wednesday musings

1. I am in NYC at BlogHer. My sweet mom came to our house to take care of Hudson while Todd is at work every day that I’m away. Then my mom, Hudson, and I are going to visit some family the following week. August turned out to be a really busy month!

I can’t wait to share with you all of the fun things about BlogHer- as soon as I find out what they are. I already know the best part is hanging out with all the fun girls.

2. So I have a few thoughts about The Bachelorette. I’ve been a big Reality Steve fan for a while because I think he tells it like it is. But he obviously got it wrong for a long time on this season. Here are my thoughts on possible reasons:

1. ABC fed him false information and went along with that information in their previews to bring viewers in. And then they shocked us all when Ali ended up with Roberto. I guess their motive in doing this would be to bring him down and hurt his credibility.

2. ABC paid Reality Steve to write false spoilers and then gave him the final information 8 hours before the finale aired so he could still be the king of reality TV spoilers.

I read the spoilers when he first wrote them and they turned out to be wrong. And then last night, about 3 hours before the finale, I read Reality Steve and saw that he had changed his story because his “source got it wrong.”

And, really? I know none of you care about any of this! I did love Chris, but I think he’s too good to be the next bachelor. ABC always casts the worst women for The Bachelor and I’d hate to see Chris, who seems like a good guy, go on that show.

Did you watch the finale? What’d you think of the outcome? Did you read Reality Steve’s spoilers beforehand? Not sure if I’ll read him next season or not.

3. Tomorrow I’m going to post a blog sale for my IRL friend who is trying to sell some size 2 clothes. She’s adorable and her clothes are gorgeous. Get excited!

4. I’ve gotten a head start on the book club book since I’m going to be so busy over the next couple of weeks. Go here for more information if you don’t know already. It’s already a really great book and I can’t wait to discuss it with the book clubbers. So far, it looks like there are over 150 of you participating.

5. Anthropologie is having a sale. Not to be an enabler or anything, but I’m just sayin.

I’m a Reality Steve reader too! He’s usually right on, so I feel like he was just given some bad information this time. I’m kind of over the Bachelor/Bachelorette franchise….honestly, I feel like I can save myself lots of time by reading the spoilers ahead of time! Haha! : )

The tone of a comment is often misconstrued so please hear me say this in a nice one:
The clothes that you sold on your blog this week…why not give them away to a local salvation army, to a women’s shelter, or donate them to your church who surely can bless someone who is in TRUE need of clothing? I’m sure even if you asked around to your friends, they will know {or can find} someone who really NEEDS {not just wants} them. Instead, you took the approach of wanting to sell your used, high price items so that you can at least get some money back for what you spent for them. Perhaps this shows that you probably shouldn’t have bought those expensive purchases in the first place if you want to recoup some of the cost for them. Perhaps the next time you clean out your closet, or want to sell some of your articles of clothing for profit, you will think about how it’s better to give than to receive. I hope your friend – who you will be helping with the clothing blog sale tomorrow – will come to realize this as well.

i’m definitely a reality steve fan and i think i’ll continue to read him because i agree…i think he tells it like it is and calls abc out for only being interested in ratings. not that i’ll stop watching the bachelor/ette 🙂 can’t wait for the clothing sale!

I tried so hard not to read Reality Steve this year because I didn’t want to ruin it but, inevitably, I found out his prediction. I’m with your second guess-I think ABC paid him to write the false ones and then let him spill the truth at the end. Either way, I’m gonna try to avoid it next year! I don’t want to know! : ) And I do hope they don’t choose Chris as the next Bachelor. He’s too classy and nice!

  5. says

I have never heard of Reality Steve! Although if he isn’t getting the correct information, I don’t know that its worth it to start reading him next season.

You make a great point about Chris not being the next Bachelor. He does seem like a genuinely nice guy and too good for the ladies that ABC tends to cast. He seems like the type of person who wouldn’t even want to be cast as the next Bachelor anyway, but who knows!

  6. says

I really like Chris and was rooting for him! I hope he’s not the next Bachelor. I think this was a good experience for him to just get out there and get going again after the loss of his mother. Hopefully he’ll find him a nice new england gal and settle down with her.

  7. says

I think this time I relied on Reality Steve too much. I read that he knew the spoilers before it even aired so I never watched an episode. Now I’m mad that I missed all the drama. I may refrain from Reality Steve next time if I decide to watch (2 hours on a Monday night is a LOT to commit to!)

  8. says

I didn’t really watch this season of The Bachelorette but I got totally sucked in to the finale! I think Chris is a total sweetie and so cute. He does not need to be on The Bachelor, he’s way too good for it!

Super excited about the size 2 sale! Let’s be honst, I pretend I’m still a size 2. One day my friends, one day!

Also? Anthro sale? Enabler? Yes another reason you are so fantastic!

  9. AbsoluteMom says

Please (if you care to!) post a trip review of NYC, where you dined, any activities. I love NYC and am always interested in what other people find interesting. Have fun, and enjoy the later trip with your family.

  10. says

There was an E! special that aired and Reality Steve offered his insight and then on every showing after the original, ABC called E! and demanded that he be taken off. I think ABC are a bunch of crooks anyways because even though these people have signed up for the show, they still will do ANYTHING possible for ratings. And I agree, if Chris is smart he WON’T become the next Bachelor. He is far too good for it. And I think it would be better if they stopped reusing the people from the opposite seasons. Sorry for such a lengthy comment!

  11. says

Reality Steve was wrong and I have to wonder if ABC led him in the wrong direction. I didn’t notice that he chaged the outcome 3 hours before the final episode. Interesting!!

I’m just like you when it comes to your take on the Batchelorette/Batchelor show. I think Chris is a great catch and would hate to see him be the next batchlor and having to choose one of those crazy girls that they cast. I think he should hold off for a nice girl near his home town.

I can’t help but watch this show every season, but totally disagree with the whole process of choosing a spouse on a t.v. show. It is very entertaining though…

  12. says

I think Chris is way too classy to be the next Bachelor. He is so much more than just a pretty face. I’m actually quite surprised he has on the show in the first place.
Reality Steve is something that I just avoid altogether. I prefer to just watch the show and find out on my own. Where’s the fun in knowing what’s going to happen?

  13. says

I can’t wait to hear about BlogHer. I hadn’t even heard of it before this week when all these bloggers said they’ve gone. Sounds like a great girls week! 🙂

  14. says

    Have fun in NYC!

I read the Reality Steve spoilers this year– I am hooked! It was kind of strange that he knew most of the details of the season, but not the ending. I wonder if he is getting some mis-information from ABC? Or, if maybe they just kept things more under wraps this season. Chris seems like a nice guy and I hope he’s not the next Bachelor since the girls they cast are usually so full of drama.

  15. Ashlan says

I did read the spoilers from Reality Steve this year, and I’m not sure what to think about him. He is pretty full of himself, and thinks he is pretty awesome because of the information he gets. That part is annoying. I don’t think ABC paid him, because from what he says it seems like they are very upset with him. But that could be an act so who knows?! I don’ think I want to read spoilers for next season.

I loved this season of The Bachelorette. I was definitely a Chris fan (his hometown date had me bawling!), but I’m a huge Ali/Roberto fan now. I think the proposal was sooo sweet and I loved them on After the Final Rose. I REALLY REALLY hope they make it. They seem different than some of the other final couples, so I would love to see a happy ending for them.

As for Chris as the new Bachelor, I would definitely watch but I agree with you that they don’t cast the best girls. I’m interested to see if he wants to do it. Hmmmm, I guess we’ll see!

  16. Pam the Realtor says

I am a Reality Steve reader and really feel he just got wrong info on the ending. Everything else he reported throughout the season was spot on. The whole E show was another indicator how jacked up ABC really is and what length they will go to protect this show. I was just surprised E revised the show like they did to pacify ABC.

I was not a fan of Ali, so was very glad when she didn’t pick Chris. I felt like he was too good for her. Count me in on the group that hopes he chooses not to be the new Bachelor. Have you heard that Ali and Roberto both will be doing Dancing with the Stars? It’s still a rumor but I could see it happening.

I probably won’t be watching any more of the Bachelor shows, unless there is just nothing else better to do. ABC is just controlling to much of what is going on with their edits.

  17. says

I’ve never read anything by Reality Steve. I kind of hate to ruin the surprise. I’d also kind of hate it if people left unkind comments on my blog. 🙂 I thought your blog sale was clever. Wish I was small enough to wear one of your fun dresses!

  18. says

I hope Ali and Roberto work out. She kind of annoyed me at first (maybe it was all of her seemingly fake giggling?) but she won me over throughout the season. And Roberto is such a cutie! Loved Chris too. I see what you mean though about him being too good for the show.

  19. says

I usually read Reality Steve when I watch the Bachelor/ette, but this season I made a pact with a co-worker to not read it. With the way everything turned out, I’m glad I didn’t read it even though I was very tempted! It actually made the season a little bit more fun/interesting not knowing what was going to happen. I haven’t decided yet if I will read Reality Steve next time. It really just depends on who the bachelor is and how much I care to find out all the details.

I hope you have a great time at BlogHer!! 🙂

You had your mom, who is batteling melanoma, come and take care of your family so that you can go to New York to play?!?! Wow. That says a lot about you.

  23. A says

    Erin,

I’ve been lurking around your blog for awhile and think you are really great.
I think your obvious love for your family and devotion to your faith says a lot about you.
Trish, you know what says a lot about you? Leaving rude pointless posts on people’s blogs.

Of course, me calling her out on said blog says a lot about me.

  24. Natalie says

She sure did Trish. And then her mom locked herself out of their house while her baby was inside. Nice. Accidents happen, yes….but where was his momma? Oh yea…frolicking around New York.

  25. says

    Erin,

I had to come read the neg. comments as I follow you on Twitter and knew something was up. I have to say, it has been easy for me (in the past) to get caught up in ugly jealous thoughts when reading blogs. I am assuming many of these atrocious comments are a product of just that. However, I put myself in check for the following reasons: 1. I’ve been a reader long enough to know how you feel about ‘airing dirty laundry’ and not posting about unneccesary negative aspects of your life – you won’t want to read that years from now! Some bloggers do… some don’t. Just because you don’t blog about spats between you and TC doesn’t mean they don’t happen. 2. I (as a lot of us do) easily get envious and I need to realize that we’re all delt a different deck! Just because I can’t afford to wear expensive clothes & have fun vacations doesn’t mean that you and your husband haven’t worked hard to be able to afford such luxuries.

We all have strong convictions and beliefs and frankly, while its a shame that people try to bring others down, its part of reality and your proactive choices to keep blogging and not stoop to their level is the best thing to do!

Hope you had fun in NYC and I’m positive that your mom loved every second with H! What Grandma wouldn’t? 😉

Reading BEB from waaaaay up here in the PNW! 😉

  26. MRs D says

wow~ what’s that old saying..”If you don’t have anything nice to say, then don’t say anything…” goes something like that !!! I find it sad that other readers take time out of their days to write snide, snarky comments. These readers are obviously jealous & insecure, and some how feel better about themselves by committing character assasination on others !

Erin- I have been reading your blog & follow you on twitter. You seem to be a grounded, genuine & elegant lady. Keep smiling & ignore the uglies !

ps – if you want to follow me on twitter = MrsDtav

  27. says

I try not to read Reality Steve because it sort of ruins the show for me. I’m actually really glad he got it wrong, because I wanted her to end up with someone 🙂
