The Help by Kathryn Stockett is one of my top five favorite books of all time. I was reading it right before Hudson was born and I have yet to find a book that I love quite as much as The Help. In fact, I started re-reading it this week in anticipation of the movie’s release.
The casting for the movie is perfect. The costumes and the 60s styles are so inspiring and make me wish I had been born many decades ago. The way the dresses fit perfectly at the waist and disguise the hip is just the way women’s clothes should fit.
I hope people flock to the theaters this weekend to see the movie! But if you haven’t read the book yet, do that first!

I finished the book last week and am obsessed with it! I loved everything about it that I had to do a review on my website as well. Now, I just need to find someone to take me to the movies this weekend to go and see it!

I lived “The Help”….as a child. I was born/raised in the south….had a JL mama…..raised primarily by our nanny (whom my sister and I loved dearly). My freshman year in college my nanny would bring baked treats and freshly laundered clothes to my dorm every Friday afternoon. I think the book missed the part about how much real affection the nannies and their children shared, even into adulthood in many cases. My nanny retired before I had children but one of my childhood friends had the same nanny for her babies. Overall I loved the book and am looking forward to seeing the movie…Great post Erin….Have a great weekend!
I am SOOO excited to see this movie!! I also LURVED this book – I actually listened to the audiobook which was really cool because there was a different reader for each of the three main characters.
I have heard so many people say how much they loved The Help, so I am jumping in on that bandwagon, and hoping to see the movie. I loved this post and loved the pins! I hope you are having a good Friday and you and your sweet family have a GREAT weekend!

I loved the book too, and saw the movie yesterday. I thought it was very well-done. You are right about the clothes!
Call me crazy, but it would’ve been nice to see a NPR thoughtful response than all the dresses are so pretty and I’d love to have lived back then to wear them?!
And, there probably weren’t a bunch of stories about how much the nannies loved the babies because that wasn’t the norm…and any love that was there was diminished when the child came of age and just folded into the norms and customs of the times that didn’t see or values Blacks as anything more than The Help.
P.S. I’m Black and I liked both the book and the movie. And, my Grandmama was The Help.

I saw The Help on saturday and Oh, girl…it was fantastic. Take a tissue or the entire box. I cried like a baby several times. My intention was to read the book first but that didn’t happen so I’m looking forward to doing that now and see what differences there are. Oh, and the dresses are to die for too! Can’t wait to hear what you think about it.
