One of my blogging friends, Laura from iGriza, is quite the accomplished entrepreneur! I couldn’t wait to share this with all of you. As a mom who is slightly entrepreneurial, I have a huge soft spot in my heart for other moms who are creative, have great ideas and are working hard to put those ideas into play.

Laura is obsessed with all Mac products. She is the iPhone guru. And I guess now she is also the iPad guru. She also knows everything there is to know about all Baby Jogger products. (You may recall that our double stroller is the Baby Jogger City Select.)

Laura has created the iLatch for iPad 1 and iPad 2. This is an amazing necessity (yes I said necessity) for all of you iPad-using, stroller-pushing moms! It’s also great for hooking up your iPad so your little one can watch his or her movies in the grocery cart, in the pack ‘n play or in the car. The iLatch clips on to so many different places… the head rest or restaurant chair to name a couple more. Just take a look for yourself.

But, first, here’s the thing. Laura needs your help! If this is something you believe in and you want to see it succeed, she has to reach $7,000 in donations before September 26.  With a little over $2,000 to go in 13 days, I want to help her!

To read more about the iLatch and to donate to help Laura, click here… The iLatch iPad case for iPad 1 and iPad 2. All you have to donate is $1.00.

The iLatch will be available in late fall and right now they are accepting pre-orders if you go here and pledge $25, you will get the iLatch in the mail. The regular-priced iLatch will be $50, so you’d be getting a great discount!

The way this invention came about was when she was traveling, she realized how helpful the ipad was for keeping her son happy and calm in public spaces like the airport , but there was never anywhere to put the ipad that was the right height or wasn’t in the way. She realized that hanging it would be awesome and it is.
You can hang it from your stroller bar, grocery cart, car headrest, airplane seat back, a towel rack, a lamp shade, pack n play… basically ANYWHERE.
You can do this all one with hand, so that you can still be holding baby, but moving or removing the ilatch.
I think it’s pretty remarkable. Learn more about it by visiting the sites below and following iLatch on Twitter.

I’ll check with hubby’s ex to confirm that she is buying the older kiddos ipads from Santa and I’ll order these! I’m not very techy but the kids would love these for trips in the car or on planes! Good Luck!

personally i dont think its necessary that a child especially a baby needs to be entertained by movies or games on an ipad 24/7. in the pnp? really? on the stroller?? what about looking around and counting birds or trees or learning what color that flower is instead of watching tv in.the.stroller. I can see it being helpful on a headrest of a car for long trips but that’s about it. in the grocery cart?!? really? I obviously cant say i agree with the other sales pitch notes.

sara- I don’t think Laura is trying to entertain kids 24/7, but there are times (we’ve all been there) when our children are having a hard time entertaining themselves in the car for LONG road trips or on an airplane… or in an airport for a layover. i don’t think the intention of having it in the pack ‘n play is just for pure entertainment, but I know that while i’m trying to get dressed and i have to confine my baby (not my toddler) in the pack ‘n play, when he’s a little older this would be great because he could watch his video for 30 minutes while i dry my hair. i know that my toddler is very anti-grocery store trips these days and can sometimes turn an ordinary shopping trip into a loud adventure. so i think it would be nice for times like that.

i totally stalk you blog from louisiana! we miss south carolina like crazy and ready your blog makes me feel more at home! maybe one day we will be back 🙂 i love the ilatch concept!!! my 2 1/2 year old needs this for our car trips! a great plus for an ipad vs in car entertainment is when you stop at a gas station the movie keeps going; amazing!! thanks for the post 🙂

That is a great invention for a VERY long trip I guess, but I would never hook it up to my childs stroller, or buggy in the store. That concept is down right scary to me. I have expectations that my child will be wiggly and hard to keep calm at times, but it is also good for them to learn self control, and know that they are expected to behave. And I want them to have an appriciation of the natural world. Love your blog. 🙂

Usually I love all the products on here, but I have to say, this thing scares me! I think there is great value in a child learning to entertain himself — with toys, books, blocks, or just their own thoughts! There is something really scary and sad about just putting electronics in their face to keep them quiet. Do we have to force them into the matrix completely so soon?

Sorry Erin I love your blog, but I have to say this really scares me — especially that great moms like you think this is a good idea!

Gosh Erin! Just saw all of these comments and I am sorry it got you so many negative comments. I never explained all of the details, because I just assumed everyone knows that it is not meant to babysit the child, or interrupt development. It is meant for special situations and the people who don’t understand may not have children old enough to have experienced those situations yet! Everyone has different ways to parent though, and I respect that and their ambition!

Headed over here from Laura’s site and saw some pretty negative comments about the iLatch. I read Laura’s blog frequently and I think she’s an absolutely fabulous and very hands-on with sweet baby Fenn and to suggest that she would dare to dream up a product to suck the life-force from babies is ludicrous. She makes his food, cloth diapers him, and spends the large majority of her day finding ways to stimulate him and make him happy. The iLatch is a great product to use in lieu of a DVD player or other device that you’d use on occasion (but not 24/7). The iLatch isn’t made to create lazy parents and zombie children, it’s made to help entertain bored, fussy babies and let their mamas have a moment of sanity. Don’t vilify Lauren or the iLatch for poor parenting. Amen.

I sort of have to agree with the commenters about the “scariness” factor of the iLatch. I’ve seen this written about in other blogs recently as well. I completely and totally admire this mother for creating something that other people may want. However, I’m sure her intention is not for it to become a babysitter….but I’m scared that is what it will become. I have four children and have never ever felt that they need something like this in a restaurant and especially the grocery store! YIKES!! We also have never allowed our children to watch a movie in the car…if they never know you can do that, then they will never know what they are missing. And yes, we have traveled with our children in the aiport and never once did they need a DVD or Ipad to entertain them. I know everyone’s children are unique and every parenting style is different…however, I do wonder what will happen when these children grow up and feel the need to constantly be entertained???
