monday monday

We had a great weekend! It was pretty busy with family plans and the Super Bowl, but we crammed in some rest, too, because I really needed it!

1. TC’s parents took us to the circus on Friday night. It was a lot of fun! I wasn’t sure how Hudson would do or how long he would pay attention, but he did a pretty good job. We basically played “pass the baby” across all of our laps for the entire show because he needed a change of scenery to stay entertained.

He loved the elephants, the little ponies, and the tigers. He didn’t pay much attention to the trapeze artists or the tight rope walkers. He preferred the loud noise and lots of activity.

He was keeping a close eye on someone’s popcorn that was sitting near us, so we went to get him some popcorn and he also went home with an overpriced toy. But he loves it! And doesn’t every first circus experience need a souvenir? He had a great night!

2. I did a lot of reading this weekend. I finished up the first reading section of Ape House and finished our next section for Crazy Love. I’m loving both books so much!

The discussion questions for the first section of Ape House are posted on Book Beginnings and Bookends. I hope you’re reading along!

4. We went to a Super Bowl party last night for our Sunday school class and had a great time. I didn’t pay much attention to the game because I was too busy chatting and chasing Hudson around, but it’s always fun to be with friends. I took a fun little appetizer over for the party that I got from Samma‘s blog. It’s Kate’s recipe and Nina also made these for the Super Bowl. I knew if they were getting so much praise in the blogosphere, they’d be a hit. And they were! I was just calling them “sausage cups” for lack of a better name.

you can find the recipe here

5. Speaking of the Super Bowl, the one thing I paid any attention to was the National Anthem. It’s my favorite part. I usually don’t even care who’s playing in the game, but I always want to know who’s singing the National Anthem. It’s such an honor to sing such an important song.

But this year they picked Christina Aguilera? She typically has a powerful voice, but she never sings songs as they are written and adds endless amounts of runs to them. And runs can be very impressive, but in excess during the National Anthem? It’s a well-known melody! Make it recognizable, Christina. And worse than that, she couldn’t get the words right! I caught two instances where she messed up the words. You should know the words to that song like the back of your hand. One of those things that you don’t even have to think about. And if you don’t know the words? Just pre-record it or get a prompter! So embarrassing!

I’ll get down off my soap box now.

My all-time favorites are by The Dixie Chicks, Beyonce, Whitney Houston, and Faith Hill. I tried to embed them all from You Tube, but it didn’t work for some reason. So if you want to see some awesome Super Bowl performances, go look for those four!

6. Just for a laugh this morning, I thought I’d show a screen shot of an email from TC. I am not a Kenny Chesney fan and he knows that. I may be the only person on the planet that doesn’t like Kenny Chesney. So this was hilarious to me!

But if anyone wants to see Kenny Chesney in Columbia- there’s a presale opportunity!

    1) Those sausage cups look simply amazing – totally should have made those yesterday.

    2) I was also appalled by Xtina. And what in the world is up with her hair/makeup situation? I think she’s so pretty, but the bleached hair and the Halloween makeup just hide it!

    3) I like some of Kenny’s stuff, but I’m right there with you on this whole “Going Coastal” junk. Have you heard his new song called that? It is TERRIBLE. (But I’m sure you knew that already, even if you haven’t heard it yet.)

AHHHHH – I HATE when people add in all their own syncopation and what-not into the National Anthem. Just sing the song – it’s about America, not your voice, Christina!

But, on a less rant-y note, looks like you had a wonderful weekend! 🙂

love that picture of Hudson at the circus!
those little sausage cups looks delicious!
I love Kenny, finally something we disagree on 😉

  4. says

I completely agree about the National Anthem! Who doesn’t know the words? Seriously! What a shame!!! Shame on you, Christina!
For me the Halftime show was the WORST. Ugh.
Looks like Hudson had a such a fun time at the circus! What a cutie! Can’t wait to take ours (when we have them) places like the circus or Disney where I know we will come home full of popcorn and with over priced toys. 🙂

That first picture of Hudson and Todd with the clown is hilarious!! Hudson doesn’t look too sure about him 🙂

So I am totally with you on Christina! She blew it. But I LOVE the Dixie Chicks! Way back when I started college we used to blast them on our hall. And during the hour a day we were allowed to have music cranked up during exam week we would just sit in someone’s room singing them at the top of our lungs!

Usually I would be in total disagreement with you over Kenny because it’s usually my favorite show of the summer, but I just read that he’s not playing as much “old stuff” this year. And his new stuff isn’t very good!

I’ll be looking forward to Brad Paisley (whose wife I LOVE) instead. And as a mom of boys, if you haven’t heard his song “Anything Like Me” I totally recommend it!

Hello from a new follower (Manitoba, Canada)! AKA the great white north, where we’re sitting at a frigid -30 this morning! Brrr…
    Those appetizers look delicious!
Looks like the circus was a blast…I haven’t been to the circus in years!

I don’t like Kenny either! Those sausage cups look SO yummy…think I’m going to try them 🙂

-Hudson’s face in the first picture is priceless! It looks like he did not know what to think of the clown next to him 🙂
-The sausage cups look delicious! I’m printing the recipe as we speak.
-I also was so disappointed by Christina Aguilera. Why in the world did they pick her of all of the talented singers out there? Lea Michele, on the other hand, was beyond amazing! Her voices is phenomenal and she did America the Beautiful perfectly!

I was very astounded by Christina’s performance. I LOVED Lea Michele’s performance, though. Beautiful. They should’ve had her do the Anthem. And, I completely agree about Kenny. I sometimes like his songs, but they get old real quick, and they all sound the same. I also have always thought he was gay, and I can’t figure out why he hasn’t come out of the closet yet. Anywho, glad you had a fun weekend! 🙂

The pic of H smiling is adorable. I have never been to the circus. Can you believe that? Those sausage cups look really good. I’ll be trying those. And the email from TC made me LOL!

  12. Positively Preppy in Pink says

I ALSO thought I was the only person in the world who didn’t like Kenny — I’m glad to have found some others who are with me! 🙂

  13. says

So many people had issues with her performance (wrong words not included). I thought it was fine. I must be devil’s advocate though and say–wouldn’t people be upset if she pre-recorded as well?

  14. says

I couldn’t believe Christina messed up the National Anthem. I don’t get how someone could get the words wrong, especially if they know they’re performing it in front of millions. I agree she should have been more prepared. That had to be so embarrassing for her!

    I don’t like Kenny Chesney either 😛

  15. Christen says

My husband and I both looked at each other like, “Did we have a stroke, or did Aguilera mess up the words?” My doubts were confirmed on Facebook when MANY friends commented “LEARN THE SONG, IDIOT!” Also, why does she look like Snooki now? I guess we should be grateful she was covered up, but still. Not the classiest pick, methinks.

Wow, I am catty this morning! Don’t mind me…

  16. says

    Yay for sausage cups!

I usually look forward to half-time but this year… uggggggggggggg. Terrible. I missed Christina as I was dealing with our stupid water issues, but caught her screw-ups this morning on The View as I waited for the plumber – sad, sad, sad!

  17. says

The picture of the clown had me doing a double take. My brother saw the circus in Charlotte last weekend I think and posted a pic of my niece with the very same clown!

    Sounds like a fun weekend!

  18. says

Poor Christina…awful! But, I will say that I get really nervous when I don’t have words when I sing at church. Even though everyone should know the words to the National Anthem, I would be nervous that I would forget the words in front of that many people too. Singing at people’s weddings without words makes my knees weak! But I agree it was not good!

  19. Hayley says

I so agree about Christina! Did you see her comments on her performance? It said something like “I was so caught up in the moment that I lost my place but I hope people could still feel my emotion in the song.” I was mostly just disappointed that the song didn’t sound anything like the original. That’s probably why she lost her place, ha! Those sausage things look good!

    Have a good week!

  20. Charla Liedahl says

Oh, I heard about Christina’s botched performance. How sad…and embarrassing! I’m also not a Kenny Chesney fan, but I do like two or three of his songs. Like you, I thought I was the only one!

  21. Allison says

Ooooh…I laughed reading your post. Especially the part about Christina and the National Anthem. I could for sure be your older sister!!! We think so much alike on so many topics! I was saying all those same things. Hudson at the circus is too precious. I love his angelic face!

  22. says

I love the circus. Well, except for the clown part-I’m terrified! I know, strange!
The sausage cups are definitely on my list to try.
And, for the record, I don’t like Kenny Chesney. I might like him if he just kept the hat on…without it…no thanks.

  23. Becky says

THANK YOU for pointing out that she messed up the words. Really? It’s the FRIGGIN NATIONAL ANTHEM!!! I don’t blame you for getting on a soap box about that one!

We went to the circus Friday morning. Hubby and I played hooky from work and took our oldest (he’s 3). We thought it would be a perfect outing for our son without his little brother. He had us for the day all to himself. It was so much fun!!
