life happens.

The last week was a doozy.

Between allergy mess turning into a mean cough, runny nose, and complete loss of voice and getting used to our first week with the doc band, last week kicked my tail.

I was sick. I didn’t meal plan. I didn’t wake up early to blog or to do my quiet time. I only went to the gym once and my heart rate monitor almost exploded because my heart rate was ridiculously high due to my lack of oxygen. Seriously. I was in spin class and I saw my heart rate monitor reach 193 when I wasn’t even that physically tired. And I didn’t die, but it wasn’t comfortable.

I napped when the boys napped so I could try to get some relief. But we still had our normal meetings and responsibilities. And we still had to get used to the doc band and do “skin checks” for Hayes every few hours.

We had six house showings last week, so we were constantly vacuuming up dog hair (thanks, Oreck!) and then rushing every little creature out into the car to drive around while the potential buyers took a look around.

Laundry took a back seat. Meal planning and preparing took a back seat. And general home organization just went out the window.

Needless to say, this morning I woke up and felt like I had a million things to try to get done. Weeks like last week are tough. But they’re harder the following week because that’s what I spend time making up for it.

I made a little commitment this morning to not do anything “extra” this week. I’m going to do my regular routine that I’ve gotten so used to, and not take on anything extra in the evenings.

Thank goodness for the Crock Pot. Because I planned our meals yesterday and went grocery shopping, I was able to get dinner started this morning and I’m able to focus a little bit more on all the other little tasks– and laundry folding– that I need to.

Do you ever have weeks that really set you back and make you feel like your house is in disarray?

Yes, I feel like I’ve had a cold for a month now! Yesterday in spite of an enormous to do list, I just had to let myself sleep half the day away. I guess it will all get done eventually.

Yes all the time! And, the hardest thing for me to do is look around a messy house and accept that it will stay that way for a few more days. Hate that feeling!

Yes! And you’re right, the week following an ‘off’ week is the worst. My grandma recently passed away and there was about 2.5 weeks from when she initially got sick and was in the hospital and then between the funeral and everything that goes with that, plus the emotional side of things, I just felt my house (& life) was in a disarray. It took me a little over a week to get back into the swing of life and pick up/be organized!
Glad you’re feeling better!! Hoping you can get everything back on track this week 😉

I’d love to see what you are making in your crock pot! I use mine quiet a bit but am always looking for new yummy recipes! Hope you are feeling better this week!

UGH! We sold our house last summer and keeping the house in order with 2 dogs and a baby was near impossible. My husband was away for training and I was barely holding it together! I totally understand. Selling a house with animals and children is a full time job alone!!! Praying it’s a quick process for you guys.

Yup. I work full time (no babies yet :)) and I feel like my house is always in need of 1,000,000 things. Hope y’all have a good week! What did you make in the CrockPot? I would love a new good recipe!

uh yes this happens at least once a month where I feel like my house and organization of it have gone out the window! Then I breathe and remember I can get everything back together in one night!! Hope this week is better for you!

I’m feeling the same way this week. Between March 9 & 17 we put 1202 miles on the car, went to 3 different cities in 2 states. Part of it was for fun, but part of it was because of a family member that had surgery. I gave up on my monthly cleaning list and decided to just hit the important stuff. This week isn’t much better with 2 late nights at school. I’m looking forward to my 3-day weekend to get refocused. I’m trying not to be too bothered about being behind but it’s not easy!

Hugs. I hope you are feeling better. This is one of those weeks for me, and I feel like a wreck. I’m trying to take it one day at a time and be kind to myself. Definitely over committed this week.

I understand completely! We are in the midst of a house move ourselves. Even though it’s only to another house less than a mile away, my house has been in total chaos for a couple of weeks because of packing. And when we do move into our new house, we have lots of wallpaper stripping and painting to do – not to mention a complete kitchen remodel! So needless to say, we will be living in chaos for a long time and I really don’t function well like that! But I know it will eventually all come together and be totally worth it! Good luck with everything!

i feel like this for about 9 months out of the year — work + school = no time for anything else, which i hate. i hate having clutter in my house, clothes everywhere, etc. i just have to keep telling myself that it will all get done.

Everyone has those weeks every once in a while! But when you have your house on the market and you have SIX showings in ONE week? Fugedaboudit. You know? I’ve only tried to sell a house one time, and even though I’m very OCD about my house being sanitary, I’m also pretty lax about letting it be a little cluttered with toys, paperwork, etc. So the need to have it actually perectly picked up and beautiful at ALL times for weeks on end. . .well, it just about killed me. And I was neither sick nor caring for a baby with extra needs at the time. So yeah. Not only do we all have weeks “like that” sometimes, yours actually sounds super-extra heinous. It’s probably not the advice you’d be tempted to take, because I think you’re more diligent than I am, but my advice would be this: take it one step further than just not taking on extra stuff in the evenings this week. While you’re trying to sell your house (meaning, your responsibility to keep your house perfect is way more than usual), go easy on yourself in all the other areas that you can. I’m sure your early mornings with scriptures and exercise have been doing you A LOT of good, but there’s only so much energy to go around, right? It may just be a short season where getting up super early is not sustainable. Maybe 15 minutes of scriptures during a naptime could suffice for now, and maybe walks with the stroller in the neighborhood could substitute for the gym a couple days a week. Just be kind to yourself, flexible about your expectations when you’ve got huge things going on.

I got the name of the lady that paints the bands. My friend was very pleased what she did for her son. Her name is Leigh Ann Gibson. She lives about twenty minutes from Cranial Technologies and has a two hour turnaround time. Here is her website….looks like she has done lots! They are all beautiful! http://www.treasuredinteriors.net

I believe i sent you the link for the vinyl decals in my email this morning if you decide to o that direction instead. Hope this helps! Beverly

do i ever! i feel like the last 5 months have been that way. my coping mantra of “things just need to be good enough”. irks me. good enough? what’s that?! i want them good or great. not good enough. but alas…that’s all i can manage sometimes. the trick for me (and i’m still very much working on this one) is not to exhaust myself trying to get everything back on track in one day. sometimes it takes a few days…or weeks…or months even. i ramble. as always…thanks for sharing with us. xoxo

My allergies were horrible this past weekend. It is amazing how much they can wear you out. I cannot imagine having showings with two little ones. Hopefully, you get a good offer soon. Your house is so cute that I can’t imagine it sitting around long.

I have a week like that almost once a month. Things just add up and catch up with me and then I get stressed out, which to me means that I ignore things that need to get done, which ends up in bigger, messier piles and more stress.

My family has moved/shown/sold two houses in the past two years. I know how HARD it is to constantly be picking up and keeping things perfect in hopes of selling the house. The hard work and inconvenience from having to leave will pay off when your house sells! Good luck!

  18. says

Totally random comment, but for some reason I thought someone knocked on your door and wanted to buy your house and you said yes? Did that not work out and now you guys are selling? I had to take ours off the market because it was SO hard to get ready for those showings and I felt like most of them were wasting our time! Hope they are going well for you and Hope you are feeling betters!

Oh girl this seems to be my motto every week! No matter how much I try to get more accomplished, with a 6 month and 3 year old, just getting the bare minimum done sometimes is totally ok since that’s life right now. Or my life anyways. Totally relate to this and I can only imagine doing a house showing on top of that! But it will all be worth it in the end, and Hayes won’t have to wear his doc band for long. You’re doing great Mama!
