a sorry excuse for a post

1. Despite not having watched Ashley’s season of The Bachelorette and my goal to eliminate reality TV from my life, I watched The Bachelor. This show just gets worse and worse, doesn’t it? It may just be a good show to have on while I catch up on emails.

2. Catching up on emails while watching The Bachelor doesn’t sound very “quiet”, does it? Maybe I won’t watch The Bachelor.

3. I haven’t had a Diet Coke in five days. I have been convicted. I blame Megan, even though she means well and is just trying to save my life when she tells me the bad stuff about Diet Coke! Here’s to no Diet Coke in 2012. (I will likely have to avoid movie theaters and Mexican restaurants to maintain this goal.)

4. If you don’t have the My Fitness Pal app, you need it! I’m hoping that I can get to pre-pregnancy weight by Hayes’s first birthday.

5. Speaking of Hayes’s first birthday… I’m starting to plan his party, for real! Pinterest has made party planning so much easier. I do wish I could make my boards private for a while so my party plans and inspiration aren’t “exposed” before the party.

6. While we’ve been away, TC has accomplished so many little tasks around the house that just needed to get done. These are all just tedious little odd jobs and I’m so excited that they’re complete.

7. I am getting my hair highlighted today. My family is excited!

8. We had a really delicious New Year’s Day feast of pulled pork, cabbage rolls, black eyed peas, creamed corn, corn bread and pineapple pretzel salad. Yum!

9. TC and I saw War Horse in the theater last week and it was really one of the most wonderful movies I’ve ever seen. It was so beautiful and such a great story. I highly recommend it to all animal lovers.

I was told that War Horse was a great movie…perhaps Tim and I will have a date night soon!

When is Hayes’ Birthday? Nick has his 2nd in April and Graham has his 4th in May and you better believe I’ve been gathering ideas – I wish Pinterest had been around the last few years!!! Such a great and fun tool!

  2. Jan Mullis says

If I want to keep my Pinterest “boards” private, I just take a screenshot with my phone rather than pinning it to a board. That helps me keep my ideas from being revealed before I want them to be. HTH.

Giving up Diet Coke is TOUGH. I did it (mostly) a couple of years ago because I was drinking way too much of it. I didn’t drink it at all while I was pregnant, and now I’ll have the occasional can, but nothing like before. Good luck!

I used to watch the Bachelor, but it’s gotten so . . . well raunchy . . . that I don’t watch it anymore. I also used to watch the Kardashians, but the other night I was watching reruns, and it bordered on perverted. I decided enough is enough. I know that that’s what sells, but I just can’t take it.

I really want to see War Horse, but I’m afraid I’ll embarrass myself balling in the theater. I may have to watch it in the privacy of my home when it comes out on DVD.

  5. says

5 days with no DC?! wow, that is commendable.

PS – i totally think the Bachelor is completely scripted this season. I don’t think girls can really be like that in real life…well, I hope not anyway. ha!

  6. says

I hadn’t had DC since before Christmas. And then I ate Mexican food yesterday. Which means I had ordered a DC. Maybe I’ll only drink it if eating Mexican food. 🙂

Pinterest really needs the private feature! In planning a rehearsal dinner for my brother and his wife-to-be, she’s able to see all of the plans. Boo.

  7. Megan says

Good luck on the diet coke elimination….very excited to see your hair highlighted!! Post pics to twitter! 🙂 Happy New Year!

I think taking reality tv out of my life is the best thing I’ve done in awhile. Those “Reality” Housewives just got worse and worse and I found myself stressed out after every episode. LOL

Using MyFitnessPal is how I lost so much weight (before getting pregnant again). I’ll be using it again once I have Sydney and can think about losing weight. Probably once she’s 6-8 months old if it goes anything like it did with Amelia. 🙂

I save pics from Pinterest in a party folder on my computer that I don’t want others to see vs. pinning it to my boards if it’s something I think I’ll be using. You might try that?

Okay, every time I see the previews for War Horse I think to myself that it looks like a great movie but it also looks like one that I would sob through. War + Animals….I’m sure to breakdown in the theatre. I’ll have to wait for it to come out on DVD.

    Have a great week, girl!

Yay for highlights! I don’t think I can take this seasons’ Bachelor seriously due to his hair. I love a clean cut man! I second the birthday party ideas board being private. It takes all the fun out of first birthday planning if everyone sees your ideas!

I gave up DC last spring too, if I want a pop now, I just drink a real Coke or Dr. Pepper. It was like since DC has 0 calories, it was a free for all. Now if I do drink a pop at all, I just have 1. I really slacked on my water drinking over the holidays, I hope to get back to emptying my Bubba Keg every day (as it sits on my desk untouched).

  11. says

I need to nix the diet coke thing too!!! I rely on it for migraines but it’s such a bad habit! I’m thinking of joining my fitness pal today- I’m glad you’re doing it because then maybe we can all motivate each other 🙂 and I am way over the bachelor!! Can’t watch it anymore! Lol

  12. says

YES! Pinterest needs a private option, you’re right on. I’ve not pinned things purposely because of that same reason. Luckily for me, I’m not connected with anyone from my “real life”, other than my sister, on there. Maybe you could create a “private” account? Sounds complicated though, but might help.

  13. Mindy says

I wish I could have a private board as well as for a number of reasons, but I just have folder on my computer for things I want to keep to myself. Good luck with the diet coke detox…I never drank soda until I became a stay at home mom & now am addicted to coke zero. I try to give it up, but it is SO hard!!

  14. says

I kicked my daily diet coke habit several years ago. It was really hard at first, but eventually the cravings went away. And I got far, far, far fewer migraines once I gave it up. That still keeps me away! Also, I have to echo your love for the My Fitness Pal app. It’s the greatest.

  15. Stacy says

Can you share what Megan has told you about Diet Coke? Iknow it’s not good for you but maybe the information in black and white will give me the incentive to quit too. It’s my version of crack!

  16. says

Totally cracking up about the Diet Coke thing, but you know my words of ‘encouragement” are only for your good! 🙂 And I totally wish I could make private boards on Pinterest!

  17. says

I drank diet coke for a year and got really sick…turned out I had Thyroid disease but I’m convinced the diet coke made my symptoms much worse than they would have been otherwise.
Hmmm…I wonder if I took the girls and went somewhere for a while hubsy would do our little things that need to get done.

  18. says

Glad you’re back to posting friend (wish I could say the same for myself… haha) Think that making a Pinterest account based on a rando e-mail address would work for a ‘private’ account? I tried that at one point, but used the e-mail addy connected to my FB account, so naturally once the FB folks started signing up, my anonymity disappeared… Can’t wait to hear if you find a solution?
    HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! xxoxoxo

Diet Coke is addicting. I don’t even like it. But my roommates in college did. I would start with one and then be on to like 5 in a day! I swear it is like smoking. It seems like a good idea at the time but one slip and you want another one, or wish you hadn’t. You can do it!

  20. says

I was told once that it takes 3 years to “recover” from a pregnancy- recovery is a broad term. 🙂 I find things on Pinterest and if I don’t want to share it, I go to the orginal link and bookmark it.

  21. says

Giving up diet coke for a whole year? you are my hero!! I don’t think I could do that.

and i had the SAME thoughts about making a certain board private. maybe you could pin some random things to throw everyone off! :p

I gave up cokes a few months ago! It was hard at first but now I don’t crave them at all, except at the movie theater & eating pizza.. Just remember baby steps!

  23. Brittany Z. says

I had the hardest time giving up soda (or pop as we call it in Chicago!), because I too loved that sweet fizzy combo with certain foods. My new healthier obsession, especially now that I’m expecting our 2nd boy, is San Pellegrino Limonata and Aranciata. You can get it at Costco in cans and it has all natural ingredients and is great with pizza or Mexican! 🙂 For a lower calorie option I go with Perrier or soda water with a squeeze of a lemon or lime. It’s much more refreshing than soda too! Can’t wait to see how Hayes’ party comes together! Im sure it will be fabulous!

  24. says

I gave up diet coke 10 months ago and it hadn’t been a problem at all. I drink one cup of coffee per day and then water. Iced tea if I’m out to eat.

But now, all of a sudden, I would do some morally repugnant things for a large Sonic diet coke.

  25. says

Funny on the “private pinning.” I so wish too!

Speaking of pins…did you see the one that says…”given enough diet coke, I could rule the world?”

  26. says

I completely agree on the Pinterest thing! Someone should suggest that! Another idea would be to open up a separate “anonymous” account. Just a thought! It’s especially important for people taking advantage of all of those great wedding ideas on there!

  27. says

I will have to check out that app. I need all the help I can get in that area!

Loved War Horse! I have a long list of movies I want to see right now and I don’t know how in the world I could do it without my popcorn and diet coke. Good luck with that!

  28. says

Just got the My Fitness Pal app, sounds like the perfect motivation to keep me motivated into 2012! Enjoy your last few days with your parents!

  29. megan says

My husband, parents, and 2 best friends have all lost at least 20 pounds with my fitness pal! It really is the perfect diet for those last few pounds. And you can still splurge as long as you exercise because you get extra calories!

  30. says

I am a diet coke addict. I enjoy it so much! Maybe you should do a post on the reasons we aren’t supposed to drink it and why you decided to stop. I could use some persuasion!

  31. Ginny says

Oh no! I am trying to give up (or maybe just cut down) on the Diet Cokes this year, too, but reading all of the comments about Diet Coke just upped my craving – big time! Yikes! 🙂 Will have to check out myfitnesspal. And, I also just right click on pictures I like on pinterest and save them into a folder on my computer! Happy New Year!

My best friend is a hair stylist in Dallas, she works at the Johnny rodriguez salon…I know dallas is huge, but maybe you’ve heard of it being as your patents live there.
