It’s a little hectic around our house as we prepare for Christmas this weekend. My parents are getting into town, but my brother can’t come this year. So we’re all making sure we do things to make sure he feels loved even though he’s a couple (or a few) thousand miles away. But Hudson is still battling this little sickness, so we’re also at a stand-still because it’s obviously more important to stay home with him rather than run all over town finishing up last minute items.
We did get out to see Santa last week. Hudson has been saying “ho ho ho” every time he sees a picture of Santa and he was really excited about seeing him. We got to the mall in the middle of a weekday, so there wasn’t a line. Hudson was saying “Santa” over and over again and doing his “ho ho ho” routine. I was thinking he’d be excited about sitting on Santa’s lap. After all, this is what he looked like last year!
And this is what my brave little toddler looked like last week. Poor thing was trying so hard to be brave and he never cried, but boy, did he want to!
He still isn’t feeling great, though. Last night he woke up in the night and that’s just not like Hudson. Even when he’s super sick we know he’s going to sleep through the night. So when he woke up, I knew I had to go in to check on him. I picked him up and he laid his on my shoulder while we rocked for about 20 minutes under a blanket. I could see his eyes opening and closing, so I looked closely at him to see if he was asleep.
And he looked back at me and said, “Elmo?”
My body was probably shaking because I was trying so hard not to laugh at him and get him all excited. But I just whispered, “No, it’s Mommy.”
We rocked for a bit longer and I laid him back down. He slept great, but woke up this morning with a little bit of a fever and his congestion sounded worse than ever. He wasn’t having super sweet dreams about Elmo, I guess.
I decided I better take him in to see his doctor before the week goes on and it gets harder to even see a doctor. I know pediatricians want to spend their Christmas with their children, too! So we went on in.
Our pediatrician let me know that Hudson has a double ear infection. Such a bummer for the week of Christmas, but hopefully it will be gone by Friday night! He’s still in pretty good spirits, but I just want him to feel good.
I hope you’re all enjoying the beginning of Christmas week and aren’t stressing. Just take some time to enjoy this week with your family and friends and be intentional as you reflect on the season.

I hope Hudson feels better by Christmas! Happy holidays to you all!
Poor Hudson! I hope he feels better soon!! I laughed so hard when I saw your Tweet about him calling you Elmo! Enjoy your time with your family. Have a wonderful week!!
Merry Christmas!!
Awe, poor H. The pic is still so sweet, though. Hope he’s feeling better soon!
Merry Christmas!
poor buddy:( So glad you took him into the doctor though! Now that you have meds, hopefully he will be feeling better in no time!
The elmo thing really cracked me up! I was laughing out loud! So presh! I am in the process of trying to get Sesame Street Live tickets right now! Dang internet site is running slow though!
love ya
Omg that picture is too much! Adorable. He’s going to love that when he’s older! And good for you holding it together during the Elmo mix-up. That’s hilarious.
“Elmo?” oh too funny! I hope he feels better soon and that you and your family have a very merry Christmas!
what’s not to love?! such a precious little boy 🙂
That picture made me laugh at loud! i’m only referring to you as Elmo henceforth. I hope Hudson feels better!
He is so precious! I hope he gets to enjoy Christmas and the wonderful things that come with it. Merry Christmas to you all!
Poor Hudson, hope he feels better soon. Have a good holiday, Erin.
poor little man! I hate being sick, and I imagine it’s a million times worse for kiddos, because they can’t quite help themselves yet! I love that he called you Elmo, that’ll be a fun story to tell him when he gets old enough to remember it!
I hope he gets to feeling better before Christmas Morning, so he can enjoy himself with his presents and the family! Merry Christmas!
I am sorry to hear about his ear infections, but I had a good laugh about the Elmo question! 🙂
The Elmo line is priceless. Hope he’s feeling better and you have a wonderful Christmas!
Aw, Hudson’s picture with Santa is too cute! Poor little buy was definitely trying to be brace. I hope he’s feeling better.
Ahhh, he is so adorable. Just melts my heart! I love his Santa picture. You’ll treasure that for years to come 🙂 Merry, merry Christmas dear!
That picture is too, too cute! I am so sorry he’s feeling bad! Hope he gets to feeling better soon!
Poor Hudson 🙁 I hope he feels better soon! When I read that “Elmo” comment this morning, I died laughing. Cute lil one 🙂
Poor little guy. Our son used to have so many ear infections before he got tubes. He used to sleep pretty well even when he had them though–unless we got the dreaded double ear infection. I hope that he is feeling better now that you have some medicine. Don’t worry about Hudson not liking Santa. Mac tried to stab Santa with a plastic fork (that he smuggled in some how) when he was 18 months old. At two and three he has loved him. He actually loves any stranger in a costume now. Which is a whole other concern…
Poor Hudson, I hope he gets feeling better in time for Christmas! His Santa picture this year is priceless!!!
I’m laughing hysterically over this year’s santa picture!!!
We have the same thing going on over here in Kentucky. Lilly has been coughing, runny nose, and watery eyes for days. I decided to take her today because she coughed all night long…even though she slept all night long. We are so lucky she ALWAYS sleeps all night. Well…good thing we went. Beginning of an ear infection and beginning of pneumonia (I’m sure I didn’t spell that right) in her left lung! Didn’t I feel bad? So glad i went before offices were closed for Christmas. Hudson’s picture with Santa is too cute !:)
I am sorry to hear that your little guy is feeling bad, but this story is too cute. “Elmo?” Hahaha how precious! And everytime I look up at his sweet little face in this year’s picture, being so brave on Santa’s lap- I can’t help but get the giggles! I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas!
So cute, even when he’s sick!
I’ve been trying to get Cooper to say “Ho Ho Ho.” For the longest time he just ignored me. The other day we were in the car and I said “Cooper, say Ho Ho Ho!” He said, clear as day, “No No No!”
Ha.
Hope he feels better soon! My little one is starting to get the sniffles, and I hate it for him. My hubby’s family is coming to town, and I really hope he feels better so they can enjoy him over the holiday.
It made me laugh when you said you tried not to laugh when you were rocking him and he said, “Elmo”? When I go in to check on my son in the middle of the night (he’s only 3 months), he will sometimes look at me in the darkness and just give me this big ol’ gummy smile. I try not to laugh or entertain him because I try to keep nighttime all business when it comes to sleeping. Sometimes I have to look away and just giggle to myself because he is so darn cute.
Poor Hudson! He is trying to be so brave. So adorable! Hope he starts feeling better soon. Hope you guys have a great Christmas!
I laughed out loud at the “Elmo” comment. Too cute!! I hope he feels better soon!
Oh my goodness, that expression is just adorable! I’ll have to send you my sister’s Santa photo for two reasons: 1) Liam is wearing an outfit so similar to Hudson – too funny!, and 2) Lucas is the one making the “this guy in the red suit is totally scary” face, which is hilarious on a 10-week-old baby!
this is too cute! i hope that sweet baby starts feeling better soon – he’s got some celebrating to do! merry christmas to you and your family!
My son Timothy has a ear infection right now too! They are so pitiful when they dont feel well. I love the Elmo comment! ha!
I can’t believe that he sleeps all night even when he’s sick. He seems like such a good sleeper! My daughter (11 mos) had her first ear infection a couple weeks ago and we were up almost the entire night. The Elmo story is so sweet, made me laugh out loud! Just to imagine what was going through his mind, so funny!
I laughed out loud when I read the part about Elmo. Ha, ha. How CUTE! And he’s adorable in that pic… definitely trying to be brave. I hope he feels better real soon!!
Poor little thing. I hope he feels better in time for Christmas!
He’s so brave in his Santa picture; it was absolutely adorable!
I’m sorry that he’s got an ear infection. I hope he feels better by Christmas! Poor Mommy too (I mean Elmo!) Too funny…
Is it bad that I think this picture is hilarious? This will make a great addition to a wedding slideshow one day!
Poor little guy. Ear infections are no fun! Our oldest had to get tubes (which turned out to be nothing, compared to what I was expecting), and our youngest is just a couple of infections away from having to get tubes.
He’s so brave on Santa’s lap! Priceless photo.
Merry Christmas
I had to take Miss Jade to the dr yesterday too…she has a sinus infection! This is the first time she’s ever been on antibiotics. Last night was the first night since Wed. that she slept all night without coughing. I’m glad the meds are starting to work and she is starting to act like herself again. I hope Hudson gets better soon! His Santa pic is too sweet!
Poor Hudson…I’m so sorry he doesn’t feel well. His Elmo comment is too funny! Hopefully that injected some much-needed humor into your night of caring for a sick child. Merry Christmas to the Carrolls…and Elmo! 🙂
He is SOOO cute! I love his little facial expression. So sorry he is sick! Hope he gets to feeling better soon!
Hey girl! I LOVE reading your thoughts about Hudson each month! Don’t the months just FLY by? It’s almost unbelievable..I hope he got better with his ears for Christmas! It was always so hard to tell w/ my 3rd child when he had an ear infection because he never pulled at his ears or anything like that, but he would get very irritable..or more touchy; and sure enough, Ear Infection Personality Disorder! LOL It was almost like it was his own version of the illness! Poor guy! Funny how each child shows you things differently!
take care, Lynn
