one-liners from the homestead

I’m still here at my parents’ house. Bless their hearts. They invited us here for the week and I warned them it would be a long, loud week. They’re not used to noise. My brother and I have both left the nest. Our beloved Beaux went to doggy heaven two years ago and my parents enjoy their peace and quiet in the Midwest. (Have I mentioned they’re back in the Midwest?)

Anyway. We’re here, laying low. Enjoying ourselves. I thought I’d jot down a few of the funny things we’ve heard around here.

1. “Hudson, share with Hayes. Give him one of your toys.” – me

2. “Do I hear Hayes crying?”- Poppy *

3. “Hayes! Share!”- Hudson

4.  “Hudson, go to sleep.”- me

5. “Do I hear Hayes crying?”- Poppy

6. “What happens to Katniss in the third book?” – KK

7. “I wub you.” – Hudson

8. “I think I hear Hayes crying.” – Poppy

9. “Hayes spit up again.”- Hudson

10. “Watch Aladdin.” – Hudson **

11. “Watch Toy Story.” – Hudson **

12. “Watch Monsters.” – Hudson **

*My dad frequently thinks he hears Hayes crying. Sometimes he is, sometimes he’s not. Sometimes Hayes is just settling down for his nap and whining for a few minutes until he falls asleep. My mom said that she’s putting the words, “Do I hear Hayes crying?” on my Dad’s tombstone someday. Hilarious.

**It has been very cold here and even a little bit snowy. Hudson has watched almost the entire Disney collection over and over and over and over again.

What a great week for all of you! I’m sure your parents love having you guys back home and the boys get great grandparent time! Over Christmas week my 3 year old niece watched Lion King multiple times…she never gets tired of it so I understand how you are feeling with Hudson watching the collection over and over. 🙂

I don’t know if I’ve ever commented on your blog before, but I’ve been lurking for a few months 🙂 I have to ask, how did it come about that y’all started calling your dad Poppy? We called my grandfather (who passed away 2 years ago) Poppy, and I guess I made it up when I was learning to talk as the first grandchild. (My mom: this is grandpa! Me: Poppy!) My grandmother on that side is Geetle. Anyway, I’ve never heard anyone else use that for a grandparent before and just wondered how you came up with it!

That is so funny about your dad! My dad was caught over Christmas saying “I think Charlie is hungry. Is it time to feed my grandson?” 🙂

Love it!!!!! My dad would do the same thing. We tell our mom we are going to put “Where’s my cell phone?” on her tombstone…She might ask that 100 times a day! Hope ya’ll have a safe trip home, and hope to see you soon!

We watch a lot of Disney movies too here in Michigan! What part of the Midwest were you visiting? My 3 year old son Mason is always telling his baby brother so share also. Hilarious!

Too funny! When we had our first daughter I was sure everytime that I took a shower I could hear her cry, regardless of the fact that I was 100% positive that she was asleep. I’d still stick my wet, freezing cold head out of the shower to make sure.
I know you’re having fun, and your mom & dad will miss the noise once you and the boys leave. I worked in the development office while at BSU & your dad was the Exec. Dir. at that time. He always said the nicest things, and tried to make sure people were smiling!
Tell him Lola’s sister said hi. 🙂
