boo at the zoo

On Sunday night, we made our way down to Riverbanks Zoo to participate in Boo at the Zoo. The zoo puts on this great event for kids and there are tons of kids running around in their Halloween costumes and stopping by different stations to trick or treat.

Some of the animals were even out, so the kids could see them, so that made it exciting for Hudson. He doesn’t eat candy (or we don’t let him) and doesn’t really understand the whole “trick or treat” thing, but we still had a fun time.

Hudson isn’t a huge fan of his costume just yet. It’s a shame because he has a school Halloween (or Fall party) on Wednesday and still has actual Halloween to wear his costume. Maybe he’ll get used to it by then.

He did much better when we were holding him and I think he looks pretty stinkin’ adorable. TC and I would just die laughing every time he’d put this thing on.

He absolutely loves lions and tigers and loves making a cat-like roar sound. And the real lions were even out that night just watching all the crazy kids in their costumes. Hudson was very excited to see them! Look how tiny he looks next to this statue.

We also saw the elephants and bears. “Bear” is one of Hudson’s new words, so he was very excited to see a real bear even though it was sleeping. We didn’t see any monkeys, but Hudson was calling for them with his monkey sound.

So we’re hoping that the next two Halloween events will be successful and he’ll get used to the costume. And if he doesn’t we’ll hope that as a two-year-old he’s more into Halloween! I seriously need to decorate my porch with hay, mums, and pumpkins. I’m so behind this year and just haven’t gotten it done. Maybe when my mom is here next week we can do it together. Mom, if you’re reading this, that’s a hint!

Oh. My. Goodness. That second photo next to the statue is ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE! He is so cute! 🙂

You got great photos! He doesn’t look upset in any of them!! And he looks so cute, especially making that funny face while making the monkey sounds, sweet boy!

Awe, I love that costume! Kate is only 4 months for this Halloween, so I failed to get her a costume. Next year! It is hard at this age because we want to do fun stuff with them, but they do not really get it, and the fun stuff seems to always interfere with nap time or whatever the case may be.

That lion costume is to DIE for. He looks like such a little man in it, not like a baby! So absolutely sweet. In Colorado, it’s always so cold that all costumes have to be able to fit over snow gear. This costume would work GREAT there.

Love the lion costume! Where did you find it? All our little guy can talk about it dressing up as a lion for Halloween.

On a totally unrelated topic, I wondered if you had seen the link to you’re blog on the We’re South Carolina Y’ALL facebook page? I friend told me that our blog was referenced and when I looked it up, I saw yours too!

Kid costumes…aaggh!! It’s so frustrating when you have an ADORABLE costume and your sweet kid(s) won’t cooperate. When my oldest was young enough to not fight the costume, she was too young to sit up, so the costume didn’t reach its full cuteness potential. When they’re old enough to walk around in the costume but still too young to understand the concept, they hated anything that went on their heads and anything that made it hard to walk.

Plus, here in Dallas you never know if it’s gonna be super hot or kinda chilly on Oct 31. If I buy a short sleeved costume then they will undoubtedly need a coat and end up covering up the whole costume. If I buy a warm wooly one, it’ll be 85 degrees outside.

Judging from my luck with Halloween costumes on my own toddlers, I think the kids in the Halloween costume catalogues must have their happy expressions photoshopped in.

    But Hudson looks adorable!!!

Oh. My. Word. He is so stinkin’ cute! I really started laughing imagining him walking around roaring at things. Knoxville does Boo at the Zoo as well. So fun.

    He is precious!!!
My oldest son hated his costume at that age as well. Normally, he was only allowed to drink milk or water, but I would give him a little juice every time he put his costume on. By Halloween, he was a pro with it. I even got a posed, smiling picture.

Who knows, maybe it will help. Unless you’re above bribery…..

What a darling little lion! It may be best to send him with an extra change of clothes on Friday just in case he doesn’t want to wear his costume for too long. In my experience, though, if he was able to enjoy it while a the Zoo, he should be just fine! Halloween is such a wonderfully fun occasion for us all~I can’t wait to hear how much he enjoys Trick or Treating!

Hudson looks darling in his lion costume!! we have a stegosaurus costume prepped and ready for Sunday, but we’re not expecting much. At least they’re still little enough for us to pick the costume, right? In a few years, we’ll be buying superheroes like everybody else *sigh*

Hudson is adorable in his lion costume. My daughter just turned one and I had to put the head piece to her costume on her for weeks so that she would get used to it – ha. It looks like you had a great time. What a neat event.

i LOVE the costume. i have a feeling james won’t be into halloween this year either. and i feel even more guilty that i’ll parade him up to homes to get candy that i won’t let him eat. i sure don’t need it. so, we may do a few houses for fun and then just hang out. i’m hoping next year will be more fun too!

Erin – Hudson will definitely be more into it next year. Gavin will be two in just three weeks and although he didn’t totally get it at first, he loved wearing his puppy costume (not the first time we tried it, but we let him wear it for 5 or 10 minutes a few times before Halloween, so he got used to it and ended up loving it!). We only took him trick-or-treating to four houses (Grandma & Grandpa’s, Daycare, and two other neighbors that we know well). He wasn’t quite sure what we were doing at the first two stops, but by the third house, it was old hat! He knew exactly what to do and was totally into it, saying “twickatweet”. After the fourth house, I told him we were going back home and he said “no, diffwent house, mommy. Twickatweet diffwent house.” Hudson will love next year!
