- Despite not being interested at all in months of TV coverage speculating what Catherine Middleton would wear and what the cake would look like and what music would be played, I was very excited to actually watch today’s royal wedding. I love a wedding and love the romance, tradition, and personal touches. And there was just something very special about watching a humble girl be so genuinely and outwardly grateful for the day and for those who came to watch.
It was also nice to not hear anymore speculation and to just watch the wedding without people playing a guessing game for the sake of TV ratings. I really, really enjoyed it.
I didn’t wake up early to watch it, but got up at my normal time and began watching. I have to say that, just as I said I would be, I was fascinated by the pomp and circumstance and all of the tradition. I love that the couple respected the traditions while still throwing in a lot of themselves to the ceremony.

Kate’s dress was absolutely stunning. I love the lace and the sleeves. I love all of the pleats in the skirt. I was a bride with a heavily pleated dress, too, after all! I loved that she wore her hair down and that her makeup was very natural-looking. I know that she (and the rest of us) will look back at this dress in 20 years and still think that it was absolutely beautiful and perfect for a princess. Timeless and stunning.
And Kate’s sister, Pippa, looked absolutely beautiful, too. And I am obsessed with her name. Pippa Carroll may be my new imaginary baby name. So cute! Those Middleton girls have fantastic figures and can wear anything.
And Prince Harry is pretty much just dashing and splendid and any of those other fun English adjectives. He’s just adorable and clearly has a fantastic personality.
- On a much more somber and humbling note, I have been deeply affected and saddened by the tragedies in Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, and throughout the South and East. The tornado damage is absolutely startling and terrifying. I hope that everyone can find a way to give in some way to help the victims. Some people lost their loved ones and some lost all of their possessions. Go to the Red Cross and donate your time, money, or blood.
I have heard that baby items such as diapers, formula, and blankets are in high demand, so we’re gathering up some of those items this weekend to send to Tuscaloosa.
Kelly posted today about a few different ways you can help and give. We need to remember that despite such an eventful day in the life of another country, our country is still struggling to pick up the pieces for our friends and loved ones in these states.
These people and these communities need our prayers and whatever we can do to help.

Thank you so much for mentioning Georgia too in the remarks regarding the devastation from the tornadoes this week. Many areas just outside of Atlanta are a mess and aren’t get much attention at all due to everything elsewhere. Bless you & your family!!
I thought her dress was a little to simple… I loved the lace but, for some reason I thought her hair would be way different. But, your def. right about it being very timeless! She did look stunning! All the tornados so sad. Such a good idea to send diapers! You just never think how much we take for granted to just run to the store and pick some up! So Sad my heart goes out to all the families!
I thought she was very elegant & simply gorgeous!! I never paid any attention to William & Cate before the wedding but the two of them seem just perfect for one another!!
I’m sorry about the devastation the tornados did to the many states!! I’m also thankful that the tornados didn’t do any damage to any of my loved ones! Thoughts & prayers go out to the ones who lost everything!
Stunning affair! Kate was flawless as was Prince William.. Fergie’s girls ..not so much! My heart aches for all that were involved so devastating..I lived through Hurricane Hugo, as I grew up on the SC Coast and it is so hard to process all of the devastation.
I LOVED Kate’s dress. She is stunning! I had a great time watching the coverage and dreaming of a royal life! Also, my prayers are with everyone in the South…so horrible.
Pippa is my new name crush too! I love her formal name Phillipa Charlotte and that it allows such a cute nickname. I’m combing my family tree to find a name to pair with it.
i LOVE LOVE LOVED Princess Kate’s dress! that is what my wedding gown will look like, i am sure of it. I hope this brings sleeves back into style for wedding gowns. I also thought the little bridesmaids and pageboys were the most adorable things and were defiantly my favorite part of the wedding.
So I was the same way with the royal wedding. I didn’t care at all. But this morning I was overcome by a huge urge to watch the wedding — but it was too late. So I’ve been enjoying all of the pictures. 🙂
I agree that the dress was timeless and beautiful. It was so classic.
On a side note you can also donate to Samaritan’s Purse if you want to help out the victims of the tornado tragedies. They are a great Christian organization.
I agree with you completely on Kate’s dress, absolutely perfect! She is such a class act.
I love the sound of Pippa Carroll! I have a feeling that the popularity of the name Pippa is going to skyrocket here in the U.S. after today. I’ve heard so many people commenting on how much they love the name.
Ahhh I thought it was all wonderful – something I will always remember!
I agree with you on the royal wedding. I just hate that it happened at such a bad time in the South. If you want to see first hand pictures of Tuscaloosa, I did a blog post on pictures from my old apartment neighbor in Tuscaloosa. sewiley25.blogspot.com
I totally watched the whole thing! But i kinda was missing some emotions in the wedding, but i guess thats just the problem in the British Royal Family. I thought Kate looked to classy and her dress reminded me of Grace Kellys wedding dress.
I have been praying for the South as well. Seems like mother nature is going crazy the last years with all those natural disasters going on.
Last summer we had a royal wedding in Sweden too and I was a very new mom then so there was no end to the tears then. I was moved this time too but not that much. 😀
Actually, the name Pippa doesn’t work at all in Sweden because in Swedish that means the same as the f word. 😛
Terrible with all the storms in the US. I feel blessed to live in a country where the weather rarely cause and huge problems.
What week of pregnancy are you in now? 🙂
I wasn’t going to watch the wedding at all either, but was at work and a TV was on so I did. I, too, was intrigued by so much of the pomp and circumstance. I agree on all your statements except one; I think Pippa is a DREADFUL name!!! I felt bad for the girl anyway cause her sister married a prince (how’s her wedding going to compare???) but then I heard her name and felt REALLY bad for her.
I had fun watching it, too–they were so cute together!
I just LOVED the whole ceremony. It was just flawless, and you can tell they are both so happy. I loved her dress too! I have a friend named Pippa (short for Phillipa) and had never heard the name for anyone else. Now I think Pippa is on every Mama’s radar!
It was really a crazy week that carried into the weekend with the Beatification of John Paul II and then the news about Osama Bin Laden. So much going on! The devastating news of the tornados made my heart go out to all of those affected. Thanks for adding the info on what we can do to help. And the wedding was stunningly beautiful, there is just nothing like a Royal Wedding, is there?
This was undoubtedly a very eventful week, I don’t even know where to begin so I’ll just leave it at that. My heart goes out to the victims of the tornadoes, it’s great for anyone who can help to do so! Hoping the world settles down some now…guessing that won’t be the case though.
Thank you for sending donations to Tuscaloosa. It is home to many relatives and friends (who are all well, with or without their homes and earthly belongings), and my dear alma mater. We appreciate the love.
