a big random update

1. I’ve finished Season 1 of Parenthood and I’m almost finished with Season 2. After so many of you suggested I add Lorelei Gilmore to my list of Best TV Moms, I’m starting Gilmore Girls. But I can only watch those on actual DVDs. Come on, Netflix Instant! It’s time to have everything available for us to watch. I’ve also added Brothers and Sisters to my Netflix Instant queue. Thanks for all of your suggestions a few weeks ago!

2. Crist and I had our first joint personal training session on Tuesday morning. It actually went well. But it didn’t start off on the right foot. Literally. It was 5:30 a.m. and we were running outside and doing lunges in the dark. All of a sudden Crist said, “Watch out for that hole.” And about two seconds later I was on the ground. I can’t believe I fell that hard and didn’t hurt my ankle. My palm was a tiny bit skinned up, but no big whoop. But I was laughing because I’m sure our sweet trainer was thinking how awful it was that she got stuck with the klutzy client! We survived the training session.

3.We had our second personal training session this morning at 5:30 and it was great. I don’t love it or anything, but I really like our trainer and I can absolutely feel that it’s working. I’m very sore, but it makes me feel better about bathing suit season approaching.

4. I’m going to be starting a new weekly thing on my blog where I do a review of the week and highlight a different blog I’m reading every week. I’m excited to share some of my favorite things and people with you on a regular basis!

5. Did y’all see the SMASH finale? Oh my goodness. How awesome is Katharine McPhee? #TeamKaren

6. Are y’all watching The Bachelorette with Emily Maynard. I just watched it last night on the DVR. I haven’t watched a season of the Bachelor/Bachelorette since Brad’s season with Emily. But I like Emily, so I think I’ll watch this time. Poor Todd has to put up with another season of this junk.

6. We had Hudson’s last day of school yesterday. I’m so thankful for everything that has happened this year as a result of him attending his preschool. Hudson made some wonderful friends and so did I. Here he is saying the blessing before their end of the year party. Sweet thing.

7. At Hudson’s school party yesterday, there were about 3 little siblings toddling around the room. Hayes spent most of his time sneaking bites off of the big kids’ plates with his buddy. I love all of these kids so much– and their mommies.

8. Yesterday in my post about letting go of the to-do list, I said that “quiet time is non-negotiable.” I think some people thought I meant having my own personal “nap time” or just hanging out on the couch. When I say “quiet time” I mean my devotional time. Sorry for that confusion.

9. I need a pedicure in the worst possible way. Except I don’t really love pedicures. I love that they polish and shape my toenails, but I’m so horribly ticklish, that I am just on edge through the entire pedicure waiting for the moment when she scrubs the bottom of my foot. I just don’t relax. But I do really need a pedicure and some pretty Cajun Shrimp on my toes.

10. I love this shirt. I just love solid navy right now. Maybe the Anthropologie fairy will deliver this shirt to my doorstep?

11. Today we’re just going to hang out, watch Peter Pan (I just ordered this one the other day since it was the last one we didn’t have, and I’m super excited to introduce Hudson to it. He is obsessed with every Disney movie), go run around the park, and go for a walk. I got up early so I could get “my stuff” done. Todd and I have a date night tonight–we’re going to see Grease! at the Town Theater, so when the boys nap this afternoon, I’ll be getting all spiffed up!

12. Also! I took this picture yesterday as a joke to send to my friend, Nina. I opened my package from Bridier Baubles and found this fun koozie. And that’s a a Diet Coke in there, not a Coor’s Light! Ha! (oh yeah, totally didn’t follow through with my New Year’s resolution to give up the Diet Coke.)

13. Today is the first day of summer for us! Exciting stuff!

I looked at the bridier baubles site after seeing you tweet about it… Such great stuff!! Thanks for the suggestion!

Yes I am watching Emily — I tried to stay away but I’m too interested in her story as a single mom and I can’t.stop.watching. After I saw the men I told my husband she’d have better luck finding a hubby in the tampon aisle of Walmart, but I’m holding out hope that I’m wrong 🙂 BTW I am dying over that picture of Hudson saying Grace–nothing in this world is more precious!!

  3. KBgrits says

I should watch Parenthood. Gilmore Girls was my favorite show when it was on television – my mom and I used to watch it when I was in high school and then my roommates and I watched it every week in college. It’s a good-feeling show – you’ll like it.

Smash finale – no words. Love Karen!

And, that shirt is beautiful. It would look fab with your white jeans. 😉 Treat yourself!

  4. Julia says

Sometimes pedicure places will do a “polish change” for like $5.(at least in small town america they do!) So you should ask if you can have them shaped and painted for a discount. I like to do that when I’m feeling cheap, because I get my nails painted and feel pampered, but I too hate the people rubbing and scrubbing my feet. So do an at home pedi to make your feet all nice and soft and then pay someone else to do the nails!

I’m so sad that Smash is over for the season. I am so team Karen, how could you not be? The picture of Hudson saying the blessing is just the cutest thing! Have a great weekend 🙂

  6. says

I love Parenthood but totally missed out on SMASH, which I really wanted to see. I’m actually loving Revenge. I can’t wait for Parenthood to come back on. Those kiddos are too cute! I’m the same way about pedicures, I’m so ticklish it’s almost painful.

  7. says

I’ve got Cajun Shrimp on my toes right now – it’s a fave! And totally know what you mean about pedicures… I have the same ticklish problem:) Ever since you mentioned the Disney vault a while ago, my husband and I have been picking up the movies as they come out so that one day our kids can enjoy them. Not sure if the boys would be into it, but Cinderella is coming out in October. The Rescuers and Aristocats are supposed to be coming out around then too – bet the boys would love those – if you don’t already have them!:)

  8. Eve says

Gilmore Girls is THE BEST!!!! I own all the seasons on DVD, and watch them while on the treadmill. The writing is superb, and Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel do a wonderful job. Sometimes amazon or iTunes will do a massive sale on seasons, so if you get desperate waiting for a disc, see if amazon will hook you up for like $15;-).

    Enjoy summer!

  9. says

I’m watching the Bachelorette this season too, Emily seems so sweet!!

My sis is uber tickelish too and isn’t a fan of pedi’s! I on the other hand, LOVE them!!

Happy 1st day of summer for you guys 🙂

  10. September says

I do my toes at home…it’s more of a “shape and polish” thing but (a) I hate pedicures! (b) when you run 30-40 miles/week your toes are just mangy and pedicures last all of about a week tops, and (c) due to point B, the last time I went for a real pedi the Vietnamese ladies were all pointing at and laughing at my feet; it scarred me for life. I’ve actually gotten really good at painting them and from 3-4 ft away they’re fine. I probably should buck up and go, though, we leave for HI in two weeks and I know I’ll want them done.

  11. says

Team Karen all the way I am so glad she didn’t back down and let Ivy have her way!!!! It gave me chills! Hope ya’ll have a great summer and I LOVE that top too!

  12. says

LOL I seriously can’t live without pedicures. I know its silly, but having pretty toes makes me feel pretty all over. Even if I’m actually a sweaty, limp mess. Also – please oh please explain to me how you get into shows like the Bachelor / Bachelorette. I don’t get it and I need someone to explain this.

  13. says

I am SOO excited for you to start Brother’s and Sister’s!!!!! I know you will fall in love with the Walker family and Nora Walker will be on your TV mom list next year 🙂

  14. Becky says

I’m also mid way through Parenthood (Via instant Netflix). I’m obsessed. And Hubby and I are watching Brother and Sisters together. We just started the last season and I hate it. I hate the turns they’ve taken in this last season. So mad. (and I can’t stand Nora Walker…she’s my nightmare. I tell Hubby all the time – I do not want to turn into Nora Walker) Ha.

Yep – watching Emily. Of course. LOVE her. Excited to see how it goes.

  15. says

I’m laughing out loud, thinking of all the ladies your post and getting all worked up because they think you need non-negotiable nap time. HAHAHA Love you 🙂

  16. Megan F says

Cajun Shrimp is my mother’s favorite! Her girl did my fingernails when I was home a few weeks ago, and all she could talk about was my mom and her Cajun Shrimp toes!

Weird comment, I know, but seeing that put a smile on my face! Happy Friday!

  17. says

You will get through that pedicure!! you’ve had two babies.. you can do it you can do it 😉
I am so proud to hear you are working out with a trainer. I know you haven’t talked about it much but you blogged about working out and getting in shape in the NY and from your pictures it is obvious that you are doing it!! Also, I know you talk about getting up early to work out a lot. Early morning work outs are the best way to start the day. Good for your Erin!! Please blog about your progress, it helps the rest of us! xo

  18. step moMster says

how do you get up and work out at 5:30? i’m often up at 5:30 (usually worrying), but i’m definitely not active then. you are a rock star. i’m super ticklish too and squirm so much. i have a pedicure appointment scheduled for tomorrow afternoon with a dear friend of mine – it’s my birthday present to her. i’m excited to have catch up time and pampering all rolled into one. i must check out this cajun shrimp color.

    have a great weekend!

  19. says

I need to hop on board the Bridier Baubles train but everything thing I want is always sold out. Ha ha!

I just got a pedi this morning…I’m ticklish, too. But, during the warm months, Cajun Shrimp is ALWAYS on my toes!! 🙂

  20. says

I thought I was the only one with such ticklish feet by the way the ladies look at me when I squirm in my seat!

I always ask them to skip that part, but my feet must be so awful that they just can’t resist doing it a little.

  21. says

I absolutely LOVE Smash. And I’m Team Karen all the way (and not just because my name is Karen too lol). Pedicures are my summer indulgence, I try to go for one at least once a month during the summer.

  22. says

Welcome to the Parenthood Fan Club!! I’ve gotten atleast two of my girlfriends hooked on it too! Can’t wait for this next season…. I’m a few episodes behind on Smash, but now I’m looking forward to the finale!
The Bachelorette is one of my guilty pleasures, so I’ll def be watching…Is it just me or does Emily seem older than 26? Maybe it’s how well she carries herself but I kept thinking that all the guys seemed too young for her!!

  23. says

Even if you did mean a QT of just sitting on the couch-that is not necessarily a bad thing. My chiro told me that I need to build in a rest period each day or I am going to ruin my back with stress. And let me tell you, it is very hard for me to take time to just sit and read, when I can see so many things that could be done.

  24. Becky says

So surprised/impressed you are able to watch all these shows! I’m sure it’s not in one long stretch, but still! I am onto the Bachelorette this season, too, but that’s about all I can handle keeping up with for the next couple months once summer hits. It’s a good thing Revenge is almost over except I’m sooooo gonna miss it! I’ll be counting the weeks till it returns in the fall and PRAY they don’t have those long lapses with it like they did this past year.

  25. says

Team Karen all the way! I usually can’t stay up that late to catch shows that start at 10 during the school week but I love SMASH!

    Have a great week!

  26. says

Ok – 2 things – first – Hayes in the picture trying to steal food – presh! And second – i found BB thru your blog and am in LOVE with her stuff! I ordered the Coco Necklace in the ocean color – and she sent a pair of earrings as a ‘little something extra’ – so cute!!! So – thanks for that! Ha!

  27. says

Great job on working out! I was I had the determination to work out early. I know where you’re coming from on the pedicure. I am so ticklish it’s not even funny! My sister and I have a manicure/pedicure date tomorrow night and I can’t wait! We read the Little Golden Peter Pan to the boys for the first time a few weeks ago. I need to go ahead and order the DVD – I think they’d love it!

  28. Sarah O. says

I love Gilmore Girls and The Bachelorette. My poor husband has to suffer through them too. 😉
