it's Friday… time to unload!

…Hudson got his first little hat this week. And boy is it cute! It’s red and he asks to wear it all the time. He’s so proud of his hat. I think he looks like a little heart breaker wearing it!

…One of the most annoying tasks is matching your husband’s socks when folding laundry. I really don’t like folding laundry anyway, but matching all of his socks is such a pain. The only socks I wear are gym socks and they all match. But I have to match up Todd’s argyle, striped, solid, wool, cotton, patterned black, blue, brown, grey, tan and white socks. Woof! My mom always made us pin our socks together with a safety pin before putting them in the hamper. So far that plan isn’t implemented at our house, but I wish it was. Socks. ‘Nuff said.

…We went to the park with our friends Emily and Jack yesterday after naps. I find that if I tell Hudson that we’re going to do something fun after his nap he will fall asleep right away. We had a great time playing in the incredible weather. We had a great time! And Hudson loves Emily and Jack.

…If you ask Hudson what kind of shoes he’s wearing, he’ll proudly shout out, “Chuck Taylors!”

…We sent out Hayes’s first birthday invitations. Since he was born on Cinco de Mayo, the theme is “Hayes’s First Fiesta!” I’ll be sharing some of the party plans as we get ready. I’ve always wanted to have a Cinco de Mayo party and now we have a really adorable reason to have one!

…Hayes’s doc band gets really hot when we go for walks. He’s supposed to wear it 23 hours a day, so I usually leave it off when we know we’re going to be outside. But I think he has the funniest case of hat hair… or helmet hair?

…Are y’all watching Celebrity Apprentice? Todd and I love it. We watch it together every Sunday night. We cannot wait for Aubrey and Lisa to go home. I never root for the bullies and these girls are just mean.

…Hudson’s favorite game to play is “Superman.” He loves doing this and he doesn’t want to stop. Last night, I probably helped him “fly” about 12 times. But he absolutely loves it and it’s so cute to watch him smile that big!

…We have a neighbor who we’ve called by a name for the last four years. One day, our other neighbor mentioned him to us and she called him by a double name. And when we asked her about it, she said, “yeah, that’s what he likes to be called because that’s his name.” We’ve called him the wrong thing for four years?!

…I ate scrambled eggs for dinner three nights this week.

Anything y’all want to contribute to the big brain dump? I hope you all have a very happy weekend!

We LOVE Celebrity Apprentice, though we never watch it until a new episode is just about to air. Aubrey is SO ridiculous. Bill is always asking, “Now how is she a celebrity again?” And, Lisa’s just MEAN and kind of a big baby.

Also: can’t wait for Henry to get his first baseball cap and pair of Chuck Taylors. Too cute!

I love sock matching. I hate pants! folding ironing ugh. Thanks for the egg one. It makes my living off a bucket of Kfc understandable.

  3. Katie says

Perhaps Hudson would enjoy sock matching…my girls do! We gather all of the socks from the laundry throw them on the coffee table and try to see who gets the most matches. We call it The Sock Matching Game (very original, I know…but it makes the chore seem fun!)

We’re watching Celebrity Apprentice too, although it we usually have to finish it on Monday evening because the 10-11:00 hour gets too late for us! I was happy when Lou finally got sent home last week…the boardroom outbursts were a bit much.

And as for socks, I’m finding that baby socks are my biggest challenge. There always seems to be on missing that ends up being found in the foot of pajamas, or a sleep sack, or the diaper bag. No joke, I found SIX socks in the diaper bag last week!

We have the cutest little old lady neighbor and when we first moved in to our house (4 years ago) my husband told me her name was Shirley Mae. Well, we recently found out her name is Shirley Mayta, as in that’s her last name. She was probably wondering why in the world we were shortening her last name. I crack up every time I think about it.

I detest matching my husband’s socks as well. Even just finding them to match them up is a challenge – I’m convinced that our washer and dryer are a ‘black hole’ for socks as we have several socks now with no partners. Where do they go??? Love the park pics of Hayes and Hudson – looks like they had so much fun. And the Superman pic of you and Hudson is adorable. Happy Friday!

Oh my goodness – we have the same neighbor “issue!” When they first moved in he introduced himself as one name. And then whenever I talked to his wife she would call him another. And we spent a good 6 months trying to figure out the right thing to call him! I still get confused because his name on Facebook is his “real name,” and we make most of our plans for holidays (Easter Egg Hunts, Memorial Day bbq’s) on there!

i hate folding laundry and thankfully my husband is REALLY good about doing laundry AND folding it. It’s wonderful! There is a rule in this house though that I do not fold his socks. He’s okay with that but still will match my socks up together even though I won’t do his. haha. that’s why I love him. 🙂 Your boys have the sweetest little faces. Can’t wait to hear about Hayes’ party.

Socks are the worst! I loathe laundry too. It takes up so much time. That safety pin rule sounds like a keeper to me. I might try implementing that one at my house. I know you love Stella & Dot jewelry and I am hosting a giveaway for the new Lindsay bangle. Come on over and throw your name in the hat.

I hate folding guys socks too! Andy’s are all black but different patterns of black. I like the idea of pinning them together but I’ll never remember to do it.

  11. USCEmily says

Socks are my least favorite part of laundry, too, Erin! Ed always seems to take his socks off inside out, so for me, having to make them right, and then put them together is so annoying to me! My second least favorite part of laundry is actually putting it away. I don’t mind the folding as much the act of putting it where it goes- there never seems to be enough room in our drawers! it’s time for a bigger house with more space!

I feel you on the dress socks! A few years ago, I finally threw in the towel. My husband now has a sock drawer for dark-colored socks, and another for light-colored socks. And I just toss them right in there. So in the mornings, he has to stand there and find the matches!

Ha! That sounds terrible when I write it out, but I figure that if I get them from the hamper, wash them, dry them, and get them in drawers… he can match ’em! 🙂

  13. says

Ha! The socks are the worst! I bought my husband a ton and put them in his stocking at Christmas… all brown, navy, or black, and all the colors were the same style… threw out the others. Made my life easier. 🙂 Wanted to let you know you inspired me to sit down this morning and make my “Errands to run, stuff to do around the house, and what to bring to the hospital” lists this morning… getting ready to go into the 3rd trimester and feeling completely unprepared. Why do I think lists cure everything?! 🙂

  14. says

Emily– That’s why we’re house-hunting. 🙂 We have plenty of space, but we’d like a little more.

Erica– I’m so excited for you! And lists definitely make it much easier to figure out what needs to get done.

  15. Laurel says

So I thought everyone safety pinned their socks together until college and other people’s socks were always in the dryer. It literally blows people’s minds when they complain about losing a sockmate and I mention safety pinning. Saving one sock at a time . . .

  16. Allyce says

Agree with the laundry AND about the socks!

Your boys are so cute and getting so big! Glad you have had some nice weather and chances to get outside, I bet that is so nice and refreshing. I can’t wait to see all the details from Hayes’ party!

  17. says

Hudson looks so cute in his hat!

I know it sounds lame, but I love folding laundry. I’m kind of obsessive about how things are folded, so I have trouble letting anyone else fold the laundry in my house.

  18. says

Hudson looks SO BIG in his hat! Oh my goodness! And so adorable! I can’t wait to buy our little guy his first pair of Chuck Taylors! So cute!

And as for socks…they are my enemy! My husband has a million gray socks…all with slightly different textures or patterns. I’m always getting them messed up!

    Have a great weekend!

  19. says

Aubrey most definitely NEEDS to go!!! I have very little patience for people who think they are God’s gift to this world…she definitely does! My boys love to fly too!!! Have a beautiful day!

okay i’m a little crazy, but i actually love doing laundry. i border on being fussy about it and like sorting by color and temperature requirements, pre-treating stains…all that stuff. at this stage in our marriage and blended family life (a whopping 3 months), my husband still does his own laundry and his daughter’s too. we’re all moving into a new (read: bigger) place really soon and i know that doing the family laundry is going to be a job i inherit. no problem. except…

i get itchy when i see my stepdaughter throw stuff into her hamper – some socks make it in, most land somewhere else in the room. ALL clothes are bunched up and 1/2 inside out…exactly the way they came off her body. stains are left to sit until the laundry is done…like once a month. eek. i’m working on being confident about taking ownership of my role in the household (and not apologizing for bringing change to their lives, you know?). that said, i’m afraid of becoming that crazy person who pulls clothes off her at the dinner table to treat a grape juice stain immediately. i’m even MORE afraid of the evil stepmom label, so i’m gonna have to seriously check myself and my OCD tendencies…lol!

the saftey pin trick is *brilliant* and will perhaps be the one (or first?) change i’ll implement…
well…maybe the first change will be that we actually eat dinner at the table and not on the couch in front of the television…gulp.

hudson IS a total heartbreaker in that hat…and hayes? i don’t have words to describe how precious he is. my gosh!

  21. says

I’ve never even though of safety pinning the socks!! I am implementing this ASAP at our house!

I couldn’t agree more on the Celebrity Apprentice point – I love the show, and can’t stand Aubrey or LIsa. Both are BIG bullies who just need to go. I feel like Lisa just hates anyone who she thinks is prettier than her, and I think Aubrey is just confused as to why she’s even on the show in the first place, so she’s “acting out”!

  22. says

I’ve got a double first name, and I usually don’t correct folks who get it wrong. The first half of my name is a little unusual for a girl as it is, and nobody spells the second half of my name right, so I take the easy (for me) way out.
I read once that when people would call Princess Diana, “Di,” she would respond with, “Actually, it’s Diana.” I guess I’ve never been bold enough for that. A friend’s daughter has a double name that begins with Mary, and is sometimes called just “Mary” – even by family members. My friend has taught her to respond with, “My friends call me Mary {second name}.” I think those are both great ways to address this situation.
Honestly, it’s interesting to hear about this from the other side. I think that if it *really* bothered him, your neighbor would have let you know. It doesn’t irritate me enough to correct folks, mainly because I don’t want them to feel awkward. Now I know that there’s a potential for awkwardness either way!

I hate matching my husband’s socks too! Such a pain!

I can’t wait to see what Hayes’ party is like! Cinco de Mayo is a fun theme! We’re throwing my husband’s 30th birthday party that day, his actual birthday is May 3rd.

Husdon is such a big boy now!

I love Celebrity Apprentice! I used to be a fan of Lisa’s comedy because I like dirty humor, but she’s getting really mean and nasty on the show and I don’t like it at all. Aubrey has some good ideas, but she is so conceited and just way too much. I am rooting for Penn or Clay to win, and I’d be OK with Arsenio too. I’ve been rooting for the men (aside from Lou, he should have been gone a lot sooner than he was) most weeks.

I was recently at a conference and the speaker was talking about matching socks for her 4 kids. She said she finally gave up and put them all in a basket and told them to match their own socks. She said they still wear mis-matched socks just so people will know their mom is a bit crazy! It was pretty funny, but actually it was a pretty good idea!

  25. says

love the hat – omgaw – mike doesn’t know it but soon his socks will be the same to although lately he’s been doing the laundry 🙂

thank goodness people still blog – i am over facebook!

I think my brain is turned off for the week 🙂 The most I can do right now is sip champagne (bc it’s Friday…and I can) and watch Big Bang Theory! Happy weekend!

  27. says

I hate matching my husbands socks! So sometimes I just put them in a big pile and force them to fit in his drawer. He doesn’t complain. How could he, really? Since I’m the one doing laundry!!

  28. says

I spy a pair of ballet pink TOMS in the last picture. I have them too :). Adorable photos! Oh, and I HATE laundry, but my socks somehow disappear and Andrew’s never do!

  29. marcy says

Just an idea… Your Hudson seems really smart. He would probably love to match his daddy’s socks! The children I work with have always loved to play that “game!” 🙂

  30. says

Someone told me that using safety pins in the socks will create holes from getting pulled in the dryer. But I love the idea! Hudson is too cute in that hat and Hayes looks so sweet in that swing. I laughed out loud when I read the story about the neighbor.

  31. says

For the longest time, one of my neighbors would call me “Alli” instead of “Andie” and I never corrected her because the southern girl in me was taught to never correct my elders (she’s old enough to be my mom) So I just let it go. Then I think she realized it when she got our Christmas card and it said “Love, Scott, Andie & Scruffy” and she never called me that since.

If he never said anything, i wouldn’t worry about it!

and your boys are so stinking cute! Is that a Britax Marathon that Hayes is in? We are in the process of convertible car seat shopping right now and I would love to hear your input on which ones you like the best!

  32. says

Happt Tuesday! Catching up from the weekend and yes it was so nice here! We took the kids on a hike and they both did great 🙂

I love Hudson’s hat! Ryder thinks he’s the coolest in his too, but he just looks SO grownup in it that it makes me sad haha! Hayes is just adorable and can’t wait to see his party details! Love the fiesta idea 🙂
