why I deserve everything I want for Mother's Day

I don’t have a huge thing for Mother’s Day. I think it’s sweet, sure, but I don’t have big expectations for anything spectacular. I love the idea of honoring my mother, my mother-in-law and grandmother-in-law.

What do I want for Mother’s Day? I don’t want to cook, do dishes, or do laundry. I want to sit on the floor and play with my boys. I want to take a walk with my family. I want to spend time with my own mother. I’d really love a family nap. You know, the kind where we put the boys down and Todd and I both snooze on the couch while watching a movie on TBS that we’ve seen a thousand times.

So why do I deserve all of this for Mother’s Day?

1. I have the very un-glamorous job of changing no fewer than seven dirty diapers per day. And with an almost three-year old who still wears diapers, I practically have to dress myself in a full hazmat suit to protect myself.

2. “Mommy, I want milk. Mommy, I want milk. Mommy, I want milk.”Β Not only do I get tired of hearing Hudson repeat the same phrases over and over again (I’m working with him on understanding that when he says it once, I did hear him and I’m getting to it), but I get tired of hearing myself repeat the same things over and over again. “If you say ‘no’ to me again, you’re going to time out.” I have said this same sentence at least twenty times in the last two weeks. Woof. I have become significantly more patient!

3. After two months of having our house on the market, I have mastered the fine, fine art of vacuuming our entire house in five minutes. With a golden retriever and an almost three-year old little boy, I’m going to be honest and say it’s no small task. I am the vacuum master!

4. I love wearing makeup and cute clothes, but don’t do either of those things more often than twice a week. Only because I can sleep later if I forego makeup and just throw on some comfy clothes. Could I say this means I have a giving spirit? I give myself sleep? No?

5. A few times every week, around 4:00 a.m., Hudson calls out from his room, “I want blue stars! I want blue stars!” (He wants us to come turn on his Twilight Turtle and shine the blue stars on his ceiling.) And every time, I go to his room to turn on the Twilight Turtle and tuck him back in bed. Oh, wait. Todd goes. Never mind.Β In that case, maybe Todd deserves everything he wants for Mother’s Day.

So a relaxing day with my family is what I want. Because they are the ones who have made my life better. I love them with everything that I have, and I am a lucky mama, because I can feel every ounce of love that they have coming back to me.

I’d like a nap for Mother’s Day. That sounds nice. I actually think my husband won’t remember. We had Mother’s Day in March in the UK but we didn’t celebrate because my husband said we’re used to celebrating in May. I think he forgot though. Holiday’s aren’t really his thing. We’ll see. But, a nap is all I really want!

I love this post. Especially the part about Todd πŸ˜‰ Gotta love those supportive husbands.

I always got a good chuckle when I was growing up when my Mom would say to my Dad “Where’s my Mother’s Day present?” and he’d always respond with a “You’re not my mother!” πŸ™‚

Hehe. Hope y’all have a faaaaaabulous weekend and you get everything you deserve!

I need to learn from the vacuum master! My parents surprised Peter and I last night with an earlier visit than expected, and I couldn’t even finish the 2nd room in the house before they walked in the door. Oh well. I hope you have a wonderful Mother’s Day, and that you get to go on that family walk, play on the floor with Hudson, and that you get that so-desired nap on the couch with your man! Have a wonderful Friday!

Ahhh… I want the exact things. My husband keeps asking me what I want/need and really I just want to lay on the couch and be 6 months pregnant while my 15 month old hangs out with me without trying to turn the TV on and off and/or go in the bathroom to stick his hand in the toilet. I guess I would even settle for just being able to lay on the couch. Happy Mother’s Day!

Amen, sister! A lazy day is exactly how I would love to spend Mother’s Day…unfortunately that memo wasn’t passed on to the people at church, my daughter’s youth theater production, etc., so its highly unlikely that it will happen. I’ve adjusted my goals and am instead aiming for sushi takeout and a martini after the kiddos are in bed for the evening!

In regards to #4…this is me, in general. It’s also complicated by the fact that I run every day and my habit is to get dressed in running clothes planning to squeeze it in when I get the chance, and 9 times out of 10 I’m in those same running clothes until after the kids are tucked in for the night. Athleta has changed my life! Today I’m wearing a super-cute black and white running skirt with a pink ribbed underarmor tank (these are genius by the way…I have them in every color); I actually look *cute* out doing the errands I need to get done this morning. I also have just made an investment in tech clothes overall. My favorite shorts are Brooks glycerine shorts and after “making do” with the black ones I broke down and bought them in every color. I wear them every day and wearing bright colors makes me look and feel better.

Happy Mother’s Day! You are such a great example to other Moms out there. I know it sometimes may not feel like it while your out in the “trenches” everyday, but you are doing such a fantastic job with your two sweet boys and you are so great for sharing it with your readers every day!! I’m not yet a Mom, but when I do become one, I pray that I can do as good of job as you’re doing.

I hope you have a fabulous low key mother’s day! I feel you on the vacuuming. We have a yellow lab and our house has been on the market for 2 months (why are we doing this when we are due with our first kid in July? I dunno.)…. and I fear that our Dyson is going to explode one day soon from overuse and me vacuuming like a maniac all the time. πŸ™‚

Happy mothers day Erin. It makes me feel a little better knowing you only put on makeup and cute clothes 2 times a week. I guess those are the times I always see you…..so glamourous! Loved the part about the “blue stars”. Our Will pretty consistently wakes up about that same time and says his leg hurts. He normally just wants a hug and goes back to sleep but it’s nice knowing that when I send dad I am not the only one. πŸ™‚

I hope you got to relax and enjoy some quiet time for mother’s day! I was hoping for the same thing!

I remember when I was in college and high school, I would ask my mom “what do you want for mother’s day?” and she would say “peace and quiet” and now I TOTALLY get it. LOL

    Hey Erin πŸ™‚

Ryder has the same turtle. Cloud b I think. I just wish the dang lights stayed on longer. You have no many times we run up to turn it back on bc Ryder wakes to dark! I loved this post and you posted my feelings exactly. And you totally deserve the best Mothers Day πŸ™‚

I love this list – especially the falling asleep with the hubby while watching a TBS movie for the thousandth time. Which is your fave?

And #2 – Amen! Our little boy Rhys says everything over and over. He’s almost 2 and I am so proud of all he learns and retains – but once is enough! And mommy can’t get it any quicker just because you’re repeating it!

Hope you had a fabulous Mother’s Day with everything on your list! πŸ™‚
