a brain (and picture) dump

We have had a busy/eventful couple of weeks. I realized I had some pictures on my phone and on my camera that I hadn’t shared here yet.

1. We have had about 10 house showings in 10 days. We’re very encouraged by the amount of traffic coming through. We just need one buyer.

2. Hayes got tubes in his ears last week, and in true Hayes fashion, he did great! He charmed the nurses before the surgery. He cried a little bit when it was over, but he took a great nap at home and woke up a happy boy. it’s a very blurry iPhone picture, but he was so happy. Those sweet little hospital gowns always make me want to cry, but he did great.

3. The Hunger Games is coming out soon. I really cannot wait! I wish I could convince TC to read the trilogy because I want him to be excited to see the movie, too.

4. I have a very strong urge to cut off a lot of hair. And when I say “a lot” I mean about six inches. And six inches really won’t make that much of a mark on all this hair. I just need an appointment!

5. My dear Nina is sending us a statue of St. Joseph to bury in our backyard. We’re not Catholic, but she is, and while we’re already praying for God’s will on this house selling thing, we’ll take a little extra help, too. Now I need to find a way to dig a hole to bury St. Joseph.

6. We celebrated St. Patrick’s Day in Columbia today and went to the St. Patrick’s Day parade. This has become a little tradition for us because we love so close to the festivities. Hudson absolutely loves the parade. Hayes chilled out in his stroller until he got restless. It was warm, so we ended up removing his doc band to help him cool off out there.

7. I am not a fan of March Madness. At all. I just don’t get into basketball and kind of tune out anything on TV related to basketball in March.

8. I took a week off from meal planning and working out last week because I was sick. And getting out of a good habit is such a bad thing for me. I slept later last week and I am going to have to get back on track planning meals, waking up early, and getting myself to the gym in the mornings.

9. Cinco de Mayo party planning is definitely coming along. I feel like I have 25 balls in the air and like there should probably be 26 or 27 balls in the air, but I’m just forgetting something. I know that Hayes will have a wonderful day and we’ll have a great time regardless of all of the planning. But it’s such a fun theme and I am having a great time with it.

10. Speaking of parties… Hudson will turn 3 in June. We’re kind of hoping to be mid-move. We had a Little Gym birthday party last year and it was fun, but I don’t know that I want to do that two years in a row. But I also don’t think I want a party at home for 15 3-year-olds. Any suggestions? We could always skip the party this year and just do a family night. That is actually very tempting.

11.What happened to Spring? Seriously. It was 86 degrees today. We didn’t have any of those nice, 65-degree days. I’m hoping there will be at least one more cool front before June comes and we have six months of heat without relief.

10 showings?? How exciting is that?? I’m slightly jealous, of course πŸ˜‰ We did a drive-by of our maybe house today, you know, because it’s empty and it was a gorgeous Saturday and it would have been a perfect time for a showing… and the only thing in the yard was the For Sale sign. Yay!
And the basketball thing? I feel like we expend all of our energy on football in this house and well, there’s just none left for basketball.
Your boys are precious and I can’t wait to see the party!

I hope you get a buyer very soon on your house. Good luck and good thoughts & prayers coming your way.

Glad Hayes did great for the tubes..

Your boys are just so precious.

Can’t wait to see party pictures.. πŸ™‚

I know exactly what you mean about trying to get TC to read the Hunger Games trilogy. I’ve been trying to get C to read them for the last 4 months. He’ll go see the movie with me, but who will I have to compare the movie/book with?!

  4. Camille says

I just read The Hunger Games after much coaxing from my friends. I am SOOO excited for the movie now! I read The Hunger Games in about two days and Catching Fire in under a day! I am just waiting on my friend to bring me the third one so I can read that too!

We also buried a St. Joseph’s statue when our house was on the market, too! It worked πŸ™‚ Good luck with everything related to buying/selling/moving!

As a Catholic, I’m thrilled y’all are recruiting a little help from St. Joe! His feast day is tomorrow!!! I’ll be praying too πŸ™‚

And as for March madness..I’ve never been into it before but I decided to fill out a bracket with my husband {even though I had NO idea what I was doing} and now I’m actually into watching some of the games…especially since my bracket is doing better than my husband’s!

Do you have a zoo nearby? We were looking for something fun for our little guy, and we found out the zoo near us does birthday parties! They have different options available for different age groups, and they bring out animals for them to see up close and to pet (obviously no lions or anything!) We did it for my oldest son’s birthday last year and he begged for it again this year!

We’re trying to get our house ready to sell as well. I hope you guys get a buyer ASAP and I hope we get as much traffic going through our house when the time comes as you are right now. What scares me in this area is that I don’t think we will be able to see for as much as we paid almost 5 years ago. I hate the idea of taking a hit and selling for less…

If you really want to throw Hudson a party, maybe do it at a park or petting zoo or something if you have one nearby? If you’re in the middle of moving, I would probably just do a family day. Landon’s party this year is going to be big, but it’s his first, After that, we’re having small parties or family days. When he’s older, he will be able to choose between a party or a really fun day with us.

Hayes and Hudson are just too cute!

We had to cancel Hudson’s party this year because he fractured his wrist the day before. He honestly didn’t know the difference! It was harder on me than him.

    Good luck with your house!

  10. says

All your boys look so cute in their green πŸ™‚ I love it! And Hudson is looking so BIG! Can’t believe he’s close to 3.

That’s great news about the house. My fingers are crossed for y’all.

Also – are we still meeting up for Hunger Games? I don’t think anything was ever decided!

  11. says

Whohoo for Hunger Games! You know, after I was so hooked on the series, I rented all the audiobooks from the library and gave them to my husband (he’s not a big reader unless it’s a Money magazine). He listened to the audiobooks and ended up loving the series too!

I was thinking of a zoo day too!! Or maybe some kind of splash party? pool, sprinkler, kiddie pools wahtever!!! sounds fun

What about Country Adventures? I think they are technically in Blythewood, but I don’t think it would be too far from the area you live in. We’ve been to parties there before and the kids always love it. They have a petting farm, hayrides, you get to ride a horse, and you can roast marshmallows or hot dogs over a big fire pit. A splash pad is always good at that age too, but I haven’t lived in the Shandon/Forest Acres area for almost 7 year so I’m not sure what’s available near you. We have one in Irmo and my daughter went to lots of parties there at that age.

I have two boys (7 and 4) and we have done a variety of parties through the years…home, family, Lego, Monkey Joe’s, Disney, etc. and the sweetest memories we have are of the family parties. I think what they enjoy most of all at that age is all of the love and attention showered upon them. I let the boys pick all 3 of the meals on their special day with cake and themed party goods and they are happy as clams. Sometimes it’s the most simple things…

St. Joseph helped us πŸ™‚ Good luck!

We did a party for my 3 year old last year similar to Little Gym, and we’re trying to think of something different this year, too. And, yes, 15 4 year olds at my house does not sound fun. Maybe a party at home with just the family?

OK, please don’t think I’m strange, but as I was blow drying my hair this morning I actually thought, “Erin should cut several inches off her hair”. Seriously. I love the darker color and I think just below your shoulders with some long layers would be very cute for summer.

My sister in law generally uses the common room at church (kind of like a big gym or dining hall with carpet). There are tables set out for cake time and parents socializing then maybe four stations with games. This year there was bubbles, cornhole boards, pin the heart on the tin man (wizard of oz them) and I did face painting. Kids played for about an hour, had cupcakes and ice cream, played a little more, then headed home and we had quick clean up. Would that be an option for Hudson’s party?

I’m soo glad to hear that Hayes’ tubes surgery went well, seeing him in that little hospital gown has to just break your heart, but I’m sure its well worth it for him to get some relief!
I’ve been trying to Nick to read the Hunger Games forever, and he refuses to believe he would enjoy it! It’s so frustrating, because I know he’d love it.

Hey! How is the doc band going? My sweet girl is abt to get in one in the next few weeks and I am a little nervous about it. Just thought I would see how things were going for you guys. Thanks for sharing about it.

Our realtor sent us your listing! The house looks beautiful! I am so glad you’ve had some good traffic. Things have picked up for us, too. But, we are so very tired of having people in and out of our house….it has been almost a year for us on the market so far….St. Joseph and all! And, everyone ALWAYS wants to come at naptime! I will be thinking about you. I know having the house on the market can be stressful and frustrating. I am hoping your fab house and fab location will have somebody wanting to snatch yours up soon! And, yay for Hayes and his tubes! I hope the surgery helps to keep the little man well!

Hayes looks so cute in that little hospital gown!!
Quick doc band tip: when it starts to get hot (my little guy used to get so sweaty under there!), try sprinkling some baby powder in it. It’ll also make it smell a little nicer. πŸ™‚

Regarding your birthday party question…. Several years ago we gave up birthday parties (I have 2
August babies and 2 parties in 2 weeks was making me nuts). We started the tradition of making a really big deal out of their actual birthday. We decorate the dining room all fancy and let them choose all their meals for the day. We fill the day with whatever activities they choose (be it a movie, bowling, mini-golf, pottery painting, etc). At the end of the day we open gifts and eat cake! If there are family members available to join us for that, cool…if not, no big deal. Our kids LOVE this and start planning their day months in advance!
    Food for thought!

A June birthday can be tough in Columbia. What about Saluda Shoals (hello, splash pad!), the zoo, Monkey Joe’s, Edventure, or renting a bounce house?

  24. says

here’s my completely superficial comment πŸ™‚
i normally think hayes looks just like you and not so much like hudson, but in these pics (and maybe the older he gets? more he fills out?) i think he favors hudson…a lot!
they’re both such precious, precious boys! hope you’re feeling better and finding some pockets of rest this week. πŸ™‚

oh! and libbi has a june bday, too. last year we did the party outside of the house since i had just had laney. but this year, i think we’re doing “pancakes and pajamas” and just having a few of her little friends over (in their pj’s) to have pancakes and a little breakfast together on a saturday morning. we MAY even do it at a restaurant if i can find somewhere to rent a room…

your boys are beyond adorable – so glad to hear that the tubes surgery went well. What a little ham πŸ™‚

I’m DYING to see Hunger games….I wonder if we can secure a baby sitter.

Hi – just wanted to say that we sold our home after we buried a St. Joseph statue in the front yard. I read up on it and I think you’re supposed to bury him upside down. He now sits on our windowsill in the kitchen and I’m grateful to him every day. Did I mention the house was about 10 minutes south of Detroit? With a crumbling basement? Oh, and a termite problem. GO ST. JOE!!!!

  28. says

So my brother and sister in law go to this St Patricks Day parade every year too! They live in Greenville and always invite us to come but we never make it. I’m dying to go sometime and hoping to next year! Love Hudson’s expression laughing and having just the best time! Congrats on all the bites to see your house! That’s awesome πŸ™‚ I had to laugh about digging the home and burying St Joseph! My husband grew up Catholic (but we attend a Baptust church) and he recommended we do the same thing when it’s time to sell our house. I’d say do a low key party this year if things are still between a move and then go all out next year. 4 will definitely be a great age for that and you can still get away with something small for 3 years.
