too many brain dumps lately?

I really do try to stay positive, but I also like to be honest without airing my family’s dirty laundry (we all have it, right?), but these past couple of weeks are kicking my tail!

  • In the last three weeks, Hudson has had an ear infection, a viral infection, and now the stomach bug. We were up late last night holding him in a towel trying to minimize the mess and keep him comfortable.
  • In these three weeks, my OCD ways have taken a major back seat… as in, their seat may no longer be at this house. My house is a wreck.
  • And Mrs. Organized? I even found myself digging through my handbag twice this week because I couldn’t find my keys at the bottom of my handbag. I’m falling apart.
  • I managed to do lots of laundry– or maybe TC did it while I napped on the couch. He was a little concerned that he didn’t have any clean underwear. I’m definitely wife of the year.
  • The mountain of clean laundry upstairs was finally folded thanks to my sympathetic husband who probably thought I’d burst into tears if I even started folding laundry. But now that it’s folded it’s just sitting there waiting to put away. And it’s been sitting there for a few days.
  • My dogs are on Benadryl constantly because the change in seasons (you know, from hot to less hot) has them itching up a storm. There is dog hair everywhere. And poor Boudreaux brings in all of the leaves stuck to his tail when he comes in from outside. Leaves and dog hair.
  • Even when Hudson is sick his spirits are still up and he just wants to be held and loved on, so you better believe I’m going to oblige.
  • Let’s not even discuss my eating habits and lack of physical activity other than the twice-a-week walk around the neighborhood.
  • This is not a pity party. I just want to let y’all know what’s going on and how big of a mess things seem to be right now. They’re okay and far form dire. But I’m a control freak and I’ve just had to let go.
  • And if my biggest problem right now is disorganization and a messy house, I know things are not that bad.

Okay, brain dump is over! Back to regularly scheduled blogging… or lack of blogging?

I’m not a big believer in astrology and that kind of stuff but it seems like a number of people (myself included) have just had a totally OFF time lately with things just going off the rails way more then usual.

Hope things calm down for you guys soon!

I feel like my past few weeks have been crazy too! I think it’s going around and we should all get free passes on having a messy house and piles of laundry everywhere!

  3. says

Hope your little guy is feeling better today!
I just did a brain dump yesterday! I have been struggling to keep it all together lately!! And I totally feel you on the laundry! I’m lucky if it even gets folded these days before it just gets worn again!

Hang in there! I did a similar post yesterday about how I’m trying to rebel against my OCD type-A ways and be less stressed about all of my to-do’s. It sounds like you’ve been forced into it, but maybe it’s a good thing! Hope little man is better soon 🙂

You have just described my life-especially with the laundry. I’m impressed that your’s is at least folded and waiting to be put away, all of my clean laundry seems to accumulate at the foot of our bed, then when it runs out I wash it and the whole vicious cycle starts over again.

  6. Jenny says

I am in the same boat…ughhh if my OCD isn’t in overdrive…
However I try to stay positive…laundry being backed up and dished to be done are far less trouble then say….being in a mine for 68 days.
BTW watched two hours of mine rescuing coverage instead of pending items…which also include finishing Part one of book club reading.

I could have written this! Funny you talk about TC doing laundry…Brent did a load when I was in AZ bc he said he didn’t have underwear. He did. He just likes certain pairs. I’m still SO behind. I HATE laundry.

  8. says

You’re just going through one of those cycles…it’s inevitable for everything to fall together sometimes, and it sucks when it happens. However, just keep positive and realize that when things go down, the only way to go from there is UP UP UP! : )

I honestly feel like my control over my house/errands/laundry/cooking, etc. goes through phases. And although I hate the phases were I feel like things are slipping, they are usually doing so because something more important is going on (such as a sick family member). And while it drives me CRAZY to even have the tiniest loss of control, sometimes you just have to go with the flow and clean up when it’s over. I hope Hudson feels better soon, but just do the minimum that needs to be done for those days and don’t beat yourself up over it. You’ll be back on top soon enough! Take care.

I did a blog post JUST like this yesterday. I just needed to vent! I got several phone calls asking if I was okay, and I foudn it weirdly annoying. Doesn’t everyone have a fussy baby and messy house every once in awhile? It doesn’t mean I am in the pits of depression! I just need to share what’s going on so I remember it’s not always perfect:) Thanks for posting this, because it makes me feel like I am definitely not alone!

I can totally symphathize with you! My last two weeks have been extremely hectic with several big work events plus JL things, and my control-freak nature is all out of whack. Maybe there’s something in the air?!?

  12. says

I really feel your pain! Our laundry situation is a joke… Just piles of clean and dirty clothes scattered in our room! And the rest of our house? I’m getting stressed out just thinking about it now. Must stick fingers in ear and sing “la, la, la”

  13. Amy Ross says

My husband and I just had to REfold all our laundry from the last two weeks, as it had been sitting on our floor not put away… which then means, we either wore again, requiring another washing of said article, or that it got scattered around the room while we were looking for another article to wear that hadn’t been put away! UGH!

I love the “honest/life isn’t always perfect posts.” They are very refreshing! Hope Hudson feels better soon, so you can get some rest!

It’s so hard when your child is sick… and nothing’s worse that knowing you can’t make it better for them. (Don’t worry about blogging!… your readers will still be here when Hudson is healthy and your home is organized again!)

It’s a side effect of being everything to everybody. Give yourself something – some time – a pedi or mani, read a book or go shopping. It helps every time when I get to a certain “breaking point”. Hang in there, God never gives us too much than we can handle!

I think I’m learning that life is just crazy in general. I don’t think it’s fair…I’d love for it to slow down so I can truly enjoy it! Hope the last half of this week goes better for you guys!

Glad to hear I’m not the only one giving their dog Benadryl . . . My 17 year old sheltie has chewed all the hair off his feet thanks to his allergy to grass. He looks pitiful 🙁

Oh it sure feels like we’re all having a crazy time lately! Hope Hudson feels better soon! Gavin is just getting over a 3-week long cold and then just yesterday he started sneezing again and had a new runny nose! Let the laundry go and concentrate on making little H feel better. (and you too!)

  19. says

I’m so sorry that this has happened to you all, and praying for better days.

But, thanks for the honesty! It’s good to know that I’m not the only SAHM with bad and good weeks. (or weekends).

Girl you are right on the money!! I feel like a total failure when my husband runs out of underwear. I am so happy that someone else goes through the same thing. I have two little ones Madison is 3 and Shawn Jr. will be two in November. I declare I feel like i’m losing my mind sometimes. Let me know when you go grocery shopping and get to the register and realize you don’t have your wallet, so you go to the car to get it while lugging TWO toddlers and then you realize it was at the bottom of your junkie purse. LOL! Kelly’s Korner did a post like this the other day and i love your honesty. Reminds me that we are all human.

I’m so sorry everything is a mess right now. I actually feel the same way! I’m traveling a lot for work and have SO much to do for work, that I’m not going to be at home much the next three weeks. And, when I am, I’m sleeping or spending time with my husband and the dogs. I’m super OCD too, but I told him this morning that the house cleaning is on hold…until 11/1. Ha! Oh well…life goes on.

  22. says

Oh dear! You really are having a time of it these days. But as my Great-Grandmere used to say, “This too shall pass.” Our lives are perfectly inperfect and it’s always refreshing to see a person whi can be honest about it. It sounds as rough as things have been, y’all are still rallying together, taking care of one another, which is most important. I hope Hudson feels better soon! It’s always hardest when your little one is under the weather. Thank the Lord for his lifted spirits as well! Take care and get some cool, fresh air when you can. It has amazing restorative qualities!

    Warmly,

    Elizabeth

When it rains, it pours, huh? A mother’s job is never done. I know it’s a lot to watch the house you’ve always kept so nicely appear to have fallen apart so quickly, but you’ll have everything back in due time. You’re fortunate to be able to stay home while your Hudson is under the weather.
I think everything and everyone seems to be a little “off” lately. I teach kindergarten and those kiddos have really been something lately. Whew!
*BTW I have 2 loads of laundry neatly laid out by the dryer. They haven’t been folded, but are laying in such a way that they don’t get wrinkled. Guess I could be doing that instead of typing here… 🙂

  24. says

You totally get a pass on laundry and organization when your child is sick! Being a mommy to a sick baby is like working 72 hours a day instead of the usual 24; and still, nothing ever seems to get done.

  25. Sarah says

From one OCD mom (my girls are now 16 and 13) to another: It gets better, I promise. You are totally entitled to days/weeks like the one you are having. Take care of yourself, and the rest will fall into place.

  26. Emily King says

I hate that you’re having a bad week! I can’t imagine you not being organized, I’m sure you’re just on a normal person’s level now. I frequently think about the post where you said you have never lost anything except for one t-shirt. I am fairly organized, but I lose things all the time. I have lost my fair share of phones, countless lip glosses, and if we could find all of the umbrellas I’ve ever lost no one would ever get wet again!

  27. Leah says

I’ve had to let my OCD go too. I recently heard a national radio talk show host say that when it comes to a clean home, moms of children under 5 have but one responsibility – to keep the health department at bay. It’s funny, but I found such comfort and perspective in that! And when the laundry is piled up and the baby has dog hair on her hands and I have yet to come up with something for dinner, I repeat it to myself and continue on!

  28. says

I feel ya! We had a tough couple weeks cleaning/laundry/organization-wise, but luckily we’re on the upswing now. Seems like it goes in phases for me. Your underwear comment about your husband was way too honest. I enjoyed it though, mostly because we’ve had that same scenario in the last few weeks.

  29. says

Oh my!1 I am going through the exact same symptoms, it is the air in Columbia. How can this be possible? My husband came home 2x’s this week for lunch and found ME in bed at NOON!! WTH! I am all about a 3ish 30 min catnap, but 12?? Let’s blame it on the weather… Don’t even get me started on the laundry and dog hair!!

Have you tried a different food for your dogs to help with the itching??? We have two Goldens and one has TERRIBLE allergies. She practically is scratching all day long, just ruining her skin. It is so sad. We tried a food (Nutro Natural) with glucosamine. It helps so much. It is expensive for dog food, but she immediately stopped itching!!

I just want to come to your house and hug you =( My house is in shambles right now. I have no idea where my purse is. E’s room and our room have piles of clothes laying around just waiting to be washes. And the sink has dirty dishes in it. From two days ago. And I can’t get off the couch to get any of it done!!

Guess this happens sometime. I think we should just leave the mess and fit in some girl time. I’m excited to be closer to you!

I have a 4 yr old, 2 yr old and 7 month old. I give the older two a chewable probiotic that my pediatrician told me about. It is called Bio Gaia (you can find it online and look up where it is sold.) I buy it at a locally owned pharmacy. I was doubtful, but the oldest two have been taking it for 1 yr. It has changed our life b/c they are so much healthier. If they do get sick now it tends to be much shorter. They sell it in drops you can put in a drink for little ones that can’t take a chewable.

Sometimes brain dumps are necessary.. and make you feel better after you “blog it out”! Hudson is #1 priority.. don’t worry about the laundry or the house! You’ll get it back to perfect one day. I’m in a similar situation – I’ve worried about my son not talking (he’s 21 months) so much that I changed pediatricians and finally have gotten a start on what could be wrong – we are going to see a Speech and Occupational Therapist for an evaluation. With all the worrying, my house is a wreck. In fact, it’s NEVER spotless like I want it to, but even worse since all I do is sit around an wonder what’s going on with my baby!!!! I’ve got two baskets full of laundry that hasn’t even been folded for over a week now. Hang in there girl! andreaneal.blogspot.com

That is a lot going on! Hang in there! I have been having serious health issues lately and it is so difficult to take care of my 8 month old when I feel so lousy. I keep telling myself it will get better and she is my #1 priority and also that it could be worse.

Wow. Seems like you have a lot on your plate. 🙁 I hope it gets a little easier. You know what they say, too–it’s cold season. Just keep your medicine cabinet stocked! 😉

By the way, I gave you a blog award. I know you don’t really post them, but I thought you deserved it anyway. ‘Cause I think your blog is sweet and fun. You can stop by my blog and see what it was if you’d like. 🙂

It’s okay girlie you can brain dump anytime you want! Nobody said life was always easy! I have three loads of laundry piled up on my dryer right now. You are such a beautiful person inside and out…and even though I don’t “know” you I feel like I do because you are so relatable. I enjoy reading your blog and all your brain dumps b/c I feel like I am not the only mom who is going through life and frazzled. All we can do is trust in the Lord to get us through each day and we will make it…but when you lay your head on your pillow each night you know you have a wonderful husband and beautiful baby to be thankful for 🙂

thank you. my laundry pile is large and not folded. i’m sitting and reading blogs all day because i’m tired and overwhelmed on where to get started. so glad i’m not the only one. here’s to knowing there is a new week starting! 🙂

Right with you girl. I just spilled it all out on the phone with my mom this morning and she was right in saying, “You just need a week at home with no interruptions to relax and regroup.” Fat chance, but I love her positivity and how she makes me say three things I’m happy about and looking forward to everytime I’m Debby Downer.

You should buy your self a Ergo something that every mom should have I could not live with out mine it’s so nice when my daughter is sick and just wants to be loved I am still able to hold her and get stuff done around the house.. Hope your little guy starts feeling better
