an adventure at EdVenture

WARNING: Picture overload! But sometimes you just can’t miss a minute of documenting your toddler’s life.

Columbia is really fortunate to have a wonderful children’s museum. We have a fantastic zoo, a great art museum, and EdVenture Children’s Museum. I had been to EdVenture a few times for meetings, but we had never taken Hudson.

The weather was amazing on Saturday and we wanted to get out of the house and take him somewhere hands-on that he could play and explore. The museum was great. There were just enough activities for a toddler and we could also spot right off the bat which activities were too grown up for Hudson.

There are times when you see your child recognize something in real life that they see on TV, read about in books, and talk about often, and those times always make me want to cry. To watch the recognition in Hudson’s little face as he saw a real life fire truck, so close that he could touch it and even go inside was such a sweet moment. He started running in place and saying “fire TRUCK! See it?”

He got to climb up in the truck and sit in the seat. He sat there for about 10 minutes and didn’t want to leave. Bigger kids were roaming all around him and he was just watching, but he was so proud to be sitting inside the big fire truck. So sweet.

He was so teensy next to the big truck and the museum had little fireman hats, jackets, and boots the kids could put on. Hudson isn’t much into dressing up, but we got him to pose for just a second on the front of the truck.

After playing around the fire truck, we made our way over to the farm area of the museum where Hudson sorted some (wooden) eggs…

Then he planted some vegetables and cotton with Daddy…

And finally experienced another highlight in the life of a 21-month-old, sitting in the driver’s seat of a tractor…

The museum had a little red Volkswagen Beetle and Hudson kept shouting, “Red car! See it?” So he climbed on in and adjusted the temperature and played with the radio.

Then his Daddy took him up some fun stairs and he got to go down a big red slide a few times. The only meltdown of the day came when we had to leave the area with the big slide. Thank goodness TC was there to go up there with him because I couldn’t have maneuvered the stairs… or fit down the slide, I’m sure!

I will be eager to take Hudson back to the museum after his brother is born. I’m thinking it’s something that I can probably even manage alone.

That is so cool! I cannot wait to do more fun things with my daughter. She is nine months, so she can crawl around, but I do not want her crawling all over yucky floors, so I am limited in what I can do. I cannot wait until she is Hudson’s age, so we can do more fun things together!

Oh Erin! He’s growing up into such a sweet little boy! The look awe & satisfaction on his face in both the fire truck & tractor are so precious! He looked so happy on the slide that it brought a smile to MY face! You’re doing such a good job with him and I just know baby boy #2 is going to make things even more joyous in your house. I know it will be difficult at first to get a new routine but just know things will fall into place and those two boys are SUPER blessed to have you as their mama!

Ohh, yes I *love* when MJ can make a connection to something in real life that she’s only seen pictures of. I also love when she’s constantly excited by everyday (and sometimes annoying to me) things. The park where we play is situated along railroad tracks – you can see the train through some trees and it’s quite neat, actually (compared to waiting at the crossing for the train to go by!). The other day, we heard the train coming and she ran to the fence, waiting expectantly. I wish I had had my camera! And when the train roared past, she opened her mouth into an “o” shape and said, “tain tain tain” over and over again.

The expressions on Hudson’s face – and Molly’s the other day – make me want to experience life that way on a more regular basis. 🙂

How fun! I photographed a birthday party at a children’s museum yesterday. Not as cool as this one sounds, but it was still pretty fun! Even for the adults!

just wanted to tell you he looks adorable and like he is having a blast!
also, do the orange gator teeth on his shorts bother you? (we have this outfit) kind of looks like he just ate a bag of cheetos, right?!
