that book) so this would be great to encourage him to keep reading to know how to make the car/plane! So cute!!

  24. Jessica Blocker says

This is the perfect combination for my son Jackson. His favorite things in the world are reading and building. H loves pull books out for me to read to him while he sits on the floor and builds towers from legos and building blocks, basically anything he can build is a good way to keep him interested. He is just now taking more of an interest in what is on the pages and this would be a great first step on the life long road to reading. What a great idea!

  25. Shannon says

I just saw the commercial for these yesterday, what a great product! My daughter is 2.5, loves reading and playing blocks, so to put them together would be great!

  27. Leslie says

My little guy is 3 and has a big love for Legos and books. This combo would be great for him. He loves to build but isn’t quite ready for the next level of Legos so this would be perfect for him to build and follow the book (just like the big kid Legos Daddy has.)

  28. Angela says

This is the cutest thing. I want to go to the store right now and buy one. My daughter loves to build things and loves books. This is like two of her favorites coming together. Even if I don’t win I will be buying this product.

  29. Laura says

My 3 year old would love this! He is really into legos right now and also loves reading. I can’t wait until he is able to start reading on his own.

  30. says

My son is still young, but he is already so physical and so into blocks and building that I think these would be a very helpful way to turn his play into a way of learning.

  31. says

What a neat contest. I love readying blogs of parents who’s kids are just slightly older than mine so I know what’s around the corner. My almost 2 year old plays with his ‘legos’ everyday and loves building TALL TALL towers. I think these build and learn books would help him learn how to build actually ‘things’ that he already recognizes and also learn what those words look like. Can’t wait to see them in stores!

  32. Natosha Zachary says

My son loves books and Duplo blocks. These sets would make learning to read so much fun. What a great idea.

This looks so fun! Our boys would love it! We have a 3-1/2 year old and a 9 month old. They both love books…our older son loves reading them and our little guy loves to eat them. LOL! I love the idea of pairing building blocks with reading books. Busying the hands and stimulating the mind simultaneously is just a win win all the way around. What a great idea LEGO!

This looks awesome! I think my little girl would love it. What a great idea, to combine building toys with a story book.

  35. says

This is great! Layken is 20 months and Gunner is 7. Big brother would happily read to sissy and assist her in putting it together. Sounds like wonderful sibling bonding!

  36. SarahN says

My nephew would absolutely love this. He is the perfect age for it and would love building things. Plus, his birthday is coming up!

  37. Jennifer Z. says

My three year old son would love this! He loves to read and build – combining the two would amaze him!

  38. Heather says

I thinks this is BRILLIANT! I love legos and think the addition of a book/story as the instructions is great. My nephew is turning two and I’m going to find these for him for his birthday. I haven’t thought of anything I really wanted to get him and didn’t want just another toy. Yes, I’m the aunt that has to have the ‘educational’ part of the gift.
I can’t wait till my baby girl is ready to play with Legos/Duplos!

  39. says

Wow, what a great product! I think the LEGO DUPLO Read & Build will help my kids learn to read with all those fun colors block building and interaction. For sure this is a lot more fun than just reading the book.

  46. Brooke says

My son loves this idea and has from the moment he first saw it. I would hope this would help with word recognition the more we played.

  47. Brett Emerson says

This could help my child learn to read by engaging them in an activity that helps them truly interact with the text, by way of the building blocks. Very cool product!

  48. Trisha B says

I think that when a child is doing something they enjoy doiing like building, they are able to learn easier.

  49. says

My child is only 1 and doesn’t read yet but he already loves the big legos. I think this would be a lot of fun for him to do down the road : )

  50. Heather Lovell says

My son absolutely LOVES legos. I think the key to learning is engaging the child, capturing their attention, working with their imagination. I think the Lego Duplo Read and Build, would be fun for my son. And when your having fun, learning is easy. Incorporating something he loves, likes legos, and adding in books (which he loves), would be a great tool to helping my son polish up his reading skills. This would be wonderful!

  51. says

With our little guy, LEGO Duplo’s Read and Build kits would hopefully help him slow down as he looks through a book. He loves to turn pages and often misses content because he’s so enamored with “how a book works.” These kits would provide the incentive to actually read (have us read to him) and build the creation alongside it.

  52. Gina M says

I think it will help my son with reading because he will be able to connect the pictures and what he can build with what the book is talking about.

Thanks for the chance to win!

  54. Jeffrey says

Both my boys love Legos. I saved my sets from when I was younger and they play with those also. Lego Duplo Read and Build is an excellent idea for kids that are interested and reading and definitely for those that aren’t. My oldest has fun putting together Lego sets using the instructions and making things off the top of his head. Legos in general are a great learning tool.

  55. Jennifer Hansen says

My daughter is absolutely obsessed with Legos – we are hoping to go to Legoland later this fall with her. jenniferlynnhansen at yahoo dot com

  56. Nivedita says

My daughter loves Lego Duplo’s more than the normal sized Lego’s as she finds it easy to handle. Plus she is interested in buliding things with the Duplo’s. For someone who has just started following directions , i am sure the Read and Build will help in enhancing her skills !!!!

  57. maria cantu says

The kids already love legos so this will be very exciting to see them having fun and learning at the same time.

  58. Tabathia B says

I think since it’s an interactive book with pictures demonstrating how to use the blocks and how to build that it would help with reading and learning

    tbarrettno1 at gmail dot com

  59. Betty C says

I love the idea of combining reading with Legos. My children always wanted to do things themselves without Mom and Dad and this encourages them to see just how to accomplish that.
