One of Hudson’s favorite Christmas presents was a Melissa and Doug alphabet puzzle. I owe all of my child’s knowledge to Melissa and Doug puzzles and Baby Einstein DVDs. He knows his colors, shapes, animals, animal sounds and now his letters thanks to those two companies! Those people are geniuses.
This video is kind of long, but it’s of Hudson putting together his ABC puzzle and saying the letters as he goes. There are four or five letters that he’s not so sure about, though.
*And we had a Baby Einstein DVD playing in the background, hence the classical music. We don’t just sit around listening to Vivaldi (or whoever) all day. Though that might be nice!
That is so cute. “Uh oh!” I miss my nieces and nephews.
Your child is a genius! And I want his pjs in my size!
Erin, you certainly do have a Baby Einstein on your hands! I’m so impressed and if you can, would you mind sharing where y’all found that great puzzle? I know GG would just love it!
Erin, you certainly do have a Baby Einstein on your hands! I’m so impressed! I know GG would just love a puzzle like this…I’m off to Google it!
I would totally have taken credit for the Vivaldi. “I like to expose Hudson to Vivaldi mid-morning and Bach all afternoon. But never, never, Schubert; I think that goes without saying.” Ha! Own it.
I’m impressed! He is adorable.
I sat here and laughed out loud to myself when Hudson would laugh!!! He’s such a smart, sweet boy. And he is SO cute!!! And yeyow! He’s got such a sweet personality. Thanks for sharing, Erin!
What a smart little kiddo!
Okay, I’m not sure if you know how truly impressive that is! I do visual-motor developmental training in a pediatric optometry practice, and- forget knowing almost all of those letters- the way he places them into the puzzle perfectly without having to slide them all around, and seems to even remembers where in the puzzle they go is WAY impressive for his age! Also I have much older kids who could never stick with that task for all 26 letters…way to go, Hudson!
I love Melissa and Doug. I went a little crazy this Christmas and got Cooper a few things – the clock, a train, and a wooden shape sorter – they are a little bit too old for Cooper. (I sort of didn’t pay attention when it said “for ages 3 and up.” I just saw the mailbox at our local kid’s boutique and I’m dying! It is so cute!
Erin – I don’t think he’s supposed to know all of that by now….is he??? He is so smart! We love Melissa & Doug puzzles too…though we’re still on farm animals. LOL I need to get A an alphabet one!
Such a cute video.
He is amazing! I taught preschool to 4 and 5 year olds who didn’t know their letters. You should be so proud. Keep up the great work!
What a sweet video and what a smart little boy. Future President in the making! Such a great video! Have a wonderful weekend.
He seriously is a child prodigy. I’m serious. I think he is a genius!! That’s SOOOO impressive!!!
AND he’s so cute!!! 🙂 I know you are proud!
Wow, that is so great! Most of the kindergarteners I see don’t even know all their letters coming into school.
Best puzzle ever. My son knows his alphabet inside out and backwards due to that puzzle! Much love for Melissa and Doug!
That is amazing! Hudson is so smart! My son would not have a quarter of the attention span to do that.
::excuse me i have to run out and buy some Melissa and Doug puzzles now for my 14 month old:: 🙂
i haven’t seen that puzzle…..i’m off to amazon right now to order it. thanks for posting, erin!
What a smart little kiddo, SO adorable!
So precious!!!! 🙂
His joy at finding the right letters is so precious! And, those pajamas are simply adorable!
I think I need to look into a puzzle like this for my little guy! 🙂
Wow! My nephew that is just a few days younger than Hudson is not even close to knowing his letters (and I’m not sure if he even knows his colors)! I’m so impressed!! Way to go mom!
Wow! He is just too cute AND too smart for words! So completely precious!
This is great! Love how he gets so excited and giggles when he finds each letter. His future teachers will be so thankful for all that you are doing with him now! Great job, Momma! His growing knowledge is a huge testament to you and your husband. Hudson is a very blessed, very smart little boy (and pretty cute, too!)
So cute! I love how he put the “A” in while watching the tv!
That is just too cute! I love how happy he is when he places each letter. Such a smart, sweet boy you have!
Oh my *goodness*! As if your family couldn’t make my day any more than you already have… This video just took it over the top! You should be very proud of yourself, mama, you’re doing a great job with this young man!
I can’t tell you enough how stinking cute he is – and so smart! We LOVE Melissa and Doug toys!
I can’t even believe what I see! I have so many friends with kids Hudson’s age and non of them are even CLOSE to being able to do that. Amazing. He must have great genes and a really awesome Mama! You should be so proud. And your house is beautiful!
I’m so impressed! We don’t have any Baby Einstein DVDs yet, but I would like to order a couple. Which are Hudson’s/your faves? Are there any duds?
He is so smart!! I need to start stocking up on the baby Einstein now so when we have kids we are prepared!!! Love his pjs too! 🙂
I predicted a month. He learned them all in less than two weeks! TC and I are working on him with the preamble to the constitution.
I made my family watch the video this evening, they were so impressed. FYI we also are very entertained by the my baby can read commercials:)
So he’ll be teaching E next week right?!? 😉
Hudson is the cutest little boy; he’s SO stinkin’ adorable!
Oh my goodness Erin, he is so precious!! What a smart little boy!
So adorable! Hudson is so smart and sweet. And, I love his precious pjs!
omg! he’s adorable. My 2-year old got this puzzle for Christmas!
Erin, you weren’t kidding! Little Hudson is so smart. Wow!
And, I loved Fiona and Boudreaux playing in the background. Lucy and Buddy were sitting in the room with me while I watched, and they both perked up when Boudreaux appeared on the screen 🙂
I was so impressed with Hudson! I teach kindergarten in inner-city Memphis, and Hudson knows his letters better than some of my students. I will definitely need to get those puzzles when I have kids.
Um, I think he’s far beyond what he should know at this age. That’s very impressive. He may just be a child prodigy…or at the very least, a writer someday 😉 You should be so proud. That’s truly a testament to your mommy skills.
Erin-
A. Hudson is adorable… I love his sweet voice.
B. I am not at all exaggerating when I tell you he is extremely smart. I teach kindergarten and I just tested for report cards and several of my students struggled with letter recognition (nothing wrong with that, they’ll get it). Things like that puzzle and other games can only further his development and motor skills too! If you interested there’s a company that I order things for my classroom from called Really Good Stuff (reallygoodstuff.com) and they have some wonderful manipulatives/games. I have an 8 month old and I ordered some duplicates this year (like the puzzle he has and one for numbers too) to put up at home for her to use in the next year or two.
Hey Erin-
Little Hudson is SO adorable and he does so well with his alphabet puzzle! I have a few of the Melissa and Doug puzzles but I think I may have to get that one for my son Ryder. Is that Fiona or Boudreaux in the background watching patiently- SO cute! Hope that you are having a good weekend! We are hoping for snow our way 🙂 (I live outside of the Charlotte NC area). Anyways Happy Sunday
Laura
Wow! I’ve seen kindergarten students fail kindergarten because they don’t know the names of letters!!!
I am so impressed! That is awesome. Being a teacher, it is so nice to see parents working with their children early on. That will really pay off. Such a cute video!!
Love your blog!!
