Hudson's first day of school!

Today was my little Hud Bud’s first day of school. He is in the Twos class this year. TC and I went to a parent orientation and open house a couple nights ago at the school and then Hudson had his open house/orientation yesterday. He got to meet his classmates and his teacher and the moms got to hang out, too. He loved playing in the classroom and exploring.

I couldn’t get  him to sit on the steps in front of the house this morning for a picture. But he did stand there for me in his fun little school bus shirt! (And somehow my camera went to B&W mode- so frustrating!) Look at him this year compared to last year!

2011

2010 (my camera was taken over by the humidity that day)

My hope for him this year is that he’ll continue to grow and mature. I hope he’ll make good friends and learn to share and be a kind friend.

As I observe other kids, I’m beginning to see that most two-year-olds are just alike. All parents of toddlers struggle with the same things where kids are saying “no” all the time and “mine” when someone tries to play with their toy. It can be so embarrassing when you witness your child acting that way toward another child. But Hudson isn’t the first kid that has acted this way. I’m pretty sure another kid will give him the “MINE!” treatment a time or two!

We’ve had a long summer of hanging out at home and Hudson has really been such a patient little boy. Even though he’s Hayes’s big brother, he’s still my very young little boy. And I forget that sometimes. And I expect too much out of him and expect him to act more maturely sometimes. But he is such a great kid and he makes me so proud.

He cried yesterday when we left the open house because he wanted to stay and play. But I explained that we’d be back all the time. I’m so excited that he likes it so much. I’m praying for him to have a wonderful year. The teacher said that each month they’ll focus on a different shape, color, and Bible verse. I’m just so encouraged. I love that the lessons, values and stories of Jesus’s love that we teach at home will be reinforced at church and at school! What a lucky kid!

When I picked him up from school today, he told me that he’d had fun and started saying goodbye to his classmates and calling them by now. I am so encouraged!

I am looking forward to spending a little quiet time with this sweet guy while Hudson is at school. I’m excited to be able to focus on Hayes’s development for a few hours every day. And I’m excited to have an extra hand to run some errands or get some things done around the house before Hudson comes home from school.

I came across your blog awhile back cant remember what got me to it but I’ve enjoyed reading your posts 🙂 we both have little boys the same age and I am not sure how old you are but we look about the same age ( I am 27) I am a Christian also. It’s nice to hear from another mom out there going through the same as issues as me. You have a lovely family. God bless 🙂

He is absolutely adorable. My three older kids all went to preschool just like Hudson is, for basically the same amount of time at the same ages, and it was so important to their development (AND MINE :)). You are doing such a great job with that sweetheart! Also, I have to ask, do you have him wear New Balances because he has wide feet? Two of my boys have the world’s widest feet, and they ALWAYS.ALWAYS.ALWAYS.ALWAYS wear New Balances. My question to you is, if that is the reason, do you happen to know of a good DRESS shoe that accommodates wide feet on little boys? Sperry is the best we’ve been able to do so far. Random question, I know, and maybe you’ve blogged it before, but I can’t remember it.

Anyhow – here’s to a wonderful school year. The routine and learning at preschool just can’t be matched. When he gets to kindergarten someday (too soon), he will be so prepared and confident.

    Have a great day!

I cannot EVEN believe the difference in those 2 photos of Hudson, that absolutely just blows my mind!!!!!!! I’m so happy that he seems to enjoy school so much already, and am thrilled that you get a little quality 1-on-1 time with Hayes. Love that school bus shirt, by the way 😉 xoxo

Yay Hudson!!!! Question–does he go to a preschool or a MDO type thing? I can’t believe I need to start thinking about this stuff, but as Charlotte turns one in a few weeks I should prob get some questions going for other Moms! Oh–and I totally think Hayes looks like you!

Wow what a difference a year makes. Those sweet boys are looking cuter every day. I love how you can really see the differences in them and how each one is taking after a parent’s looks. So cute!

    Hey Erin,

I am so happy that Hudson liked his little classmates. I know what you mean about the behavior of a 2 year old! My son Ryder will turn 3 this November and I am praying that we are starting to phase out of the “mine” and “no” stages! I will just start staying at home with him, as my due date with our daughter gets closer and closer in just a few days. We had him in daycare the past two years and he loved it, but I wanted to give him a little break too, and am thinking of enrolling him in preschool at one of the local churches here for a day or two a week. Lots to think about!

Hudson is adorable as usual 🙂 Love his little schoolbus shirt!
