what's in my… makeup bag and bathroom cabinets?

Hey, remember when I tried to start a series called “what’s in my…?” Then I did one post about what was in my DVR and never did another. That mostly happened because soon after that I found out I was pregnant and all regular posting went by the wayside in favor of lots of mommy posts and baby posts and pregnancy posts.

But today I’m going to show you what’s in my makeup bag, bathroom cabinets, and shower when it comes to beauty products.

What’s in my makeup bag? I have a really fun Stephanie Johnson makeup bag. This is my second set of her bags. The first set I had lasted about 6 years and I absolutely loved it. But you know how dirty makeup bags can get, so I decided to get a new set. And then I found an adorable Stephanie Johnson set on One Kings Lane! Cute and cheap!

Inside my bag, there are 4 compartments, and the following contents fill up those compartments. I wear makeup about three or four times a week. And each time I apply, I don’t always apply everything. I love my tinted moisturizer because of the coverage and the SPF. I can’t leave the house without mascara because my eyelashes are white. But this is why my makeup lasts me so long– I just don’t wear it that often.

My every day makeup essentials. (There is a large case of various makeup products that I’ve purchased for special occasions or weddings, but that case stays under the sink.)

I use Bobbi Brown’s Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 15 as my foundation every day. I also use her amazing, amazing, amazing concealer. I use it on my lids and under my eyes. I also love Bobbi Brown’s Pale Pink blush. For a base coat of eye shadow, I use Clinique Sugar Sugar. I love Dior makeup, too. Especially the mascara and mascara base. I recently purchased the Dior eyeliner instead of my usual Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner. After 6 loyal years, I decided the gel was taking too long to apply in the morning.

The Dior eyeshadows are so wonderful. They stay on all day and I think the colors are beautiful. I have three different palattes and none of them have ever run out on me.

I use a Bobbi Brown eyeshadow color called “blonde” on my eyebrows to give me a little help. And all of these lovely brushes each have a different purpose!

As far as skin care goes, I am pretty low maintenance. I wash my face in the morning and at night and moisturize in the morning and at night. In the morning, I use Bliss’s Fabulous Foaming Face Wash and Bliss’s Clog Dissolving Cleansing Milk. At night I just use the Fabulous Foaming Face Wash. I moisturize at night with the Clinique Super Rescue Antioxidant Night Moisturizer.

I love Bliss’s Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Mask. I use that about once a week in the shower. It’s super fast and feels amazing! I love the Neutrogena Dry-Touch Sunblock in SPF 55 for days when I’m outside for a long time. It doesn’t mess up my makeup at all. And Bliss’s The Youth As We Know It moisturizer is great, but I only use it about once a week because it’s pretty heavy.

Every night, I moisturize with Clinique’s Super Rescue Antioxidant Night Moisturizer. I love Aveda’s Hand Relief and Foot Relief. And those little Bobbi Brown exfoliating scrubber things are amazing. Every other week or so, I will add those to my face wash and really get to work exfoliating. They are wonderful. So is the Bobbi Brown toner, which I use once a day- usually in the evening.

When it comes to soap, I am a Dove or Dial body wash kind of girl. And when it comes to hair care, I am all about Aveda and Phyto products. I go to an Aveda salon and love the smell of the products, but also love what they do for my hair. I rarely have to purchase shampoo and conditioner because, like my makeup habits, I don’t use the products that often. I actually wash my hair less often than I wear makeup. It’s the blessing that comes with the curse of having close to unmanageably thick hair!

I’m currently using Avenda’s Blue Malva shampoo and conditioner. It is for highlighted hair and helps my hair not become too brassy or gold. After I shower, I spray some Aveda Brilliant on my hair to work through the tangles and to protect my hair from the heat. When I wear my hair wavy, I use Aveda Phomollient before blowing it dry to give it some texture. For volume, I spray Phytovolume Actif Volumizer Spray on my roots and massage it in.

So those are my favorite beauty products. What do you love that you can’t live without?

I love this stuff! It’s so fun to see what everyone else uses and has in their bags :). Just curious – where do you get the Bliss products? Thx! 🙂

I am so envious that you can go so long without washing your hair! I have super thick hair too, but it is also super oily so I have to wash it every day!! 🙁

I love Bumble and Bumble hair products. I use their gentle shampoo and super rich conditioner ( I only condition about 3 times per week because my hair is so naturally oily).

My two favorite makeup products are Flawless by Alloette that is a primer you put on before your makeup. It helps to even out skin tone and take away redness. I also love the Ultimate Mascara by Mary Kay. It is the ONLY one I have found that does not smudge under my eyes during the day and leave black circles (again this is a problem for me because of my oily nature/skin )

I absolutely love Bobbi Brown make up and skincare. They’re really excellent quality and last ages. I bought the face oil and it lasted me six months until I forgot to close it properly and it spilled all over my makeup bag! Its also a good range for women of colour.

Bliss products are nice too. I’ve tried that moisturiser you mentioned and really liked it as I have dry skin and I found it kept my skin looking great all day. Now I just a vitamin E face oil from our local drugstore.

Your makeup bag is CUTE! I need to be better about reading my OKL emails. Most days I have so much junk in my email and I just delete that one along with the other junk. I need to start scouting for deals!

Another blogger did a post like this last week and it makes me wants to care more about my makeup. I wear very little makeup, and most the makeup I wear, can be bought at Target. I need one of you to take me to Sephora and show me what to buy!

I love this post – thanks so much for sharing all your products. I am a product junky .. so I am always trying new things. Like you I love Bobbi Brown and Aveda products.

This post is so fun! Your makeup bag is beautiful, I will have to keep an eye on my OKL emails 🙂 I also love Bobbi Brown makeup. I’m impressed you stuck with the gel eyeliner for so long. I tried it for about a month but got so frustrated with how long it took to apply! Do you like the mascara base? Does it make a difference you think? Thanks for sharing!

With a dog and a baby, I wash my hands a billion times a day. My poor hands are so dried and cracked! So I love Aquaphor. I slather that stuff on like cream cheese on a bagel! It is kind of greasy, but it protects my poor hands. I am only 26, but my hands look like my 84 year old grandmother’s hands 😉

What a fun post! I also love Aveda and find it probably lasts me a few years! I only wash my hair twice a week, but use Hair Fix the other days. It helps manage any oil I might have. In answer to Michelle up above, if you make yourself go several days without washing your hair, the oil produced by your scalp will slow down immensely. You just have to get past the first week or so – then I’m pretty sure you could go at least every other day without washing! And try Hair Fix too!

Fun! After I did my makeup spring cleaning post, I realized I have way too much makeup even after I purged! But…I tried some Bobbi Brown concealer this past weekend & will be adding that to my stash. I was my hair 2-3 times a week too, so thick! Do you ever do a hair masque or deep conditioner?

Fun fun! I love Chantecaille foundation and Mac shadows. And I’m glad you brought Phyto back to my attention because I’ve always wanted to try it and forgot it existed. Yay! My hair needs help.. after my second pregnancy it totally changed on me and didn’t like the old stuff. Maybe Phyto will help me:)

MAC concealer and powder foundation are my favorite. I also love Clinique blush in Iced Lotus. Perfect color for fair skin. My favorite eyeliner (which I have just recently added to my daily makeup routine) is Revlon Colorstay eyeliner, in Blackberry. It goes on a dark purple, which almost looks dark brown or black. It really makes hazel or green eyes pop and lasts ALL day with no smudging. For hair, I love Oscar Blandi dry shampoo for when I skip washing. I am such a product junkie and I loved reading about what you use! Great post!

Great stuff!! I always love to get new ideas for products to try.

I LOVE Bumble and Bumble hair products. My hair always looks better when I use their line. I also don’t have to wash as often, usually every two or three days.

Aahhh! Erin haha THANK YOU for doing this post, I am always so curious to hear what products people use and I love asking people about their “routine”-I’m a loyal Bobbi Brown girl as well!

I am in love with your make-up bag SWOON!!! I have to order a set of her bags ASAP!!

I am also a die-hard Aveda person…their products are amazing and life changing! I agree that Dior mascara is the best out there! I need to add some new colors to my eye shadow routine and am going to check out the Dior shadow as well now! My other must have beauty item is the Clarisonic facial scrub…it is super fast to use and has changed my skin tone…it’s an amazing little tool!

fun post! I use Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner every day — I don’t make it perfect, just blot some on and smudge it. the caviar color makes my green eyes seriously pop. I was also an expensive mascara junkie until I picked up maybelline falsies at target a couple weeks ago — it’s amazing!! much more dramatic, and for about 1/5 of the price of my Lancomes and MACs, I’ll take it 🙂 I’ve been using Laura Mercier concealer for years, but it’s just about time to restock, maybe I’ll give Bobbi a try!

I also use Diorshow mascara. I am obsessed with it after trying soo many different brands, and have been using Dior for about 8 years now! I use Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer and concealers and am obsessed with them. I shopped around for awhile, so was happy to find this brand. I also have been using Clinique’s matte pressed powder since middle school! I, like you, only wash my hair a few times a week so I splurge on the nice Shampoo/conditioners. I am currently using the Oribe line, and have had it since Thanksgiving! For facewash I have always loved Clinique’s foaming facewash, but am currently using Cetaphil. Love this post!

I love SkinCeuticals Renew Overnight Moisturizer and Clarifying Clay Mask 🙂

Thanks for a fun post! I’m a beauty product junkie so I enjoy seeing what products other women use 🙂

Wow, thanks for all the product tips! I am definitely interested in trying the Bliss products. I am also thinking about trying the Blue Malva shampoo/conditioner because I, too, have my blonde hair highlighted and will sometimes go brassy. Thanks again!

I love reading posts like this. I really like Bobbi Brown too, and I use a lot of her stuff. My tinted moisturizer is Laura Mercier. I haven’t tried the BB one, but maybe I will look into it.

I totally love reading posts like this! I am a huge fan of bliss and bobbi brown products. I’d love to know more about your makeup regime and how you manage to do this with a toddler running around!

Definitely great post 🙂 You should do a What’s in My kitchen about your favorite kitchen products!

Thanks for posting, as I think a lot of us are product junkies but don’t want to admit it.

I also am using the Falsies mascara by Maybelline these days, but I’m going to go back to the Full N Soft stuff. I really, really like that and have been using it for about 10 years.

I love Basis soap – a cheapo bar of it lasts me at least a year and it smells like lemongrass. Pond’s Dry Skin Cream is great because it’s cheap so I slather a TON of it on without feeling guilty. AND as an added bonus, it’s what my grandma always used so that smell takes me back to spending time with her.

Other than those products, I’m a total floozy and will switch to whatever I’m in the mood for.

Love this post! I recently got a new set of Stephanie Johnson make-up bags and absolutely love them. Her stuff is so cute! Thanks for sharing all of your favorite products, Bobbi Brown tinted moisturizer is one of my all-time favorite things.

  24. says

Oh, I love learning about new products.
Hmmm…my two favorites that I use everyday are just plain ole Cetaphil to wash my face with and then I moisturize with Juice Beauty oil-free moisturizer. The juice beauty is a little pricey but lasts a long time.

  25. says

I love your makeup bag! I’m always on the hunt for new makeup/beauty products, so I’ll definitely have to check some of these out!
