i did it!

Guess what I finished this week! I addressed all of our Christmas cards (we still haven’t sealed them and mailed them because neither one of us wants to be the sealer) and decorated my tree and my house for the most part.

TC and I were both kind of dragging last night, but we decided it had to be done and we started decorating our tree. His big job is always putting the “filler” ornaments on the tree near the trunk of the tree. Then I go in and place the other ones in their very strategic places so they can be showcased.

This is Hudson’s train set that his RC and PC (Todd’s parents) started as a collection for him last Christmas. He’ll get a train car every Christmas from them. We put it out for the first time the other day and he absolutely loves it. It’s kind of cramped in this particular spot, but we’ll figure out something else for next year.

These are some of my favorite ornaments. Most of the tree is jewel-tone ornaments, but we pick up ornaments on vacations or when we see them if they’re representative of a hobby or a pet. I love the little Golden Retriever with the Santa hat.

Our stockings are from Pottery Barn Kids. I got five of them the year I was pregnant with Hudson because I wanted to make sure our future kids could have matching stockings. Much to my surprise, PBKids still has these very stockings for sale every year. But we have two more in storage for future Carrolls– and Baby Boy Carroll #2 will get his name put on his very soon!

The wreath for the front door that my mom made me. I just LOVE it! It matches my tree and the peacock feather are adorable.

I got this angel holding the votive at a wonderful local shop a couple of years ago and love bringing it out at Christmas time. It sits on our entry table now.

And just because I love these guys, I had to show what Hudson and Boudreaux were up to yesterday. Hudson is absolutely smitten with Boudreaux and Boudreaux is just tolerant and patient.

And please smile with me over the change in my sweet son from last Christmas! A friend of ours sent us that baby Santa suit as a gift for Hudson and we surprised the grandparents with it on Christmas morning. It was absolutely ridiculous and completely adorable! I can’t believe how much he changed in a year.

Your tree is perfect! So fun! We do the collecting of ornaments on vacations too and I love to hang them and “showcase” them each year. I also love your big bow as a tree topper, that how we topped our tree growing up and I just can’t find a bow big enough to do it to mine!

Great work my friend!!! The tree looks gorgeous and I can’t believe how different Hud has changed over the last year. It’s truly amazing to watch the kiddos grow! xoxo

p.s. try a tiny/micro glue stick to close the Christmas cards instead of licking.

Oh my gosh! Baby Hudson! He is such a big boy now. You can use a glue stick, or a damp washcloth to seal your envelopes! I also am not a fan of licking them, ick! I am in LOVE with the that wreath!

Congratulations! I went completely scaled down this year since my poor husband came down with pneumonia the day after Thanksgiving and the rest of us have had nasty colds. I just didn’t have it in me to do the whole she-bang. I’m sure my boys (who are six) are thinking, “it sure doesn’t look like it usually does.” but they haven’t mentioned anything. I think as long as Santa shows up, they don’t care so much how decorated the house is (for now, anyway).

You are doing great! Love your blog!

Love your Christmas decorations–your home looks so festive. Hudson and his “Bo-doh” are so cute together. And my goodness, he has grown from last year (obviously! ha), but, still has that amazing smile. Merry Christmas!

We have a deal in our house that if I address the envelopes my husband has to lick them. It’s only fair since he would never address them due to his not-so-great handwriting.

Your house looks awesome and that was super smart about thinking ahead with the stockings. I especially like your wreath. BTW I use a wet sponge to close cards lickity split (pun intended).

Erin- I love you glass ornaments! I especially love the state ones. I was wondering where you got them? My husband is from Iowa and I am from SC and I’d love to represent that on our tree.
    Thank you!- Meg

Erin, your tree and wreath are both beautiful! Just wondering, do you typically wrap all of your gifts in the same paper? It looks so nice under the tree. I try to wrap mine so that every gift is in different paper. I’ve considered doing them all the same paper, but haven’t yet because I have so many rolls to use up! I love pulling out my favorite rolls and getting to use and enjoy them again, but it’s not very practical to store so much gift wrap for 11 months of the year.

You are going to have to do a Q&A post on these Christmas decorations – reading from the comments. I do LOVE the wreath and would LOVE to buy one!!! (Or make one, but that’s not gonna happen.) Anyway, just a tip – use a glue stick on the envelopes to seal them!

I love love LOVE Christmastime and always look forward to photos of your decorations for the year. The wreath your Mom did is spectacular! Great job! and isn’t the train under the tree the perfect touch?
Wow. has Hudson ever grown a lot this year! He is so handsome! and Christmas will be so much fun with him. It only gets better & better at this point and to think next year, there will be another little one to share it all with! I loved the 1st year of life and the 2nd, thinking about how you are getting the very special honor of sharing all those ‘FIRSTS’ with another human being! I still remember taking my daughter out to our church camp and seeing a beautiful butterfly on the mess hall screen and allowing her to take it all in. Great memories!
By the way, you were very brave standing up so high for the Singing Christmas tree, girl! So glad the Lord helped you through it without any problem. That’s our great God, isn’t it?
Well, only a week from today, and its CHRISTMAS! Yey!!!
    Keep having fun!
and enjoy feeling that new little fella kicking and moving around! Nothing can replace that!
    In His Love,
    Lynn
