counting blessings vs. checking lists

Isn’t it funny (and kind of a shame) that we rush right past Thanksgiving on our way to Christmas? I’m not criticizing, because I do it, too. My tree isn’t up yet, but I have a list of all of the things I need to get out of storage to get my house ready for Christmas by Friday!

Last year, I wrote a post about how I wish I could slow down during this season. And I’d love to. I really would. But it’s just the time of year when there is so much going on. People love to host parties and there are events to go to and church commitment and volunteer commitments. I’d really be content to sit around every night for the next 40 days and just watch Christmas movies and drink hot chocolate.

But, that’s not what’s happening. I have a list of things to accomplish, groceries to buy before the madness begins, presents to buy and wrap, rooms to decorate and Christmas cards to mail.

And then life happens and it’s never what you plan. We were supposed to take our family Christmas card pictures yesterday afternoon. We all got dressed and ready to go. I was having a particularly good hair day and then it started to rain. So we postponed the pictures until Friday, but that’s just one more thing that didn’t get crossed off my list.

I think these things happen so that God has an opportunity to effectively remind me that He is in control, and I’m not. I don’t know why we had to postpone our pictures, but we did. And we’ll get them done before 2012. It will be fine.

Despite needing to carve out time to send last minute Holiday Market emails, bake Thanksgiving casseroles, attend Hudson’s school party, attend a church Thanksgiving service and get down all of our Christmas decorations, I want to really take time to be thankful.

I mean, I’m always thankful. I do know how much I have to be thankful for and how much I don’t deserve the wonderful blessings in my life. But I don’t want Thanksgiving to be a stop along the way to Christmas celebrations.

Part of the reason I like to do things early is so that we can make Christmas last as long as possible and really be able to enjoy it. But I do love Thanksgiving and what a great day it is and what it means. It’s a holiday that always seems to be all about the food. But I think we “feast” to celebrate all that we have to be thankful for!

I’d like to start a new tradition where we all write what we’re thankful for throughout the month of November as we prepare for Thanksgiving. Then we can read them all on Thanksgiving Day. (I’m thinking my mom tried to do this with us when I was in high school and I laughed at her, but now it’s something I really want to do!)

So, in the spirit of Thanksgiving traditions, please answer a few questions for me.

1. Do you eat stuffing or dressing? (We eat dressing)

2. Did you ever dress up as a pilgrim at school? (I totally did and need to share the picture with you)

3. What is your favorite dish at Thanksgiving?

4. Are you all about the turkey? Or all about the sides? (It’s definitely all about the sides for me)

5. Do you have a pumpkin pie at your house? Do you eat it? (I like pumpkin pie, but I know a lot of people don’t)

6. Do you watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in your pajamas while cooking every year? (It’s my favorite thing about Thanksgiving)

7. What other traditions do you associate with Thanksgiving? (We watch Christmas Vacation before bed every year on Thanksgiving Day)

    2. Did you ever dress up as a pilgrim at school? Oh my gosh yes, the girls had to be Pilgrims and I was so upset because I thought the Indians were cooler 🙂

    3. What is your favorite dish at Thanksgiving? Any of the sides! Probably my mom’s cornbread dressing or my boyfriend’s mom’s shoepeg corn casserole.

    4. Are you all about the turkey? Or all about the sides? All about the sides.

    5. Do you have a pumpkin pie at your house? Do you eat it? It’s not my favorite, I’m a pecan pie kind of girl.

    6. Do you watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in your pajamas while cooking every year? Absolutely, is there someone who DOESN’T do this??

    7. What other traditions do you associate with Thanksgiving? Thanksgiving is a toss-up, because my boyfriend and I usually go to his parents’ house for Thanksgiving and mine for Christmas.

I can’t really answer those questions because I live in Belgium and we don’t have Thanksgiving here. However this year there is an American couple in our church and we are celebrating Thanksgiving with them. Yay! I can already say it will be all about the sides for me, not the turkey. And we will be watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade too. I can’t wait!

  3. says

I couldn’t not answer these questions… they are so fun!

    1. Do you eat stuffing or dressing? Ohh… well we don’t do stuffing but I’m not positive what dressing is. Is dressing the same thing as gravy? We have that. (Why am I so uneducated?)

    2. Did you ever dress up as a pilgrim at school? Nope, I was an Indian.

    3. What is your favorite dish at Thanksgiving? Dumplings, an old family recipe. They look gross but taste like heaven to me.

    4. Are you all about the turkey? Or all about the sides? TURKEY!

    5. Do you have a pumpkin pie at your house? Do you eat it? We don’t have it and I’ve NEVER eaten it. How is that possible?

    6. Do you watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in your pajamas while cooking every year? YES, I never miss a minute.

    7. What other traditions do you associate with Thanksgiving? We usually eat shrimp, sausage, and cheese for brunch while we watch the parade. MMMM FOOD!

    1. I don’t eat stuffing or dressing, but we always have dressing never stuffing at our Thanksgiving meal.
    2. I think I always dressed up as an Indian!
    3. My favorite dish is probably the fried turkey and then of course the desserts 🙂
    4. I am all about the turkey if it’s fried and has cajun seasoning.
    5. I believe there has been pumpkin pie, but I’m not a fan. Our family fights over sweet potato pie.
    6. I love watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and yes I am in my pajamas cooking.
    7. No traditions yet, but as a newly married couple we hope to start some traditions of our own soon!

    Happy Thanksgiving!

  5. says

    1. We call it stuffing. And I LOVE it.
    2. Not that I recall.
    3. My favorite dish is the mashed potatoes. Which sounds like a really bizarre thing to be excited about, but my mom makes these AMAZING creamy garlic mashed potatoes for basically all holiday meals and I LOOOOVE them.
    4. Oh man…I don’t know if I can choose. My family is full of amazing cooks, and I love every bit of Thanksgiving dinner. I hope my uncle fries the turkey again this year! And my mom and grandma always do a fantastic job with all of the sides. I always leave the table stuffed to the max. Yeah, I don’t think I can choose
    5. Surprisingly enough, we don’t really do pie at our house. If we have a dessert, it’s usually my grandma’s banana pudding.
    6. Well, seeing as how I’m still one of the “kids” in the family, I don’t cook. 🙂 I used to watch the Macy’s Parade every year WHILE my mom cooked, but once I hit my teenage years, the dinners got moved to later in the day because my aunt’s a nurse so my mom didn’t start quite so early, and I decided I like my sleep too much to wake up for it. 🙂
    7. The only one I can think of is we usually decorate the house for Christmas the two days after Thanksgiving. But this year we’re going to the last NC State football game of the season this Saturday, so who knows when it’ll get done!

  6. says

    1. We are proud Southerners, so we definitely have dressing!
    2. I was most definitely a pilgrim. I remember making the vest out of a paper grocery bag.
    3. My favorite dish is my Granny’s cornbread dressing.
    4. Definitely sides- rice and gravy and dressing are my favorites.
    5. We don’t ever have pumpkin pie. For some reason, our desserts are always non-traditional.
    6. We definitely watch the parade!
    7. I also enjoy watching the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. I think it comes on right after the parade. 🙂

  7. Becky says

What’s the difference between stuffing and dressing? I thought it was the same thing. My mom always called it dressing, but since marrying someone who’s mom cooked straight from the box, I’ve gotten used to calling it stuffing. (but I’m making it from scratch this year myself!)

My favorite side is the brown and serve rolls. Seriously, those totally make the meal for me and my whole family. Our best holiday tradition in my family was getting up reeeeally early on the day after Thanksgiving, not for Black Friday shopping, but to see who could get the few leftover rolls. It was a fight to the finish!

Love the parade in our PJ’s, but this year we are going to go for a morning hike and then come home to watch our Packers hopefully beat the Lions (our hometown team.) We’ve been waiting all year for this one!

  8. says

    1. Do you eat stuffing or dressing? Dressing! Secret family recipe 😉
    2. Did you ever dress up as a pilgrim at school? Of course, using black trash bags, no less.
    3. What is your favorite dish at Thanksgiving? Sweet potato casserole with marshmallows on top.
    4. Are you all about the turkey? Or all about the sides? Sides. The turkey is better as leftovers in a turkey sandwich.
    5. Do you have a pumpkin pie at your house? Do you eat it? Pumpkin pie and pecan (puh-con) pie are staples.
    6. Do you watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in your pajamas while cooking every year? Yes! And I was in the parade my freshman year of high school with our marching band. I was in the color guard. It rained that year and we froze! But it was a great experience!
    7. What other traditions do you associate with Thanksgiving? Football and late afternoon movies.

  9. says

    1. My dad’s family is from west Texas – we definitely eat homemade cornbread dressing!
    2. I did dress up but I probably didn’t enjoy it – I was a super shy kiddo!
    3. I think a better question is what DON’T I like at Thanksgiving! I love green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, pineapple au gratin, broccoli cheese casserole, dressing…all of it.
    4. I love ham with dressing and gravy all in one bite.
    5. We usually have a pumpkin pie AND a pecan pie and I love the pumpkin. Yum.
    6. I don’t watch the Thanksgiving parade, but that sounds like a good idea!
    7. My husband and I always watch the Texas/A&M game because we are a house divided. Whoever wins the game gets to put their team’s Christmas ornaments front and center on the Christmas tree and the other team’s ornaments go in the back and on the bottom. Last year was the first year in a LONG time that my Aggies won and I cherished every moment of putting those ornaments in the front right under the star!

  10. says

    1. Do you eat stuffing or dressing? —we eat Stuffing! We make all kinds of different ones..but mhubby and I are making Garlic Bread sausage stuffing this year…I totally can’t eat stuffing out of the bird..it grosses me out..ha
    2. Did you ever dress up as a pilgrim at school? I think in elementary school we made pilgrim and indian hats and wore those, never the full costume.
    3. What is your favorite dish at Thanksgiving? My favorite is the Ocean Spray canned cranberry gel–ha you know the kind that comes out in one giant piece that looks like the can itself..haha

    4. Are you all about the turkey? Or all about the sides? (sides sides sides..if I had my choice, I would eat HAM on Thanksgiving!
    5. Do you have a pumpkin pie at your house? Do you eat it? (We usually have pumpkin cheesecake, I usually opt for Apple Pie..not a huge pumpking pie or cheesecake person)
    6. Do you watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in your pajamas while cooking every year? we haven’t in the passed, but I believe we will this year.. My boys are 2.5 and 7 months and I think the 2.5 year old old will LOVE IT.
    7. What other traditions do you associate with Thanksgiving? My husband plays in the Family and Friends TURKEY BOWL–FOOTBALL GAME early in the morning, and I sit at home and scope out the black friday shopping ads!

  11. says

    1. We eat LOTS of stuffing.
    2. Of course I dressed up as Pilgrim at school. I remember making those vests and the hats. I also got to dress up as an Indian Princess one year. I think channeling Phocahontas was my favorite. Pigtail braids and all!
    3. I think my favorite dish is my mother’s homemade stuffing! She makes it entirely from scratch. Italian sausage and dried cherries are her little secret.
    4. Definitely all about the sides.
    5. We always have pumpkin pie! I like it and I eat it, but I think I like the idea of it more than the actual pie itself.
    6. I LOVE Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade. It’s one of my favorites. I always look forward to the Rockettes!
    7. Other family traditions: My sisters, dad, husband and I run the Charlotte Turkey Trot every year. We get up bright and early, and head to South Park for the annual run. I blast the Christmas music and trot along for 5 miles. Then we go home and COOK! We always watch a Christmas movie on Thanksgiving night. Our favorite is The Santa Clause 🙂 Another fun tradition- my little sister always makes 12 layer rainbow jello! It’s truly a work of art.

    Happy Thanksgiving week! xoxo

    1. We eat dressing.

    2. I don’t think so

    3. Probably sweet potato casserole

    4. Definitely the sides!!

    5. We never had it but I do love it. Nobody else does though 🙁

    6. I love the parade!

    7. Football, football and more football

  13. says

    1. We have stuffing or dressing, depending on the family member.
    2. I never was a pilgrim but we definitely made vests out of paper bags in school and headbands too.
    3. My favorite dish is a tie between the turkey and the mashed potatoes. Cooked carrots would be a close third.
    4. I love it all- who am I to judge???
    5. I don’t love pumpkin pie. I much prefer apple. My husband’s family always has pecan and pumpkin, so when it’s our year with them, I make an apple pie or apple crisp at home the next week.
    6. The parade is my favorite part of Thanksgiving as well. We don’t always get to watch it as we travel a lot, but when I can watch it, I love it!!
    7. Putting out my Christmas dishes (i LOVE them!!); long walks outside with the family, and leftovers.

    5. Do you have a pumpkin pie at your house? Do you eat it? Of course, and yes I do!
    6. Do you watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in your pajamas while cooking every year? As long as I’m not at my mom’s house. She has some vendetta against that particular parade and forces her household to watch Houston’s. Which ISN’T as good.
    7. What other traditions do you associate with Thanksgiving? FIGHTIN’ TEXAS AGGIE FOOTBALL– for this year at least. Too bad the *other* team doesn’t want to keep that tradition alive. SO sad.

  15. Gretchen says

    1. What Southerner eats stuffing?? Blech! Dressing all the way!
    2. Yes, I dressed up as a pilgrim many times in a hat we made in class.
    3. Dressing is my favorite dish!
    4. I’m all about the sides…particularly the dressing (do you see a theme here??) 🙂 Aaaannnd the mac & cheese, cranberry sauce, broccoli & cheese casserole, pineapple casserole, squash casserole, butter beans (aka: baby limas), deviled eggs–um, yeah, the sides are my fav & think I could really do without the bird!
    5. No pumpkin pie at our house, but I do like it. Our dessert of choice is my grandmama’s “famous” chocolate eclair–layers of whipped cream/pudding and graham cracker yumminess with a homemade chocolate sauce on top. Mmmm!
    6. We normally watch the parade while getting ready to go to my grandmama’s…but this year everyone is coming to our house so I may try the PJs! I enjoy the dog show after the parade too.
    7. I normally decorate the house for Christmas Thanksgiving night & on Friday (I don’t brave the Black Friday crowds)….and I eat leftover dressing for dinner. 🙂 I also break out my Aaron Neville Christmas CD, it’s one of my favorites. Oh & I can’t forget–we REALLY gear up for USC vs. Clemson! I’m a Gamecock & my hubby is a Tiger so it’s interesting to say the least! Go Gamecocks!!

    Happy Thanksgiving, Erin!

    4. Are you all about the turkey? Or all about the sides? ALL about the sides.

    5. Do you have a pumpkin pie at your house? Do you eat it? We do have one and I like it, though that’s a recent development.

    6. Do you watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in your pajamas while cooking every year? Definitely watch the parade, and I may or not be in my pajamas while I do 🙂

    7. What other traditions do you associate with Thanksgiving? When we’re with my Mom’s extended family, we always go bowling on the day after Thanksgiving! Perfect activity for all ages.

  17. says

    We are all dressing!
I was an Indian if I remember correctly.
Mac and cheese and pie are my favorites.
    I’m all about the sides.
    I don’t like pumpkin pie.
We watch the parade and then the dog show!
Black Friday shopping is part of our holiday as well.

  18. says

    1) I think we call it both stuffing and dressing…. but I can’t stand it, so I don’t eat it at all.
    2) I don’t remember my schools ever doing anything except coloring a pilgrim every year. Pretty lame, now that I know what’s out there =)
    3) My family makes this dish that we call “The Pink Stuff”. It has a name, I’m not sure what it is… I think it’s called ambrosia in most places. I think everybody makes it, and everybody calls it something different. But, it is always the first thing that gets put on the menu, and it’s THE MOST fought over leftover.
    4) I’m totally about the sides…. mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole and the pink stuff…to be exact
    5) I’m pretty sure that we have a pumpkin pie ever year, but I don’t think it ever really gets eaten. I am not a fan of it, at all. It’s a texture thing. The flavor is delicious, but I can’t handle the texture. That’s also the same reason I don’t eat the dressing/stuffing.
    6) The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade is one of the absolute best things about Thanksgiving. Hands down.
    7) After we eat my family always goes out to a movie. Now that we’re all adults, and have significant others (and Zoe, the one grandchild) we take up almost an entire row at the theater! Driving home from the movie we put the first Christmas CD on, and then on Black Friday we decorate for Christmas. It’s one of my very favorite traditions.

  19. says

    We eat dressing
No pilgrim for me but I totally would have
My grandmothers cranberry sauce-3 cups of sugar and oranges, lemons, and pineapples
I love turkey but it’s all about the sides!
We have pumpkin pie but I rarely eat it- too stuffed 😉
I love to watch the parade but sometimes we’re on the road at that time
We always go to the tree lot the day after Thanksgiving despite my husbands grumbling.. Then it Christmas Vacation– “lot of sap, lot of sap”

    Happy Thanksgiving!

    1. Do you eat stuffing or dressing? We call it stuffing but we don’t put it in the turkey!

    2. Did you ever dress up as a pilgrim at school? I think so…I need to ask my Mom if she has pictures!

    3. What is your favorite dish at Thanksgiving? Cranberry sauce or sweet potato casserole. YUM

    4. Are you all about the turkey? Or all about the sides? I think I’m 50/50 here I love both!

    5. Do you have a pumpkin pie at your house? Do you eat it? We do have pumpkin pie and I like it, but I don’t love it.

    6. Do you watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in your pajamas while cooking every year? (I do watch it but it’s usually while I am getting ready to go to my grandmothers)

    7. What other traditions do you associate with Thanksgiving? Yes! One of my favorite memories is from when my sister and I actually went to NY and saw the parade in person. So awesome!

I won’t actually be at home with my family this year. My husband and I are staying in our new home in SC and then going up for Christmas for a little over a week. I’m a little sad but excited to start some new traditions! 🙂

  31. Amy says

    1. Definitely stuffing. But never actually stuffed inside the bird. My hubby and I started hosting Thanksgiving a few years ago and it’s one of my favorite dishes to make now. I have a fabulous crock pot recipe (one less thing to force into the oven!).

    2. Oh my goodness, yes!!!! Thanks for the memory! We made hats out of paper every year. I think we had the option of being a pilgrim vs. indian and I always chose pilgrim. I’m going to see if I can dig up pictures!

    3. Tough one. This is horrible, but about the only time I eat broccoli/cheese/rice casserole is at Thanksgiving, so maybe that? I’m also a huge fan of the rolls. My mom used to order rolls from our local hospital (weird, right? They used to also run a catering business and people actually voluntarily ate hospital food. Gotta love small towns!) and they were the best! I’m considering making homemade this year, but the frozen Rhodes variety are so easy.

    4. It totally used to be all about the sides. But, then, my hubby started brining our turkey for a few days and using an herb butter and all sorts of other yummy things that make the bird AH-MAZING. So, now, I’d have to say turkey.

    5. Of course! But I usually don’t eat it. For as long as I can remember, my mom has always been in charge of the pumpkin pie. Supposedly, it’s fabulous. I’m just not the biggest pumpkin fan. Rumor is she’ll be making me a strawberry pie this year. Yum!

    6. In our current house, it’s a little tough to watch TV while cooking. As kids, though, we always watched it.

    7. We’ve always played games as a family after the big meal. I love the down time after we’re all stuffed and just relaxing together. More often than not, there is usually a nap involved, as well. 🙂

    Happy Thanksgiving!!

  32. Colleen says

    1. We eat stuffing and my Mom makes the best. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.
    2. Yes. I dressed up when I was in school
    3. My favorite dish is a tie between stuffing and Sweet Potato Casserole. Yum
    4. I am all about the sides! Don’t even need the Turkey but of course we have one.
    5. We don’t usually have pumpkin pie because no one in my family really cares for it. We love pecan pie and chocolate chip pie.
    6. My Mom and I usually just talk and laugh about funny things that happened on previous Thanksgiving. I love sharing memories and making new ones with family.
    7. We always watch Christmas Vacation on Thanksgiving too! It is our favorite Christmas movie!

  33. says

I am looking forward to Thanksgiving more than ever this year. I’m usually just ready for Christmas holiday but I want both to last as long as possible this year! And we are that cheesy family that writes down what we’re thankful for every Thanksgiving – I love it. We go around the room and read them aloud – even the kiddos. There are over 20 of us, so it takes awhile but it’s the most special time. I always love hearing what my nephews and nieces are thankful for and there are always tears at some point. We’re all bawl-bags. LOL

    1. Do you eat stuffing or dressing? (We eat dressing)

    2. Did you ever dress up as a pilgrim at school? (Not that I can recall.)

    3. What is your favorite dish at Thanksgiving? (Usually dressing. This year I can’t wait for the roasted brussels sprouts!)

    6. Do you watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in your pajamas while cooking every year? (Yes! And I wish I were there every year! LOL Maybe one day we’ll take the girls. )

    7. What other traditions do you associate with Thanksgiving? (Sharing what we’re thankful for and lots and lots of cooking/baking with my Mama!)

Happy Thanksgiving, Erin. I’m thankful for your sweet-self. You have a special gift of sharing your heart through this lovely blog of yours. Always giving me something to think about!

  34. Michele says

    1. We eat FILLING!! And the argument is always “stuffing or filling?” Is the dressing a southern thing? I’m an East Coast girl and have never heard it called that. Dressing is for salads 🙂

    2. Yes! And the Indians used paper bags to make their vests.

    3. My grandma’s cream of spinach! Oh, I can’t wait.

    4. All about the sides! But we also have a huge ham at dinner, and so I’m all about that too.

    5. We do have pumpkin pie, and this year my boyfriend offered to make it from scratch. I don’t like any sort of pie (except maybe chocolate and peanut butter!) but my dad LOVES pumpkin pie.

    6. I loooove the parade! And yes, I’m usually in sweats.

    7. My 2 best high school girlfriends and I go shopping every year on Black Friday. We’ve been going since before we could drive! We never make a plan (other than what time to meet), and we just go for it. We have made some amazing memories!!

    6. Do you watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in your pajamas while cooking every year? I do not get much time to sit down and watch the parade but I have it on in the background while I am cooking and I always stop what I am doing to watch Santa arrive.
    7. What other traditions do you associate with Thanksgiving? It’s my favorite Holiday. To me, it is about Family and sharing the events with those that you love. My grandmother has been gone for 15 years this Thanksgiving; we always honor her by making it an annual tradition to make her homemade noodles with my mom and daughter a week before and place them in the freezer until Thanksgiving morning. And Thanksgiving Morning I spend in the kitchen cooking side by side with my husband.

  38. says

    1. Do you eat stuffing or dressing?
There are few things I look forward to throughout the year than cornbread dressing. Since moving to Boston and being away from my mama’s dressing, I have mastered her recipe and now have the boyfriend’s family eating more of that than their traditional Yankee stuffing– love that 🙂

    2. Did you ever dress up as a pilgrim at school?
No, though I do remember having to turn a brown paper bag into an unfortunate Native American vest.

    3. What is your favorite dish at Thanksgiving?
Cornbread Dressing or Green Bean Casserole. Or Broccoli Rice and Cheese Casserole.

    4. Are you all about the turkey? Or all about the sides?
I take enough turkey to be polite to whomever is hosting… and then pile up the sides. It’s once a year that these treats are made, and I shall enjoy to the fullest.

I’m not a pumpkin pie fan but actually made my first one from scratch this year… and enjoyed it. Who knew?

    7. What other traditions do you associate with Thanksgiving?
The Dallas Cowboys always play, so we always watch that. And then we watch It’s A Wonderful Life for the first time before bed (though I could totally jump on the Christmas Vacation bandwagon… I cannot wait any longer for Clark and Eddie).

  39. Diane says

My favorite Thanksgiving tradition is actually the day after. A slice of chilled pumpkin pie for breakfast on Friday morning with real whipped cream! Nothing better.

    4) Sides forever! I’m trying to start a more vegetarian lifestyle, and I definitely won’t miss the turkey.
    5) Love me some pumpkin pie. My goal every year is to eat a slice a day for my entire Thanksgiving break. I’ve also been known to have it for breakfast the day after Thanksgiving.
    6) I always try to catch the parade- in my good years I watch it at the gym while I work out to make room for the feast!
    7) Definitely football. My parents are also medical people, so they usually work Thanksgiving so they can have christmas off. My siblings, husband and I always spend Thanksgiving night at my parents house and eat frozen pizza in our pajamas while they work. I love those people 🙂

  44. Melissa says

    1. Do you eat stuffing or dressing? Dressing. I’ve never had stuffing even though one year I begged my mom to stuff the turkey. My granddaddy loudly announced he wasn’t eating anything out of a bird’s butt. And then my cousins laughed because granddaddy said butt.

After dinner is over, all of the girls (mom, aunts, grandmother, cousins) would sit around the dining room nibbling on leftover hors d’oevres, pie, and play dominos or cards. 4)SIDES!

Then you are responsible for making a placemat for that person {while watching the parade!} My mom also required that all us kids made {or help make} one side dish.
