On Sunday night, we made our way down to Riverbanks Zoo to participate in Boo at the Zoo. The zoo puts on this great event for kids and there are tons of kids running around in their Halloween costumes and stopping by different stations to trick or treat.
Some of the animals were even out, so the kids could see them, so that made it exciting for Hudson. He doesn’t eat candy (or we don’t let him) and doesn’t really understand the whole “trick or treat” thing, but we still had a fun time.
Hudson isn’t a huge fan of his costume just yet. It’s a shame because he has a school Halloween (or Fall party) on Wednesday and still has actual Halloween to wear his costume. Maybe he’ll get used to it by then.
He did much better when we were holding him and I think he looks pretty stinkin’ adorable. TC and I would just die laughing every time he’d put this thing on.
He absolutely loves lions and tigers and loves making a cat-like roar sound. And the real lions were even out that night just watching all the crazy kids in their costumes. Hudson was very excited to see them! Look how tiny he looks next to this statue.
We also saw the elephants and bears. “Bear” is one of Hudson’s new words, so he was very excited to see a real bear even though it was sleeping. We didn’t see any monkeys, but Hudson was calling for them with his monkey sound.
So we’re hoping that the next two Halloween events will be successful and he’ll get used to the costume. And if he doesn’t we’ll hope that as a two-year-old he’s more into Halloween! I seriously need to decorate my porch with hay, mums, and pumpkins. I’m so behind this year and just haven’t gotten it done. Maybe when my mom is here next week we can do it together. Mom, if you’re reading this, that’s a hint!

Holy Hudson adorableness today!
I’m dying over that Lion costume!
ps You look great!
Oh. My. Goodness. That second photo next to the statue is ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE! He is so cute! 🙂
LOVE the lion costume! Hahahahahaha- it’s adorable, as is your little lion.
Just when I think the pictures can’t get cuter… that is the sweetest lion costume! Good choice!
You got great photos! He doesn’t look upset in any of them!! And he looks so cute, especially making that funny face while making the monkey sounds, sweet boy!

haha, so cute! love it!
Awe, I love that costume! Kate is only 4 months for this Halloween, so I failed to get her a costume. Next year! It is hard at this age because we want to do fun stuff with them, but they do not really get it, and the fun stuff seems to always interfere with nap time or whatever the case may be.
What a cute little lion! So adorable!
He is so cute! He makes the perfect little lion.
Super Cute! What an adorable costume 🙂
Oh my goodness! His costume is so adorable!
Boo at the zoo is one of my favorite events!! And Timothy is wearing the exact same lion costume!! I can’t wait to see him in it!!
Oh my gosh, that costume is adorable! Hudson looks so cute!!
What a cutie! I hope he gets used to the lion costume this week because it is just too precious.
That lion costume is to DIE for. He looks like such a little man in it, not like a baby! So absolutely sweet. In Colorado, it’s always so cold that all costumes have to be able to fit over snow gear. This costume would work GREAT there.
Hudson looks way too cute in that lion costume!
You HAVE to be the most darling family ever. Still loving your hair. Your little guy is adorable in costume.
That is one darling lion!!!!
Love the lion costume! Where did you find it? All our little guy can talk about it dressing up as a lion for Halloween.
On a totally unrelated topic, I wondered if you had seen the link to you’re blog on the We’re South Carolina Y’ALL facebook page? I friend told me that our blog was referenced and when I looked it up, I saw yours too!

That would be “your blog” not “you’re blog”. So much for that English degree!
Kid costumes…aaggh!! It’s so frustrating when you have an ADORABLE costume and your sweet kid(s) won’t cooperate. When my oldest was young enough to not fight the costume, she was too young to sit up, so the costume didn’t reach its full cuteness potential. When they’re old enough to walk around in the costume but still too young to understand the concept, they hated anything that went on their heads and anything that made it hard to walk.
Plus, here in Dallas you never know if it’s gonna be super hot or kinda chilly on Oct 31. If I buy a short sleeved costume then they will undoubtedly need a coat and end up covering up the whole costume. If I buy a warm wooly one, it’ll be 85 degrees outside.
Judging from my luck with Halloween costumes on my own toddlers, I think the kids in the Halloween costume catalogues must have their happy expressions photoshopped in.
But Hudson looks adorable!!!
Oh. My. Word. He is so stinkin’ cute! I really started laughing imagining him walking around roaring at things. Knoxville does Boo at the Zoo as well. So fun.
Those feet are too hysterical! Love it!
Oh my word, that last picture is priceless!!
He’s so cute next to the statue! Frame-worthy!
He’s the cutest little lion I’ve ever seen!
He is precious!!!
My oldest son hated his costume at that age as well. Normally, he was only allowed to drink milk or water, but I would give him a little juice every time he put his costume on. By Halloween, he was a pro with it. I even got a posed, smiling picture.
Who knows, maybe it will help. Unless you’re above bribery…..
now there’s one lion i wouldn’t be scared to meet at a zoo 🙂
Erin, he is SOOO cute! For him to not have liked it, you got some pretty good pictures. The one of him by the stature is adorable!
DYING. DYING. That is just the dang cutest thing.
What a darling little lion! It may be best to send him with an extra change of clothes on Friday just in case he doesn’t want to wear his costume for too long. In my experience, though, if he was able to enjoy it while a the Zoo, he should be just fine! Halloween is such a wonderfully fun occasion for us all~I can’t wait to hear how much he enjoys Trick or Treating!
That lion suit is so precious!
he looks soo darling!! What a precious little lion:) Cate has a couple events this weekend, where she will be a cupcake and she is not a big fan of it quite yet. I think I will let her wear it around the house some this week!
So excited about Thanksgiving week:)
Hudson looks darling in his lion costume!! we have a stegosaurus costume prepped and ready for Sunday, but we’re not expecting much. At least they’re still little enough for us to pick the costume, right? In a few years, we’ll be buying superheroes like everybody else *sigh*
He looks so adorable!! I could just eat him up! Boo at the Zoo is so much fun. I used to volunteer there when I went to USC. Glad y’all had fun!
he is the cutest! i love his photo with the lyon!
ohmygosh…what an adorable little lion!!!! I love the costume….sorry to hear he’s not a fan of it. I would keep him in it all the time ’cause he looks so cute.
Cutesy lion costume I’ve ever seen! Where did you get it?
Hudson is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen in that costume.
Oh! So cute!! Love that little lion!
Um, he is the cutest lion I have ever seen. Adorable.
Oh my word!! Can Hudson get any cuter? That is the most adorable costume ever! Our zoo has a spooktacular, which we are taking S to this week.
He’s the perfect lion! So cute!
Hudson is adorable in his lion costume. My daughter just turned one and I had to put the head piece to her costume on her for weeks so that she would get used to it – ha. It looks like you had a great time. What a neat event.
i LOVE the costume. i have a feeling james won’t be into halloween this year either. and i feel even more guilty that i’ll parade him up to homes to get candy that i won’t let him eat. i sure don’t need it. so, we may do a few houses for fun and then just hang out. i’m hoping next year will be more fun too!
What a cute little lion!
LOVE LOVE the lion costume– what a precious boy!
Awe! Hudson looks SO cute in his little lion costume! I like how you got a picture with a lion and he matched with his costume 🙂 You are such a good Momma!
Erin- Very cute!!! Give me a call… Have not seen you and Hudson in ages!!
I love the lion costume! These are such cute pictures–thanks for sharing.
Hudson is so incredibly cute in his costume! Glad you had a great time at the zoo!
He’s the cutest little lion I’ve ever seen! You guys are a beautiful family.
Aww, he’s absolutely adorable!! You’re looking good too mama!! 🙂
What is happiness? You can get the answer above. The baby is so cute and a family of three are so sweet and happy together. Every newlyweds may be eager for having a baby.
He is SO adorable!! I love all the pics you got by the lion statue.
Erin – Hudson will definitely be more into it next year. Gavin will be two in just three weeks and although he didn’t totally get it at first, he loved wearing his puppy costume (not the first time we tried it, but we let him wear it for 5 or 10 minutes a few times before Halloween, so he got used to it and ended up loving it!). We only took him trick-or-treating to four houses (Grandma & Grandpa’s, Daycare, and two other neighbors that we know well). He wasn’t quite sure what we were doing at the first two stops, but by the third house, it was old hat! He knew exactly what to do and was totally into it, saying “twickatweet”. After the fourth house, I told him we were going back home and he said “no, diffwent house, mommy. Twickatweet diffwent house.” Hudson will love next year!
