change of plans

We were supposed to be taking Hayes’s newborn photos and Hudson’s two year photos along with some family photos with Tracy Turpen today. I was so excited! Hayes is at a great age for photos because he sleeps so much and puts himself in the cutest little positions.

I had laid out everyone’s outfits for the perfect comfy, home photos. And then this morning, Hudson woke up with a fever. He had to miss his picnic at school and I had to call Tracy to reschedule our photos.

But the bigger concern than missing the picnic and post-poning the pictures is that Hudson is contagious and Hayes is so young. Because I can’t drive yet, my brother drove Hudson and me to his doctor so he could get checked out. Fortunately, he just has a cold, but he is contagious. So we had to call for back up.

Fortunately, TC’s parents are in town. My mom is still staying with us helping me out during the day, so TC’s mom came and picked up Hudson to keep him at their house until he is fever free.

It’s just part of our new normal. I know that with two babies there is even more opportunity for us to have to change our plans because someone is sick or someone skipped a nap and is grumpy. Getting out the door alone is going to be a challenge. I just have to remember that God always has his own plans and sometimes I can feel him telling me to slow down and to change my expectations. Things won’t be picture perfect and won’t go as planned. I need to remember to be kind to those I live with and remember that life happens and there are only so many things that I can control.

I’m so interested to hear about your experience with two children…it will hopefully be in my future before long and I’ve worried about juggling those first few months and the adjustments that will have to be made. Your new little guy is sooo cute! Hope Hudson gets to feeling better soon for you.

It gets easier…and some days you take a step or two back before you move forward again. But you have a great attitude about it all, one which I could learn from sometimes. As a planner, I tend to have a hard time when things don’t go as planned!:)

It’s good to be cautious! I had a scare when my second was 8 weeks old because she caught a cold from her older brother and we had to stay in the hospital for 2 days. (They thought she had menengitis) I will always be paranoid now around babies under 12 weeks!

He’s adorable Erin! And so alert! Sorry Hudson is sick, C has some type of virus too, and I’ve been a nervous wreck with her being so close to M. Guess that’s how it goes with 2 now! 🙂 xoxo

Adorable little boy!! … and you are so right about having to change things at the last minute more with two. My oldest never got sick until he was 2. That’s when he started going to “school”. When my 2nd baby was born, I was so worried about him catching his older bro’s colds, etc. BUT, on the bright side…. he just turned one and has had more exposure and built up his system. It is scary with a baby but you’re a great mommy with wonderful support… you’ll rock it!! 🙂

Love that you are appreciating the “excuse” to slow down. I only have one and I know that even with one, it’s best for all of us sometimes just to stay home and play, to lay in bed in our jammies and watch a movie, to happily realize… you can’t do it all.

The SAME thing just happened to me. My 3 year old went ALL winter and did not get sick at all. And now that we have a newborn (6 weeks) she gets a cough, high fever, and now an ear infection. She also did not have any type of identified virus (tested negative for flu and RSV, but was contagious because of the cough) She went to my mom’s house for 3 days until her fever went away. However, she kept a cough for 2 weeks and now our newborn has a cough, runny nose, etc. HE is now on antibiotics too. Hopfully they will kick in and he won’t develop anything more serious. Please know you are not alone. Hope everyone feels better soon!!

First off Hayes is just precious! I could seriously eat him!!! Girl I am so impressed at your attitude with the change of plans! I like to think we are a lot alike, so this gives me hope when we have number 2 😉

PS I am dying to see Hayes nursery!!!!

Oh Erin, I don’t think I’ve commented on here about Hayes, but he is just gorgeous!! Congratulastions to your family! I love the expressions he’s already showing! He looks so much like you! You have a great attitude about all the changes that are certainly coming with having two little ones. I am a planner like you and I know that it can throw you for a loop when something gets off track, so it’s nice to see some perspective on dealing with that! 🙂
