I wanted to give y’all a few little updates on what’s going on around here. I don’t have nearly as much time to blog or read blogs as we’re still trying to figure out our new routines, but I don’t like to let too much time go by without jotting some things down.
1. Hayes is doing great. He lost about a pound in the hospital and I am breast feeding, so our big goal right now is to try to get him back to his birth weight.
2. He is starting to sleep better and is doing some three hour stretches at night.
3. He and Hudson are so different. Hudson was always busy, alert, and could pretty much raise his head from the day he was born. Hayes is really laid back and just kind of goes with the flow.
4. My recovery is going great. This is my first c-section, but I can compare it to my last delivery and I’d choose this recovery any day over my last. Hooray for c-sections!
5. Hudson is still adjusting well. He has his jealous moments, but he is just the sweetest thing. My in-laws have taken him to play at their house a couple of days this week and he loved his little outing.
6. My emotions aren’t quite as all over the place as they were when I had Hudson, but I am emotional. I cried in the hospital when they told me I may need to supplement formula. I cried on Mother’s Day when I looked at my two babies. I cry pretty much every time Hudson does something adorable because I realize how quickly my time with him has flown by.
7. I am typing this blog post on my new iPad and wireless keyboard! So exciting!
8. I still look like I’m 4 months pregnant.
9. Parts of my stomach are still numb and don’t feel like they belong to me. Weird!
10. If pregnancy makes you feel absolutely beautiful, the first few post-partum days make you feel absolutely hideous. I want to blow dry my hair and properly apply make up before leaving the house.
11. I know I need to keep dreaming!
Parts of my tummy stayed numb for about a month after my c-section.. Just heads-up! 🙂
Soooo glad to hear your c-section recovery is going well! I’m terrified!
I’m glad you guys are all doing well!
My Dr. said my son is going to be big, we have an ultrasound later today to find out just how big. I’m kind of secretly hoping for a scheduled c-section, which is so dumb, but I am!
I had a c-section 7 months ago and my recovery was great! I still have some numbness on the incision site, but I’ve been told it’s completely normal and may never get complete feeling back. I’m so glad you’re recovery is going well too! I’m all for c-sections!! 🙂
I had an emergency c-section in March and when I got home the weirdest thing was when I would lean up against the sink and I couldn’nt feel anything because my tummy was still all numb. It’s May and I still have a little bit of tingly numbness, but the recovery overall was a breeze. I’m definitely scheduling the next kiddo!
I had a c-section over 7 months ago and I’m still numb! It’s so strange! Yay for the iPad! I can’t figure out how to blog from mine…what are you using to do that?
Glad to hear from you! And yay for the iPad!
I had gum surgery 4 years ago and I still have a small spot in the back of my mouth that goes numb and tingly when I put my tongue on it. Surgery can do crazy things to you!!
I had a scheduled c-section on August 23, 2010 and parts of my stomach are STILL numb! Congratulations on your new baby boy! Best of luck figuring out your new ‘normal!’
I’m so happy for y’all! Congrats, both kids as so handsome.
As for the c-section, my doctor told me that I will never have feeling again at the incision site. Its an odd feeling, but it does get less numb over time. C sections are the way to go…I was so glad that I could have one!
Hooray for Hudson and Hayes! I’m so glad that things are going well in your household, and that you’re slowly but surely adjusting to the new ‘normal’. I had to wake up at 3:30 to get some things done this morning, thought of you and what it must be like to have a newborn to tend to at that hour, to be changing dirty diapers and feeding instead of checking flights on the computer. Motherhood doesn’t mess around! Ha! So happy your recovery is going well this time around, and that you’re taking to the new twosome well! Love you!!
Hey Hayes!!! Just wanted to pass along my hellos to that little guy. So glad you are feeling okay, and the boys and their beautiful mama are doing well. Love you friend! xoxo Samma
I have been reading for a while, but I was excited when you wrote you would rather have a c section. I have ONLY had a c section but I was wondering how it compared to regular birth.
Also, you stay swolen soooo much longer with c section. So, don’t stress about it at all. You COULD be swolen for UP to 6 months. NUTS right??
Keep up the BF, I had to supplement the whole time with Finn. (We made it 15 months) I felt like a total failure until my pediatrician told me as long as he’s getting some breast milk he’s getting all the benefits, I thought it was an all or nothing thing. Hang in there! Especially with C-sections it can take a little longer to get your supply established.
Glad that your recovery is going well, and that Hudson is enjoying being a big brother 🙂
Thanks for checking in with all your readers! Thinking about you during this time…I can’t imagine how little sleep you are getting, but just keep in mind that this too shall pass! xoxo
Glad to see you on here friend!! I am so glad to hear how much better you feel this time around. Yay for an easier recovery!
I’m glad to hear the boys are doing so well. I’m sure they are such a joy to see together!
I had a c-section with my son, and I felt that the recovery was pretty easy. My c-section was 3.5 years ago but I still have a small portion of my stomach that is numb. At first it was weird but I got used to it. Can’t wait to see baby pics, but don’t feel rushed. Rest and relax as much as possible with two little ones at home.
I’m so happy for your and your sweet boys! I’m having our second via c-section in September and am loving following along in your journey so I know what to mentally prepare myself for! haha.
glad to hear you’re recovering so well! hayes sounds like such a sweet, mellow guy!
Belated congratulations to you on Hayes’ arrival! Glad to hear that recovery is going well – you are so fortunate to have your mom around! Do take it easy – I could tell a definite difference if I went up and down the stairs just *one* more time that the dr allowed (I was allowed two round trips a day). As others have said, some of the numbness will remain. My daughter is almost 5 and I still have some numbness in my skin around my incision site. Kind of odd, but completely worth it!
Hope you continue to have a great recovery! And – I know that you already know this – but the swelling just goes down a little more slowly with a c-section. Don’t be too hard on yourself – though I know what it’s like to want your body back!
Best wishes to you and your family!
“Hooray for C-Sections!” That totally cracked me up… I’m so happy I went that route. I can’t even imagine! Girlfriend, i STILL look 4 months pregnant when I’m not sucking in “the bulge!” And one more thing.. my incision? was numb for the most part up until a few weeks ago. it’s still super sensitive and tingly if I rub it the wrong way! as the nerves regenerate and heal, it’ll be a little weird feeling! can’t wait to see more pics of Sweet Baby Hayes and Big Bro Hudson!
So glad to hear you are healing nicely. Yay for your iPad also! 🙂 Can’t wait to see pics of your boys together!
That numbness gets better!
So glad to hear that things are a little bit better the second time around! It give me hope =)
so glad to hear things are going well nad you are able to breastfeed! and glad you have lots of help right now! please don’t worry about your size, I am sure in a few weeks your belly will go down. I had an 8lb5oz baby and after he was born, both my husband and I could not believe how flat my stomach seemed. I thought I was so skinny! and now I look back on those early pictures and HELLO, I totally stilled looked 4 months pregnant, too! (you looked really great pre delivery too- only baby belly, so I am SURE it will go down fast!)
Congratulations on your new addition to the family and on how well you are doing!
What program are you using to blog from your iPad? Do you find you can comment on other blogs from there?
Belated congratulations on Hayes! He is adorable. I enjoy reading your blog. Best wishes as you adjust to life with two little ones and a speedy recovery. I have two girls (4 and 2) and the best is days hearing them giggle and watching them play together.
Congrats to you on little Hayes! I’ve always heard that doing the combo/alternating of breastmilk and formula gives the best of both worlds! Since formula is more filling and more slowly digested, it should allow you a little extra shut eye at night!
For those asking about apps for blogging from an iPhone (and I assume it would apply to iPad as well), I’ve heard that BlogPress is a good one. It is $2.99 I think bit I’ve heard it is worth it!
As far as the numbness goes– I still have spots– 8 months later– along the incision that are slightly numb. It’s crazy how everyone heals differently!
