back home again…

We’ve moved our simple summer fun to the great state of Indiana.

The boys and I left yesterday morning and drove (with my mom’s help) to my parents’ house in Indiana. Todd didn’t get to come with us because he has so much going on with work right now. But we’re excited about being away for some grandparent fun.

I thought we might get a reprieve from the heat, but it’s just as hot, if not hotter, here than it is in South Carolina. I’m pretty sure the whole United States is suffering with this weather right now. (If you live somewhere that is unseasonably cool right now be sure to let me know how much you’re enjoying your chilly temps! I’ll be so jealous!)

So we endured a 12 hour road trip, and everyone did great. We’re just excited to be here! I see lots of reading, hopefully a decent amount of writing, and just some nice relaxation happening over these next couple of weeks.

We stopped for lunch at a Cracker Barrel outside of Asheville, NC. Hayes had his first biscuit experience. Β He was in heaven. He gets it from his mama.

P.S. Just a little opinion to express… Before we left town yesterday morning, I saw Ann Curry say goodbye on the Today Show. It was so sad to me. I hate that she was able to see all the gossip and horrible things said about her. And I just hate it when I know that someone is embarrassed and their feelings are hurt. I wasn’t the biggest fan of Ann in that role. I actually loved her at the news desk and think she’s a fantastic reporter. But, gosh, as a woman I just felt awful for her. And I just don’t think anyone should be treated that way. I love the Today Show and I especially love Matt. I hope they think long and hard before naming Ann’s replacement.

Amen Sister! You know my opinions as well, but I was in tears watching her good bye. I know she will do great things reporting what she’s good at, and I’ll be watching, it just never seemed to click on Today. It seems as if Savannah has already stepped in. Hope you are enjoying some time with your Momma! Love you!

Have never commented before, but read for a long time. I totally agree with you with regard to Ann Curry. It felt awful to watch. Reports are that the replacement will be named today-ratings rule! Sad.
Enjoy your vacation with the kids:)

I felt so bad for Ann too… The today show handled that situation completely wrong in my opinion. And supposedly Savannah Guthrie is her replacement – and I really don’t think she is the answer either. I too loved Ann when she was the “news girl” – too bad she couldn’t just move back to that (although that would be awkward). I really like Natalie Morales too and honestly thought a year ago she would be a better anchor, but felt like Ann deserved it if someone was promoted from within. At the end of the day though, she’s getting a pretty good pay day for leaving πŸ™‚

    Have fun in Indiana πŸ™‚

Totally agree about Ann! My husband even commented that they didn’t even give her a proper send off…no sweet montage after 15 years on TODAY! Very upset with how NBC handled this.

Totally agree with you about Ann- I felt awful for you. I know she had such a hard week and I am hoping she has some wonderful things coming in her future.

It is a cool 62 degree’s here in Scotland! Bliss!! It doesn’t get much hotter than this…but oh well!

I have no idea what the Ann Curry thing is about, but I’m checking it out now. Obviously we don’t have NBC abroad. But, now I need to know what’s going on!

The Pacific Northwest isn’t suffering from the heat… It’s in the 60’s and cloudy in Seattle, and I’m SO ready for summer to arrive!

I, too, agree about Ann Curry. Sad how many women I heard bashing her.

I feel the same way about Ann. My heart broke for her. It’s so unfair that the drama and gossip surrounding the change put a dark cloud above the transition.

Have a WONDERFUL time in Indiana! There’s nothing like some quality grandparent time!!! πŸ™‚

I agree completely with your comments on Ann Curry. My mom and I have both always admired her classiness as well as her calm, collected demeanor. It seems many people – both inside and outside of the executives at NBC – have forgotten the simple “If you don’t have anything nice to say about someone, don’t say anything at all” idea. If they felt she didn’t fit the role she was in, they could have moved her out of it in a much kinder, respectful way. It seemed their goal all along was to make her feel ashamed and personally responsible for the show’s drop in ratings. I wish her happiness and all the best in the future. Go, Ann Curry!

Oddly enough, those are my EXACT feelings about Ann and her good-bye. Really think she’s a terrific journalist, and she did a fantastic job at the news desk, but when it comes to the fluff-stuff, it’s just not “her.” And, that may be a compliment, to be honest. I felt awful for her, and hope the best for her. I think her new position will be better-suited for her, and ratings won’t be her biggest enemy in this new placement, at least. I personally hope they give the anchor position to Natalie, but I do like Savannah as well…

I watched a clip of Ann Curry leaving, and I’m not even a fan of the Today Show, but the whole situation made me sick. I felt like she was mistreated in a big way. I really feel sorry for her.

On a happier note, have a great time in Indiana, and yes, it’s hot everywhere. I mean Texas is always hot in June, but 108??? No thank you.

Does your mom fly out to then travel with you guys? My mom’s parents lived 12 hours from us and we only saw them a couple times a year growing up. I think it’s great that you’re so close to your parents that you see each other so often, spend lots of time together, etc. It’s important for your kids to see their grandparents a lot or else they won’t have a very close relationship with them, and I think that’s sad!

As fa as Ann Curry, I completely agree with you. I liked her better at the news desk and didn’t like her so much as a co-host, but no matter who you are, gossip and negative comments about you are horrible. I feel so bad for her as a person because I’m sure that really hurt her.

I live in Oregon where we seem to have missed the heat wave. Yesterday was 68 and drizzly. Our summer never seems to really start until early-mid July. Usually I don’t mind but the torental rain during the olympic trials Monday evening was no-bueno!

Have fun at home. I think having grandparents around to help with the baby is so relaxing.

There hasn’t been a summer here in Brussels at all. Maybe a couple of warm sunny days but mostly cold and rainy. It has been really depressing but having lived in DC I know hot weather is horrible too. I think I should move somewhere it is permenantly 75 degrees…

  15. Kelsey says

It’s horrible here in Seattle! Cloudy/Rainy/60 degrees. I just want summer to come already. I am jealous of you!

I agree, Ann was great on the news desk, but I didnt’ like her on the couch at all! She was too much Hmmm, yes…..tell me more. I think Savannah was a great choice!

I live in sweltering hot north Texas but I’m about to be jetting up to Seattle to visit my bestie. She told me to leave my shorts and tank tops at home and to pack jeans and a hoodie. In July. My brain does not compute.

Thank you for expressing your opinion on Ann Curry – I feel the same way. She did NOTHING wrong and must be so hurt. I really feel for her and for other “celebrities” who go through stuff like this. Can’t we all just BE NICE???

I’m in awe of you and a 12 hr road trip with two kiddos! That’s awesome!

And I agree 100% with what you wrote about Ann Curry. I just love her, and did actually think she was better at the news desk. But you just don’t treat someone that way. She is so classy and I hate that she had to leave that way. I have so much respect for her!
