mommy needs a sick day

In fact, we all need a sick day. Every one in our house is under the weather, but I thought I’d do a really quick update with iPhone photos.

1. Hudson got tubes in his ears back in April and he got sick for the first time since then. At first we thought it was just congestion and then I noticed that his ears were draining. The tubes are doing their job, but we still needed to see a doctor. In the mean time, TC got sick, Hayes had a little cold (thank goodness it’s not worse for little Hayes) and now I have it. And if Hudson feels anything like I feel, he has extreme sinus pain and pressure and breathing during the night is pretty difficult. Hudson’s doctor gave him an inhaler with a mask to help clear up his lungs and we also got some antibiotic drops for his ears. Here’s a picture of him using the nebulizer in the doctor’s office. He kept trying to suck his thumb while wearing the mask. So sad!

2. I bit the bullet and dyed my hair back to my natural color. I haven’t ever really seen this color since I’ve been highlighting my hair since the 8th grade. Right now I’m really loving it! But I also don’t feel well enough to really care! But I think I’ll definitely keep it like this for a long time.

3. We got Hudson’s school picture proofs back and I just died laughing when I saw them. Apparently he wanted to go first in his class, so he marched up there and then froze. I’m not at all surprised that he didn’t smile, but I can’t stop laughing at the way he is posed and at his little hands in his lap.

4. I ran to Hobby Lobby on Saturday because all the Christmas and Halloween stuff was on sale. I needed things for Holiday Market decorations and I was going to try to find a couple things for our Halloween party. I found the most adorable plates and lots of Christmas stuff!

5. Erin Condren is on One Kings Lane today starting at 11:00 a.m. If you need an invite, just click here! I don’t know what’s going to be on the One Kings Lane sale, but I’m thinking there will be gift labels, gift cards, lucite trays. Oh my! And I know that Erin Condren is coming out with an iPhone cover. Merry Christmas to me!

Also, visit Jenna, AP, Jennifer, and NCF for Erin Condren giveaways this week!

6. So, yeah. We’re just hanging out at home. Watching Aladdin and Shrek on repeat. Hudson and Hayes are just lying around and doing a little bit of playing. Hopefully we’ll all start feeling a lot better really soon!

hoping you all feel better soon! your hair looks fabulous, you look so much younger (not that you looked “old” before) but if i saw you on the street with no children in tow i would think you were young 20’s!

  4. says

Erin, the haircolor looks great on you, it really makes your eyes POP! You are so lucky you can pull off both blonde and brunette.

Hoping everyone is on the mend. And thanks for sharing Hudson’s school picture, it gave me a good chuckle today.

Hope ya’ll feel better soon. Your darker new hair color is super cute.
I have an appointment Friday to do the same. I LOVE Hobby Lobby!
I have already gotten some of those glass ornaments to fill with crinkle and
draw monograms, etc on with paint pens for Christmas.

Love the new color! But then again you’d still be beautiful with green hair:) I wish you could pick out my clothes and fix my hair everyday.

These type of days for the days I’m extra glad my parents live close by. Moms never get sick days! It’s nice to know I’ve got someone close by that can come and give me a couple of hours to regroup. Hope you guys feel better soon!

Your hair…… makes you look so different! It’s awesome.

    Hudson’s picture is hilarious. 🙂

  9. nic says

I think the hair color looks very sophisticated. I like it a LOT. Also, I totally giggled at Hudson’s school photo.

Side note: You’ve been highlighting since eighth grade?? Dang! I knew zip about beauty/fashion at that age (and my mom definitely wouldn’t have sprung for highlights for me!). Enjoy your new/old ‘do!

So sorry to hear you all are under the weather…I just did a post on Sunday with a similar title…great minds think alike! Our family feels your pain after our week of sickness last week! LOVE LOVE LOVE your darker hair…what a great change! Looks like Madison and I will be making a trip to Hobby Lobby after naptime 😉
    XOXO

I have also been dying/highlighting my hair since 8th grade. About 9 months ago I decided to try to do it myself (haven’t done that since 8th grade either!) Being a busy mom, it just pains me to go sit in a chair for 2-3 hours – I’d rather be with my family! So I’ve decided to go natural and see. So far so good. I love the time and money I’m saving.
And I LOVE when you post photos of yourself! I think Im about the same “build/size” as you and your photos always give me outfit/fashion ideas/inspiration!

I’m sorry that your house has been invaded by The Sickies! I hope everyone is feeling 100% better very, very soon! There’s something about being a Mom.. and being sick. It’s like having the plague! Hope you feel better real soon! But let’s talk about your hair for a minute.. It looks AH-MAZING!! Love, love, love it!!! I’m so glad you decided to take the plunge and go back to your natural color! And I love that open cardi- the color looks great with your hair! 🙂

  13. Paige says

Love the new hair color and Hudson’s school picture just cracks me up – he looks like such a mature little boy with his serious face and his hands in his lap! Hope all of your family gets to feeling better soon!

  14. says

That color looks great on you! I’m going back to my natural color in 2 weeks…I’m still nervous but I feel like it will be a lot easier to maintain than blonde highlights! Sorry you guys are sick. The stomach bug has hit 2/3 of my house and I’m praying I don’t get it! Feel better soon!

  15. says

I love, love, lover your hair color! My hair color is my natural color and has been for several years, but I often wonder how I’d look with a darker color. I did add some lowlights this year, but they didn’t make much of a difference.

I know how hard it is to live a normal life when you’re all feeling crummy! I hope everyone feels better soon! Gavin and I are both battling a cough, but thankfully are feeling okay otherwise.

    Feel better!

  16. says

I must say that I LOVE the brown hair on you! You look gorgeous!

Does Hudson have to keep using the nebulizer? (We went through something similar with my son when he was about one where he had to use one too)

Hope you all feel better soon!

  17. says

Like every other person on here I will say that the brown color is beautiful. It is hard to pick between blond and brown hair on you because both look really good. I just got back from a trip to Paris (blogged about it today if you feel like reading) and really missed reading your blog.

  18. says

I SOOO need a copy of Hudson’s school picture! He looks so handsome in his seersucker, polo, and New Balances! I just adore this picture 🙂

I am just loving your hair more and more every single day! It looks so fab on you, girl.

I hope your household is starting to feel better! Until then, enjoy the DisneyFest! xoxo

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your hair!!! 🙂
I also think its cute how Hudson sat up straight when he was posing for his pic. Most kids slouch!
Hope your family gets well soon!!

  21. says

Well, God chose our natural hair colors for a reason – because they look the best on us!!! Your hair looks great! Beautiful! AND, going darker for Fall is SO the thing to do, lol. Sorry your boy is sick, hope he gets better soon!

  22. says

Sorry to hear that you’re sick! At least it sounds like your kids have good taste in children’s movies : )
P.S. Hudson’s school photos are HILARIOUS! So cute and so funny!

  23. says

Your hair looks fantastic! I definitely went a little crazy with the One Kings Lane sale today, it was too hard to resist. I hope you all feel much better soon!

Love the hair, and need more pictures please!

I’m sorry that y’all aren’t feeling well- Hudson looks pretty cute with the mask on though. Hahaha, the school picture is one of the most adorable things I have seen in a long time!

  25. MK says

YOUR HAIR IS AMAZING! You look like a teenager, people are going to think that you’re Hudson and Hayes’ babysitter

  26. says

When my son got his tubes (all three sets) the doctor gave us a standing prescription for drops. When his ears drain we just put the drops in for as long as they’re draining plus 3 days. His drain quite frequently due to allergies.

That school picture of Hudson is so cute. He looks so serious. Poor thing.

    Hope y’all feel better soon!

  27. shelly says

LOVE your new (or old?) hair color! I think this same bug has swept through Texas and it’s a nastey one. I hope you all start to feel better soon.

  28. says

  31. Becky says

As soon as I saw how many comments were already posted, I knew they were all going to be about your hair. I love it, but aren’t you concerned it’s going to just wash out? That’s what always happens to me when I go darker. What’s your game plan?

    Feel better!

  32. says

I hope y’all start feeling better so soon! You and your hair are gorgeous! And I love that light blue on you too, beautiful! Hudson and Hayes, adorable! I love that pic of them together on the floor, oh they will be such buddies and it will be so wonderful and fun to watch and listen to their little conversations, so sweet and cute! 🙂 (thank you for the shout out! ;))

  33. Melissa says

    xo,
    Melissa

  34. Kimberly says

Sorry everyone is under the weather…that’s the worst! But I love your hair color! I think it suits you very well 🙂

  35. says

Your hair is GORGEOUS that color! It definitely works well on you. I am a natural dirty blondish? (I don’t even really know any more) and I always toy with the idea of dying it brown just to not have to deal with the highlights all of the time! SO expensive. It looks great on you, maybe I will give it a go-sie. Hope you and the boys feel better!!

  36. Erin says

Yes, you’ve heard this but WOW your hair looks great and makes you look younger, (not that you’re old by any extent of the definition) Plus you look refreshed! Good job biting that bullet!

  37. says

I hope your gang is feeling better! Hudson uses the mask like a champ. They want to put tubes in my sons ears but I am so scared to go through with it. Good luck nursing everyone back to health.

  38. says

I really love your hair like that. That’s my natural color, too…and how much easier it’d be to maintain! 🙂 Hope everyone is feeling better!

  39. Beth says

Haha- the school picture is precious and too funny! Hope you and your crew get to feeling better soon. Just wanted to tell you that the new brown hair looks gorgeous! Your hair always looks so healthy and pretty (blonde or brunette), and I was wondering if you would do a post all about your hair sometime soon. I know that you have done a post with a link to the “curl down” video. But I think it would also be nice to hear what the texture of your hair is naturally with no styling, what products you use, what tools (brushes, size of curling iron/hot rollers, etc) you use, what your weekly routine is (do you wash every day, every other day…), etc. My hair is about the length of yours, thick and pretty curly naturally. Unfortunately, I’ve spent too much time with my flat iron and would like some styling tips and products that are healthier for my hair. I’m envious of your silky locks! 🙂

  40. KT says

I never ever comment, but just really like your heart dark! I think you look younger and thinner. Not sure how that’s possible, but you do. love it.

  41. says

Oh my goodness your hair has me thinking even more about going back to my roots – and by back, I mean going to the root color that I have NEVER seen (went dark blonde/ light brown in my teens when I was already highlighting) save for a few unfortunate times when I didn’t get in to my stylist right away. It looks great on you!

Hope everyone is starting to feel better

  42. says

Erin!!! Your hair looks amazing dark! Good thing I’m doing some blog catching up tonight because I didn’t even know you had dyed it. LOVE!!! Hope you and the boys are all feeling better! xo

  43. says

To be honest, I had to take a triple look at that picture of you with your hair to even recognize you. It looks great! I love it!

Hudson’s school picture… I about died. So cute.

  44. says

You poor muffins. I hope you all feel better asap!!!

BTW I LOVE your hair dark!!! I’ve been contemplating dying mine to match my natural color (somewhere between pee yellow and dirty blonde), but I just don’t know if I can handle the fullness of it. I did dye mine dark brown last year and just LOVED IT. Until it started growing out and fading to my natural boringness.
