this, that, and a little in between

1. You know what would be so much fun? If I could wear anything in my closet besides maternity pants. Don’t you think that would be fun? The weight loss process is coming along, but it’s so hard not to get discouraged when I look in the mirror. But for a few more weeks I’m going to wear maternity pants until I break down and buy some pants that fit. Shopping is fun, but I’d rather everything in my closet fit than have to go shopping for new stuff.

Rant over. I promise.

2. I took both boys to the doctor yesterday. It went a lot better than I expected. Hudson was really well-behaved and Hayes only cried when the car stopped! Hudson had his two year well visit and Hayes was just along for the ride. Hudson is right on track and doing great!

3. I’m slowly but surely reading The House on First Street by Julia Reed. I love it so much, but I only can squeeze in about twenty minutes of reading time at night before I shut my eyes. The book is fun for me because I recognize so many of the locations, restaurants, and streets in Julia’s story and it really is a great story about New Orleans that truly captures the culture. My summer reading is starting to pick up as I find more and more free time in my day.

4. Hudson’s birthday party is this weekend. It’s going to be MUCH more low key than last year’s party. I have gotten a few fun Sesame Street items for him to make it fun, but it’s not going to be a huge party. He’s excited to see his friends and play with them for a little while. And I’ll get to use a little bit of my creativity.

5. I lied… Rant wasn’t over… Summer is so much more fun when you’re skinny.

Okay. Rant over. For real.

6. I let my dogs outside today when I was making a bottle and talking on the phone. I’m not sure how much time passed, but all of a sudden I heard a little bark and it sounded like Fiona. And then I realized I hadn’t seen Boudreaux or Fiona in a while. Where could they be? Oh yeah! I let them outside when I wasn’t paying attention to what I was doing. And I forgot to let them back in. Fortunately, only about 20 minutes went by.

Mommy brain is a real thing. And it’s worse than pregnancy brain.

7. I feel like every morning I need to make a written schedule for myself or else I will certainly forget something, get sidetracked, and get completely disorganized. When I have a plan for the day, I am so much more productive and “together.”

8. The Meredith Viera farewell show on Today this morning was really sweet. Meredith isn’t my favorite, but I think she’s real. I just love Matt, though, and love how he can have such a great time at work. I wish he was my coworker.

What’s going on with all of you this week?

I agree….summer is more fun when you’re skinny! And, 10 years old. 🙂 Miss lazy summer days where the biggest decision was which swimsuit to wear and which flavor Popsicle to have.

I love your rants! So funny! Not making fun of them, I just think you have a good sense of humor about things 🙂

My husband and I are about to become South Carolinians next week, can’t wait to learn more about your state!

You know I agree with you about the weight thing. Summer is NOT a fun time to be “chunky” as some might say. 🙂 I wish I was as good as reading as you are. I feel like I spend my free time on the computer which is not always good. I need to spend more time reading.

There isn’t a woman who has had a baby who doesn’t understand and sympathize with your rants. Also, I did the same thing to my dogs yesterday, and I have a three year old and no newborn. So have no excuse.

Hey girl! I have decided that even though it’s HOT, being pregnant during the summer isn’t so bad because people expect you to be huge! Ha! I will be ranting come August/September!

I love your rants! Summer IS more fun when you’re skinny! I predict I’m going to be miserable a lot while being pregnant this summer since it’s already hitting 90 degrees in June. Also, happy belated birthday to Hudson!

Feelin ya on all fronts! Mommy brain doesn’t go away…I recently bought a 50th b day card for someone turning 60 and forgot to confirm a playdate at my house until 5am the morning of! Here’s to our very not perfect lives! Praise God for tomorrows!

Good luck with the party. I think you should buy yourself a fun, warm-weather, maxi dress that can transition with you. There are so many cute, cheap ones right now!

I agree with you about Meredith. She wasn’t my favorite, but something about her just clicked. I really like Ann & Natalie and can’t wait to see more of them!

Ok…so I am 9 weeks post partum and fit into all of my old pants/clothes (although I still need to lose an additional 5 lbs to be where I was). However, my body is definately NOT the same and there are rolls and wrinkles on my stomach that will probably NEVER return to normal. It is depressing, but I try to remind myself it is a sweet reminder of my babies and how much they are worth every pound, roll, and wrinkle. However, I am pretty vain and HATE the way my body looks….oh well. 🙂

You have 2 beautiful boys and I know you are so proud!

You are so Type A, just like me. I am the same way about having a schedule each day. Otherwise, I just get so easily distracted.

Oh, and I let my dog out all the time, and forget about him. Poor pup (well, I secretly think he likes it…) 🙂

And, I bet you look great! Give yourself a break, you have a one-month old! 🙂

I love reading all of your thoughts as you press forward raising two sweet boys. I’m going to be a first-time mommy in August and have no idea what I’m in for! I also love the Today Show. I’m a teacher, and my absolute favorite part of summer vacation is being able to watch the Today Show. I’m so excited that Ann Curry is taking Meredith’s place…she and Matt are my favorites. 🙂

I know exactly how you are feeling. i had my 2nd son last april and I felt exactly the same way you are feeling. This will pass!
Hope you have a great weekend and Happy Birthday to Hudson!

Getting rid of the residual baby bump can take quite some time, especially after a c section. I had my son a year ago and still can’t comfortably wear my old jeans. The rest of me is pretty much the same size as before the pregnancy but not the lower parts of the belly. Plus I have a colostomy which also makes my stomach look a bit bigger. We’ll see if the belly gets flatter with a bit more working out and watching the diet, though we’re actually hoping for a second baby in the near future so maybe it will be after that…

OMG Mommy brain is seriously bad. Not only have I left my dogs outside before too, but once I thought I left my keys in the car, which ended up being unlocked. After searching for 15 minutes in the car, I realized that the keys were in my pocket. There are 12 keys. And there are some keychains…my pockets aren’t big…yup
