our Easter celebration

We had a really fun week! We went to the zoo, the children’s museum, and we worked on some projects at the house. Spring Break 2012 was a success! Hudson was always devastated to leave the zoo, the children’s museum or the mall carousel (epic meltdowns), but he loved it while he was there! We ended up getting a museum membership and renewed our zoo membership. I’m excited that we can just go when we need a little “field trip” this summer.

On Saturday morning Todd and I had a date day. We went to Gourmet Shop for brunch while Todd’s parents played with Hudson and Hayes. The boys have lots of fun outdoor toys at their grandparents’ house, so it always such a fun adventure to go over there.

After brunch, we went on our big Easter grocery shopping run and then went to look at a couple of houses. We brought the boys home and then I cooked while they napped. I watched a couple of movies in the kitchen while I made hash brown casserole, 7-layer salad, and a yummy strawberry trifle that I found on Pinterest.

After naps, we dyed Easter eggs! I love doing this with Hudson. He loves all the colors and likes spinning the eggs around in the cups of dye. It’s potentially messy, but I always just put a splat mat down on the table and let him just go to town. We wrote names on the eggs and he liked saying, “This is Mommy’s eggg and this is Hayes’s egg!”

Hayes sat in his high chair and supervised the egg dyeing process.

After the boys went to bed, Todd and I played Easter bunny, which is always so much fun. The boys got some little toys and books. Hudson got some little animal and Sesame Street figurines, coloring books, sticker books, colors, bubbles and a beach towel. Santa Claus had gotten Hudson a sleeping bag for Christmas, but it wasn’t delivered on time. So the Easter Bunny dropped it off, too. Hayes got books, a sweet little Jelly Cats stuffed bunny, some sunglasses, his own little dinosaur, some new cups, snacks, and a toy phone.

And then we set the table for Easter lunch so we could just come in from church and be ready to eat! Todd’s parents joined us for lunch and brought a delicious ham and deviled eggs. I just love Easter lunch! Todd’s grandmother couldn’t be with us yesterday because she wasn’t feeling well. We really missed having Nana there!

We went to church and Sunday school on Sunday morning. The service was wonderful and powerful, and exactly the way I love to worship on Easter sunday. We visited with friends and came home to have lunch with Todd’s family.

We hunted Easter eggs and then gave the boys their Easter baskets after that. We didn’t want to give Hudson his basket before church because we knew he would not be happy about having to leave everything for us to run to church. So we didn’t even do it until we got home.

I always forget how much fun Easter egg hunts are. Hudson absolutely loves it. I think we hid too many eggs, though, because his basket was overflowing and every time he’d put a new egg in the basket, another one would fall out.

Hayes woke up from his nap and was excited to find his Easter basket. I just love this funny little boy so much! His big bear crawl just makes me laugh.

HeΒ loved his little toy phone and he didn’t even resist when I put the fun bunny ears on him that were in his basket.

And, of course, his sunglasses went straight in his mouth! Where else?

At the end of all the celebrating, Todd and I were worn slap out. We had such a wonderful day and couldn’t wait to just finish watching the Master’s and get a good nap on the couch.

Hudson was really starting to understand a lot of the Easter story this year. He was talking about how “they rolled the stone away and Jesus wasn’t there because Jesus is Risen.” I’m very excited about all that his little mind understands and I’m really thankful for the people in our lives that help us reinforce all of the important things we want to teach our children.

How was your Easter?

Sounds like you guys had a wonderful time – any excuse for time with family is a great one! So excited for Hudson, that he is getting to the age where he can start to understand the wonderful story of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection and think it’s so wonderful that you, as his parents, are providing a home in which he has the opportunity to learn about his Lord and Savior. So many children don’t and it’s so sad. On another note, Erin, seriously, can you please do a home decor post sometime soon? Your tables and holiday decorations are always so perfect – like the adorable eggs on the table in this post. Where do you go for all of this stuff? How do you determine what is worth buying? Where do you get your inspiration? I would love some pointers, and I’m sure a lot of your other readers would appreciate any decorating advice you can share as well!

It looks like it was the perfect Easter celebration. My MIL made a strawberry trifle when we were home a couple of weeks ago and it was SO good! I love the eggs used in your centerpiece.

Looks like a wonderful week/weekend! I love the boys’ baskets. Is that a Hungry Caterpillar blanket in front of Hudson’s basket? That book & toy have become a new favorite of my nephew!

Your boys are just too precious! We skipped church this year- i’m back at teaching Sunday School, and was pooped after a dozen kindergartners all hopped up on sugar! Plus Dell Harper is a bit too young for the nursery still. . .

Hudson is getting SO big, I can’t believe what a little BOY he is now. And Hayes is the cutest thing– your total twin! Love his sweet rosy cheeks. Your Easter table was beautiful… looks like your family had a wonderful weekend celebrating our Risen Savior!

I don’t know if you have tried this but, to avoid tantrums when it’s time to leave/finish an activity, you could always try a timer! A minute or two before it’s time to leave, tell Hudson “one more minute” and have him watch you or help you set a timer on your phone. Tell him something like “when you hear the beep beep it’s time to go!” When time is up he can hear the beep and might get excited about helping you turn the timer off instead of getting upset that he has to go. I’m a speech therapist and I use this little trick at work all the time! It’s not fool proof but it works 95% of the time! It gives the kiddo a heads up that it’s almost time to leave and they have something to do/distract them when it’s time to go.

Ok, in the second paragraph I completely read, …and Todd and I ate all day, instead of had a date day, hehehe, you can tell either where my head is (always ;)) and/or I should be sleeping ;).

Look at your adorable little sweet, smart, people! Sounds like y’all have had a fun busy week. We can’t wait to go to the zoo with the littles again soon! I love hearing these sweet little two years talk and what they understand. So sweet. (Bc I know you’ll appreciate it πŸ˜‰ Tonight when Little was in bed and I asked him what he was thankful for tonight, the first he said was, “Jesus… He saves me.” and then said that he doesn’t have to worry about bad guys or monsters because Jesus is with him. πŸ˜‰ )

I love your Easter centerpiece, so pretty!

You look amazing and that pic of you and Todd made me smile a big ‘un. When are we getting together next? Whoa, long comment πŸ˜‰ Love you! πŸ™‚

    Hey Erin πŸ™‚

Our Easter was one of the best and I was so proud of both kids for behaving through church Sunday morning. We attend a small church at the beach when visiting and they don’t have a nursery so of course I was worried at how Brynley would do!

And yes we went ahead and gave Ryder his Easter basket and goodies before church, but let him pick one thing to bring along with him so all was right with the world again for him haha! I should have prob made him wait too! It looks like such a great Easter for y’all too, and I saved that recipe for the strawberry trifle to try sometime. Yum!!

I’m loving Hayes bear crawl too πŸ™‚ such a cutie and Hudson looks so big now and so handsome. Again, I’m do glad you had a happy Easter! Oh and I just adored the Easter egg tablescape

Your boys are just too too cute.

That strawberry trifle looks divine and I think I’m going to try to make that VERY soon.

our Easter was very nice. Since our little guy is still a little too young for Easter mass (he likes to yell and talk very loudly these days) we decided to skip over it this year so that he wouldn’t disturb all of the others enjoying the mass. But I loved coloring eggs with him (he watched) and putting together his Easter basket! And of course, we, too, had lots of family time and I always treasure that the most!

the image of little hayes “supervising” the egg dying from his high chair is adorable. lol! what wonderful photos! you have a beautiful family, dress the boys beautifully, set a gorgeous table and plan such great menus. my husband, stepdaughter and i spent easter weekend at an out of town wedding. my husband, knowing how important this whole lenten season has been to me, found a local church and we all went to 8am service on easter sunday – before heading straight to the airport to catch our flight. whew!
